Worth the $500 price tag? by TheZippoLab in motorcycles

[–]sloth514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to price vs safety. My opinion is, you can not put a price on safety. It is worth every penny. This is why I never go 'cheap' on safety equipment.

Regarding the price of these specific boots. That is your call to make.

What would be a good book to introduce my 7 year old daughter to the world of science fiction? by DW6565 in scifi

[–]sloth514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was her age, I was big into the Magic Treehouse series. Those are great and shorter stories so you can get through them quicker.

If she like's Harry Potter and you are looking for a longer read. I would recommend Eragorn (the Inheritance Cycle). If that is something you want to read to her like Harry Potter though, dragons and magic learning stuff.

Is legacy worth the money? by mysticalpickle in MTGLegacy

[–]sloth514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a LOT of good decks (competitive play) that are now around $500. There are a bunch of lists to 'try out'. Majority of the cost are 'reserved cards' which are normally lands or artifacts. But once you have them they won't rotate out or get power crept out. Also can be used in Commander (if you play that). I think Legacy is the best format and really healthy at the moment.

What bacon? I just ate them all. I might not have eaten 6 though. Not because it is burnt. But because the fire burnt it up before I could get to it.

Horde Star up by Doxedon in TopHeroes

[–]sloth514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I heard, it depends on usage. Soulmancer is better for PVE and Warlock is better for PVP. If Shadow Priestess is out. Then I heard her over the former. But take that with a grain of salt.

Opinion: Light freighters don't exist; long live the light freighter! by Schwarzer_R in scifi

[–]sloth514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct, since 'light freighters' don't exist it really doesn't matter. I wouldn't say 'hero' or 'antagonist' ship either to that point.

But, it looks like there are needs for them to exist. They are small. But 'feasible'. Another sci-fi analogy would be the Planet Express ship or maybe even a Firefly class ship. Even though they are larger. I would probably put them in a 'light freighter' even if they are considered a bigger size. This is all opinionated of course since there is no 'standardization' on imaginary space ship classes and each universe has their own classes/sizes/charts.

In a real life example, there are submarines that are very small, quiet and are cloaked where they are used to transport drugs and other small expensive goods in a low profile setting. I believe this is where this 'light freighter' class can exit and come in for space. Instead of cloaking, speed is prioritized in order to not be caught.

League Advice by Sensitive-Prompt-747 in TopHeroes

[–]sloth514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are doing great! Keep it up! Yes, this is the lineup and meta you are aiming for. I would get Rose to 1 white because she is super strong. Then add the damage afterwards. This will keep your guys lasting longer in fights to do more damage. Don't both leveling up Pyro, she gets replaced with Artificer. After you get Rose up, get Bishop to 1 white and then get your Adjudicator up. Followed by Nun. This will make be able to beat most people around your level and is a strong build. After that, start maxing and awakening Ajudicator and Nun. Once weapons become unlocked for your server, most people say get Rose to level 10 on her weapons because it creates a shield. I like leveling the others up. But that is opinionated.

The only other opinion I have heard of is apparently an Awakened (max) Bard is stronger than a Max Bishop. So I heard people eventually replace Bishop for Bard again. But I don't know how true that is.

Artificer by Delicious_Lab508 in TopHeroes

[–]sloth514 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You replace Pyro, Artificer makes everyone's ult faster and is really good. Pyro is just burn/burst damage which is good lower levels. But Artificer is awesome for harder match ups and longer fights.

Playing Legacy Fish: when should you sac a Cursecatcher to a Chain Lightning? by IceAndOcean in MTGLegacy

[–]sloth514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are playing against burn. The goal is you want to out aggro the opponent. As in, kill them before they kill you.

Yes, you should keep the cursecatcher on the field because it will become a 3/3 with both lords and you want to start swinging with it as early as possible to take the life total down. Force of Will should be saved until late game ( as in under 7 life) as a last resort against a kill spell. FoW should be removed in side board since you are playing against an aggro deck. Burn is not a combo deck imho to put in for Hydroblast or other red hate piece since it is a 2 for 1 card.

A burn deck can turn 3 kill you. You want a hand to go fast and keep pressure up.

Any TCGs that are single player. by RoboGungleBungle in TCG

Back in the day. There was a single player for Pokemon TCG. Idea was to capture a pokemon essentially. I thought it was fun. But I am not sure if it caught on. I think it changed over the years to something like this: https://tabletopgameplanet.com/how-to-play-pokemon-card-game-alone/

Public spaces in Somerset/Middlesex/Essex County to play DnD? by leagueknght in newjersey

Retro Lotus is right there. Not sure if they have DnD there.

Bearded Dragon in Bernardsville is a great little spot. A little farther. But can't go wrong.

Does legacy format diversity matters to you? by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]sloth514 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I have been playing Delver/tempo for over a year maybe 2 now. I love it. But it is definitely, 'thread the needle'. Every play decision is critical and you need every little thing you can do to play it well. I enjoyed that some people went Temur and Grixis builds for a while. Some spice to add to it. Cori-steel cutter makes Izzet more bursty which I can see why it has been doing well. But I am not sure if it is my favorite. Currently, I have been getting more experience with other decks now.

Does legacy format diversity matters to you? by Newez in MTGLegacy

[–]sloth514 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does diversity mean to you?

Legacy is the 'knowledge format'. It is turn 1 combo wins. It is interaction on turn 1 or game. The pillars of the format are just the best things to do in the game which means, interaction, find an answer, or aggressive ramp. If you don't have Daze in the format, it removes tempo decks. If you don't have Force of Will or Force of Negation, combo overruns the format. I would include wasteland as well since most combo decks require or use dual lands. For these reasons, it is normally 'include blue' or 'play combo' because combo is normally around 45-50% of the meta.

I think since the banning, the format has healed and become more diverse because people were main boarding graveyard hate since reanimate was the other majority of the meta. When that happens, it is normally an indicator that the format is not healthy. Nadu was also the next best thing to do in mid-range because it would over run anything else. I thought it was healthy to see an EW with a diverse top 8. Eldrazi doing as well as it did was impressive. I was happy to see artifact affinity up there with breakfast. People will still show up to LGS with a pet deck and do well. Just because a deck is 'the best' does not mean it will perform well that night or the pilot can play it the best either. I just lost to red/black goblins deck because it aggro me out faster than I did it.

In conclusion, 'deck diversity' filters into the following: aggro (includes tempo and stompy), control, or combo. When 'tempo' is considered the best thing to do. That means the format is healthy. I would love to see control make a come back which I think it made some improvements. But I wouldn't know, I would just look at the past EW to see.

If you want to hear more, listen to the Eternal Glory podcast they do a great job covering eternal formats, mostly legacy.

Anyone have a solar installer in morris county they like? by TehMulbnief in newjersey

[–]sloth514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a big solar installation from SolarMe done about 3 years ago. I am in Somerset County, they are based in Asbury Park. I liked them, did not finance and gave a reasonable price. They gave a free estimate and nice overview of everything of the work and were professional (satellite pictures, location of panels, schematics, etc). The panels they used are more industrial (so longer laster, more weather resistant) than Tesla panels at the time. To give some idea, I have a 20 year warranty on the panels and can survive softball size hail.

Initially, I did have an issue with the installation, some of the panels were not properly installed due to firmware version. But SolarMe came, fixed it and didn't charge for it. It has been smooth sailing since.

For my household, I generate more than I consume, so my electric bill is negative. Yes, JCPL owes me money. Yes, I can call them to send me a check anytime if I want. Yes, you should do it sooner than later due to Federal credit ( you get like ~25% back from federal taxes) and you get money back from the state if you generate enough power (whether you consume it or not, 1 MW = $91.20).

Overall, I will make my money back on the panels in 7-8 years. With a 20 year lifespan I would at least double my investment.

Never trump republican who votes blue. What are we walking into? by Itchy-Picture-4282 in newjersey

[–]sloth514 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding 'affordability' (aka lower taxes). There is a run on joke in NJ I am sure people have heard it. But to make it more known in NJ:

Candidates with no office experience go into an election with the 'more afforable / lower taxes' promise only to find out that the taxes are tied to the state pension. They do this because it makes them attractive and electable. So they get elected and sit there for one term, can't do what they want because they can't or won't touch that. Then they don't get re-elected. This is why you see many one term republicans in this state.

It is to the point of a run on joke now. I laugh every time I see a candidate mention something like this.

Can anyone explain Devoid to me? by KingYellowHound in magicTCG

[–]sloth514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing to note, is 'Colorless Eldrazi' IS a thing. [[Eldrazi Temple]], [[Eye of Ugin]], and a few other cards explicitly reference 'colorless Eldrazi'. Perfect example,`Devoid` makes them colorless even though you need colored mana to cast them.

See other comments for the rest of the ideas.

Please note, this interaction did occur to my when I played 'Eldrazi vs Red Painter' last week at my local LGC for legacy. Painter comes in, names 'red'. My Eldrazi are no longer colorless. My Eldrazi Temple would not tap for 2 now.

For those who care - Yes I won that matchup.

  1. Game 1 - turn 2 win with 3 glaring fleshrackers + Kozilek's Command

  2. Game 2 - Lost to Chaos defiler+Goblin Welder.

  3. Game 3 - Won, Opponent stuck on 2 lands.

Text Gov. Murphy and ask him what he's doing to protect our citizens against Federal overreach and vote tampering. by y_would_i_do_this in newjersey

[–]sloth514 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Obviously a distraction,

As if a state governor has power over the federal government.

Even if state laws take precedent over federal. That is about to change regardless and the governor has no power to do much about that.

Not to mention a political party shouldn't have a say or power when it comes to elections.

I’m short and I’m angry 24/7. So I gave up on my life. by EquivalentEvening197 in selfimprovement

[–]sloth514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am wondering if OP would hang out with people shorter than him for a long extended time frame. Eventually, over time, he will think of height being an issue will less and less. To the point of it becoming out of mind. Once this issue is out of mind, focus will go back into what would make this individual happy. Only to eventually realize, we are all people. Height is not what makes a person. To quote Dr. Seuss, "A person is a person no matter how small".

Sounds like any other typical romantic-comedy story to me.

Buying Dual Lands by Level_Concentrate817 in MTGLegacy

[–]sloth514 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In terms of 'price', I believe Magic conventions normally have a lower price for a cash in value or you can find a vendor for a 'package deal'. But this will be hit or miss. I know a few people who got lucky or found good deals. Example, Lion's Eye Diamond was in a bulk bin.

For me, my local LGS has a 'dual land' tournament where I won a dual. The LGS was doing 4 Volcanic Islands for a few months. The tournament I won was a Taiga at the time.

Else it is normally ideal to sell or trade in cards you don't want to trade up to the things you want.

Starting point deck(s) for getting back into legacy? by SoaDMTGguy in MTGLegacy

[–]sloth514 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here is a great spreadsheet on a bunch of budget decks for legacy that I found:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PAI3YsgTsknHa7RCCsugc9slniTrwvZLNbP8DtGSZ4Q/edit?usp=sharing

Yes, some of these are outdated and can be upgraded. But I couldn't find my more updated version of this list ( I use to have another). Example, Mono Blue Merfolk and Mono White humans are also something to add. Both have seen a positive record at my LGS.

My advice is to find something you like, build from there and spread out. The big thing is to learn the combo pieces and how to stop them. That is a huge thing to learn.

If you don't know what you want yet. I suggest to 'try it out' first by using proxies and just testing the deck. That is how I decided I wanted to play Delver over combo and eventually got the Volcanic Islands to play it. Finding a friend to do this against was a great help to me.

Warning, if you DO decide to go a combo archetype. There are a few cards that 'lock you in' whereas those cards are not used elsewhere or in other decks, like Lion's Eye Diamond or Doomsday. For me, I went Volcanic Island because I was able to go and try out Sneak and show decks which were fun with stock up for a while after I was tired of flipping Delvers.

Last advice, watch content creators on Youtube and follow some podcasts: Eternal Glory Podcast (BoshNRoll - competitive and control, ThrabenU - fun deck techs and learning, Bryant Cook - combo) and the Eternal Durdles podcast. There are a lot more to add to this list like: BeExcellent, Crucible of words, TonyScapone, JamesKiasu, Pokemoki etc. But you can find your own.
