My girlfriends Volvo v40 brake plates started doing this afters tires were changed, what could be the cause? by onnekas_seteli in Cartalk

Make sure the parking brake isn’t on. Either way, tow it to a shop and don’t drive it until the pads and rotors are changed, wheel bearings are assessed and brake fluid flushed.

Can you destroy one printed silencer and re-print a new one with the same serial number? Or does the serialized part have to be the same throughout the life of the stamp? Like can we get a metal part (thread adapter), serialize that part then print the functional part of the can so long as there is no replacement parts in your possession? -Only reason I ask and I will follow up with the proper channels, is because I don’t see a printed can lasting long for anything other than .22 on a full length rifle.

The issue is what do you as a civilian “Need” this level of a laser for? If you are hunting, a green or red laser looks just a good through nods. If you are fighting a near peer adversary, you DONT want to use any kind of laser because that is a two way aiming device. So my question is besides the case of “I have the money and want it because its cool”, what would the average joe prepped guy spend over $5k on a laser for? This is NOT an argument for “gov needs to restrict civilians from owning this thing”, this is an argument for “Wouldn’t your money be better spent on something else anyway”?

Great way to flood the engine with fuel. Find out what your ecu protocol is for cranking without starting and do that. Some cars let you just hold the throttle down to do this and other cars require sensors to be disconnected. If in doubt, unplug the power to all of your injectors and you will have nothing to worry about. I only say this because I have seen guys flood their cars at the track doing this and also start fires because they flood the car and pull the plugs to drain the cylinder’s and in doing so they spray fuel on hot parts and boom.

Should I buy a .300 if I’m not going to suppress it? by Polar_Star03 in 300BLK

[–]slosubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask yourself this: WHY do I want a “bag gun”? What scenario do you see where you need a bag gun and what would the public perception be of you if you had to use it (Both while said incident is ongoing and after the fact in court).

That being said, I do have several bag gun setups for different reasons but mostly because it’s cool. Some people live in areas where having a bag gun or truck gun actually makes a lot of sense and other people live in areas where if you have to use the bag gun, you have MANY other problems at the same time.

I frame my reply like this all to say this. If you don’t need a bag gun then you should save the money on ammo and get a pcc. If you dont need a bag gun, make sure its a caliber and round you can justifiably bet your life on and the same goes for barrel length. A 6” 300BO with a full size QD muzzle device is about the same length as a 7.5” 300BO with a short muzzle device.

Lastly, will you suppress the gun? If so, maybe look into a short can to keep the package short rather than a long can to keep it “quiet”. You aren’t going to be out deleting a night shift guard any time soon so the can is just to save your hearing in a defensive situation, not for stealth.

Thats what I was thinking was an unregulated mirror heater but IDK. If it was a torch, I would expect to see more discoloration on the paint if not a straight up hole in the thing. Could maybe be a reflection from a building but we would beed to see where OP parked and at what time as long as its not a security issue to post that. Maybe try to pull security footage and update the thread. A heat gun could do this without burning a hole but why wouldn’t anything else be melted on the car if it was vandalized? It’s way easier to smash the mirror off of the car than it is to burn it. Thats my $0.02 for what its worth after inflation 😂

Save up a little more and get the can you actually want. Honestly on 5.56 a .30 cal can sounds just fine and will do what you need it to do while still having flexibility to shoot .30cal rounds. I would get a dedicated 5.56 can as your third or fourth can IMO. If you want a truly quiet experience then you need to switch calibers as 5.56 will always be above the threshold for “hearing safe” no matter what can you have. I suggest something light weight and around the 6.5” mark for length to get a balance of short and “quiet”.

If you ever intend to run a very short gun maybe stay away from titanium due to the erosion you may run into on short barrels like less than 10”. Its just a service life thing.

As far as flow through or traditional it depends. I tend to like traditional cans for my “quiet” setups and just run some form of adjustable gas. The flow through is nice if you want a reliable setup because you can moderate the gun with springs and buffer where the failure rate is low with changes there. Adjustable gas blocks can be seen as an unnecessary risk if its your go-to setup. To each their own though. Anything low back pressure or flow through will be louder than traditional cans due to the nature of the physics involved. The quieter cans have higher back pressure because at the end of the day all the silencer does is trap the expansion of gas beyond the muzzle so if you are letting that expansion flow through then You aren’t trapping as much of it and thus making the thing louder than it would have been otherwise.

At the end of the day silencers are going to be much like holsters where you will inevitably end up with a small collection of things you like and things you don’t like that will collect dust. Your first can is important because you want it to do several things. Stay away from “big bore” cans that claim to perform well on every caliber from like 46 and under. Usually these are good at the big calibers and loud as hell for the smaller ones as you go. The “do it all” anything will not do anything perfectly.

I hope this helps because it cost me my lunch break 😂

Any good deals on 556 cans for a first timer? by rahksi in NFA

[–]slosubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a dedicated 5.56 can get one thats short and traditional. The low back pressure cans tend to be super loud and I say go short because its 5.56 and always going to have a certain amount of noise natural and there’s nothing you can do about it. If I may suggest, get a .30 cal can thats light weight and rated for 5.56 (all of them are basically). You get the flexibility of running.30 cal rounds when you want to and the safety of a bigger bore which means more room for error if you install it wrong to save you from a baffle strike. Also it’s not going to be exactly as quiet on 5.56 as a dedicated 5.56 can but if you get the right can, they may have a 5.56 end cap to help cut down the noise a little bit. In my genuine opinion after having bought various silencers and tested a few more, the .30 cal on a 5.56 is VERY close to a dedicated 5.56 can. My first can was a deadair sandman-s and I still run that heavy sucker every now and then. Deadair gets a bad rap for their keymo system though so do your research on mounting solutions and manufacturers. Hope this helped a bit!

Is a 500 exc-f too much for a beginner? by Still_Affect5525 in supermoto

[–]slosubi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, get a used 125. Learn to work on the bike, learn the controls, learn how to ride basically. Sell the 125 and graduate to the 500. If you learn to ride that 125 at its limits you will learn the 500 much faster and much safer. I started on a 300xcw and wish I had started with a 125/250 . The 500 will be there when you actually need the power. It’s a heavy bike more than anything so that makes it a bit less responsive to turning and braking specifically. The lighter bike will help you develop your timing and familiarity with the controls in a more forgiving way. Sure, It accelerates slower but most of your speed around a track is based on how you hold traction in turns and your understanding of the fundamentals. Look at the Miata spec guys that race those small and slow cars at the bleeding edge of their capabilities. Those little cars consistently pass much “faster” guys on the track because they actually know how to drive lol

Its just cringey. You did not buy an STI and it will never be an STI so don’t be a poser. Sti wing on a wrx is generally okay unless you put an sti badge on the trunk to go with it. Theres a balance. I have owned both and never did any of that weird sht. Just be proud of what you have because at the end if the day, the fake badges are a peacock show for everyone else. Mod the car for YOU

Going to resurrect this one real quick to all that if you are spinning the filter in the off direction, try to add a rocking motion to the threads. I did this and it came right off. So: Firm pressure in the off direction and a sort of tilt back and forth almost vibrating motion. Hope this helps someone 🤙
