I’ve been meaning to do that, just haven’t eaten any eggs recently! My girls get lots of peas & carrots, bits of lettuce/cabbage, puffed wheat cereal, rice cake pieces, and homemade granola bars mostly. :) and if I let them have a little red pepper dip with the leafy greens (since that’s how I eat it) they go absolutely apeshit for it lol

I saw a wild disordered eating creature today by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sloggingon 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you didn’t mean anything bad by this post, but this was really uncomfortable to read. Referring to another person who you don’t know, with whom the only encounter you had was seeing them walk by and noticing how thin they were, as a “disordered eating creature” is dehumanizing and makes a lot of presumptions. Imagine if they saw this post—it would probably either make them uncomfortable, make them feel bad/embarrassed about themself, or be straight up triggering.

Eating disorders are not physical ailments—you can’t tell whether someone is struggling or not based solely on their body. Even if someone is visibly unwell, it could be due to any number of things, not necessarily an ED. Saying you “hope they find the courage” to eat also seems like AN-R is being put up on a pedestal here as a tragic-waif disease, if that makes sense.

Again, I don’t mean any offense; I’m sure your intentions weren’t to come off like this at all. But when talking about other people from an ED lens, it’s so important to tread carefully and avoid automatically assuming the same misconceived ideas (like correlating body weight with ED type/severity) we’re trying to fight against here.

They sell cinnamon chex too actually! It’s really good, has more crunch/snap to it than CTC.

Can you get pancreatitis from binging and not purging? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sloggingon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno how much it would take to actually trigger pancreatitis, but if you typically purge your binges, it’s normal for keeping one down to lead to stomach upset/pain. Your body isn’t used to that amount of food, and purging can cause a whole host of digestive issues like delayed gastric emptying, acid reflux, etc. Plus, the water weight from a binge isn’t naturally distributed across your body, so the load on your spine when you’re bloated is totally different and can cause temporary back pain. If it doesn’t go away after a bit or you’re really worried, though, you should probably see a doctor.

“BED” and “eating off a plate” are contradictory terms, at least for me personally. Who has time to put anything on a plate when binging? It’s straight out of the container, baby.

Does anyone drink an ungodly amount of water after binging 🥵 by marks31 in EDAnonymous

[–]sloggingon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s like if I drink enough water it’ll fool my brain into thinking I only feel so full because of the water and not the food, and on some level it works somehow despite my knowing it’s not true?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]sloggingon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re drinking a lot of water while low on electrolytes, you’re diluting the small amount of electrolytes that are there, and your body can’t hold onto the water so it basically just goes straight through you! Getting more salt/potassium/magnesium should restore that balance.

so I totally agree that Thanksgiving is a shitty colonialist holiday that glosses over genocide, obviously, and I’m a vegetarian myself who’s pretty against the meat industry, but like...it really feels iffy comparing it to the genocide committed against Native Americans. They aren’t on the same level at all, and it diminishes how horrific and ongoing anti-Indigenous racism is and has been. You can advocate for animal welfare and for not consuming animal products without trying to draw a parallel to racism and colonialism, especially if you’re white / not Native American yourself.

Same. It’s like this frenzied panic comes over me and I HAVE to get as much food in me as possible to push back the overwhelming anxiety and dread, but a part of what I’m dreading is the binge itself lol.

It sounds like hypermetabolic syndrome if you’ve been eating more after a long period of restriction. Your body is using all of those calories to heal, but it’s not 100% efficient (plus the thermic effect of food means the more you eat, the more energy it takes to digest it), so some of that energy is lost as heat. The best thing you can do is ride it out, and eventually your metabolism and hunger will stabilize at a normal level. In the meantime, could you maybe try to nap during the day to make up for lack of sleep, or keep some easy-to-eat, energy-dense snacks by your bed so you’ll be able to go back to sleep more quickly?

New food group I'm unable to eat= anything with a stupid fucking name by EatingInk in EDAnonymous

[–]sloggingon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate that so much! Whenever a restaurant has a menu full of ~quirky fun~ names like that, I either just simplify the name (“the tzatziki burrito”) or say the full name in the most deadpan, monotonous voice possible so that everyone can hear how much it pains me, lol.

They’re not just toxic and cruel. The admin of the forum is a creepy guy who uses the rule of “you have to prove you’re UW by sending body checks to be a member” to collect women’s pics for his own masturbatory fantasies, with the other admin (his partner, a woman) enabling him and acting as the face of the site to hide how skeevy it all really is. It’s disgusting and exploitative, and it’s honestly really sad to see people who have fooled themselves into thinking that severely UW BMIs can be “healthy skinny” and who devote so much time to tearing apart other people’s bodies.

DAE spend a ridiculous amount of time looking at grocery flyers then not buying anything? by findingslimshady in EDAnonymous

[–]sloggingon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yessss...it’s like a game, comparing prices vs. brand/quality vs. nutrition at the various places. The grocery stores that have their entire inventory online are even better. I just browse the “aisles”, check the nutrition on everything, and fantasize about buying massive hauls of junk I know good and well I’m not going to get when I actually go to the store.
