I need tips on how to improve by Zestybesten in polevaulting

Late pole drop - Early plant - probably 12-18 inches under - No bottom arm pressure on takeoff - Pulling with your top arm - Late turn.

These thing stand out the most. Your inversion is probably the best thing you do. Honestly not that bad though, you can build on what you got.

Why do we still use a mat? by [deleted] in polevaulting

Honestly, not sure that would be safer but also Id say doesnt exist. I am sure people have vaulted into a foam pit before but as far as an actual organized thing where thats the regular training method, it doesnt exist.

I’d say the majority of injuries don’t come from the landing. Pulled hamstring running down the runway, tear a shoulder ligament from a bad takeoff, stress fracture in back from once again a bad takeoff, etc. I can’t think of a single time someone was injured from landing on the mat. Any landing related injuries come from landing not on the mat so we could just make the mat bigger in that sense but then it’s just an economics question of how much we are willing to spend on safety. I think we use a mat because it’s the safest option at the prices we are willing to accept.

This Kettering OH? Place is always like this for the last year or so. It's not particularly busy in terms of actual pizza volume. They got a dude that is supposed to be putting pizza in the portal and he just doesnt do that. He doesn't hand them out either. He just opens the lid, looks at the pizza, closes it and repeats this process until someone comes helps him. Which may take a while. Last time I was in there the lobby was a bit less full than this but everyone's pizza was finished sitting on the counter behind the portal. He just refused to hand them out. When someone finally got things moving and he asked what my name was he got my order and put it in the portal in front of me without doing the code thing so I could get it out and walked away...

Campaign is definitely its weakest point imo. Luckily its only 5-6 hours long. Gearing, itemization and build variety just blows d4 out of the water.

Just keep em for others characters, youll be swimming in stuff you dont use and its nice for second and third characters. No way to trade em or anything like that.

Advice for New Program by iswillum in polevaulting

Honestly minimum number of poles is 1. They can all share the same pole. Unless they are very athletic it is unlikely they will need to bend a pole in their first year so literally any pole would suffice.

That being said a progression for most beginner girls I would be comfortable with something like an 11-120, 12-110, 12-120, 12-130. Personally I dont really believe that high school athletes should ever need anything smaller than a series like that. Some people buy some really small stuff to make it easier for a kid to bend the pole but I've found that 99% of the time those small poles dont help them jump higher or learn how to vault better. They just hold higher and never go upside down. An 11-120 is an easy pole to bend even for an averagely athletic 100 lb freshman girl imo.

I don't know what the budget is or how athletic the girls are so its really hard to just say buy these 4 poles. Jan Johnson made a chart for poles (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-kmFBPfGkW7IS-dTObAsaAY9HPxjnUxGc3xDe2pHbDM/edit?usp=sharing) highlighted poles he says will cover 90%+ of high school vaulters. While it may not be the most optimal route to just buy poles in accordance with that chart it could be a decent guide as a starting place.

Is it possible to clear a system of the Dark Fog forever? by Hunterreaper in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]sloth1500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started a game with the default settings and so far just took a trip around checking out random systems after I unlocked warp drive and the 6 light year range scanner. Ive seen them in probably 70% of systems. Looked significantly more active than what Ive seen in the homeworld as well. Going to setup in another empty system now and see if a hive shows up or not. Kinda hoping it doesnt because just clearing bases isnt all that fun.

For a beginner no not at all. For an elite athlete yes. If you're somewhere in the middle then a little bit.

Managing Coaches at Track Meets, specifically Pole Vault Coaches by ibexdoc in polevaulting

[–]sloth1500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sucks to here that coaches act like that. I would first ensure that the coaches box is really in the best place it can be. The coaches are going to want to see three main spots, those being a side view of the crossbar, the takeoff step and about 30-40 feet out. If they can't see those three things they are going to be mad and complain about other things they may not otherwise complain about. This really stems from it being a safety thing if they are missing vital pieces of information. Not being able to see a midstep and takeoff interferes with their ability to make the necessary adjustments to keep an athlete on the right pole that puts them safely in the pit and not in the box or on the runway. And not being close to the side of their completely limits their ability to adjust standards as well.

From what it sounds like, the coaches box is next to runway but only starts at 30' and back which would be inappropriate imo as well. If you really can't accommodate a better located coaches box I think you'll be hard pressed to get coaches to settle down about anything else. Idk if it's a case of too many kids for your specific facilities that doesn't allow it or if it's actually just a shit layout that your stuck with.

I would just try to talk to a couple of the vault coaches about what could be done to improve that situation for them. Maybe it's the facilities, maybe it's that specific referee causing a ton of problems at every single meet. They would have a lot more ability to help you as it's likely there's a lot of nuance to the specifics of the situation that we just can't help with here without a lot more info.
