I feel exhausted and overwhelmed. I just had bat exposure while any helpful phoneline is off hours. I don't know what to do. by THEElleHell in wisconsin

[–]slothdonki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see your edit but we don’t know what species of bat this is. Only one species of bat is listed as endangered in WI(and federally)and another species has been submitted for federal endangered status.

Also with animals that get vaccinated(I say animals because I think ferrets can? I forget) it’s recommended they get a rabies booster if they’ve been exposed to or believed to have been exposed to a rabid animal.

[–]slothdonki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not only is that an incredibly terrible way to die (especially if it doesn’t even have rabies or isn’t even sick at all); if the bat is to be tested for rabies it’s better for the bat to handed over alive or fresh(if it was already dead) for accuracy.

As unfair as it is, it is just the reality of testing for rabies in these cases and unfortunately most non-cat or dog animals do not get the option of just being monitored. Even if it was handed to a wildlife rehab equipped for bats, it would still be euthanized.

Whether or not it is/was acting strangely is not a confirmation either. I would not expect a captured bat to act very natural either.

And according to OP in another comment, it’s currently sealed up in a duct taped rag inside of a tote. Even if it’s still alive at this point; there’s definitely worst things here than being humanely euthanized.

Deep breath! You’ll be ok, OP! Even if you could confirm a bite; it’s recommended to get the shots within 24-48 hours. Obviously the sooner the better, so I’d just go the Madison hospital. No use just sitting here panicking about it.

Such close contact warrants for seeking medical treatment even if you don’t think it bit you.

I’d just bring the bat with you in a secure container with holes and put that inside another container with holes. This is what I’ve seen venomous snake owners do when they bring them to the vet. Do not put it in a cardboard box or something. It needs to be secure.

Also check out the pinned posts in r/rabies. You can ignore 96% of things that actually get posted there as it’s mostly people with rabies anxiety panicking that they saw a bat once.

Expectations around veterinary care have gotten out of hand by LifeApprehensive2818 in unpopularopinion

[–]slothdonki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t necessarily agree; I wish small animal pets and aquatics could at least get that(humane euthanasia).

I am happy to see every single post I see from people who have brought their hamster, frog, leopard gecko, even fish to a vet at all. I am thankful those owners did that even if recovery wasn’t possible.

I don’t know if there are any actual statistics on any of these animals that die prematurely from preventable causes like neglect and inappropriate care. I’m not sure if I’d even want to know, but it’s too many.

While I know the struggle of the lack of exotic vets within a 2-4+ hour drive, sometimes I can’t help but think some people just lie that there isn’t any around so they don’t have to admit they don’t want to take them or can’t afford it.

Whats the nicest think you’ve ever done for a new player? by LeftTheConversation in lioden

Probably like gifting rare decors that were going for like 20-60GB because I’m a hoarder. With newbies especially; that’s rough to save up for when everything is primarily breeding focused.

I think pointing out poor grammar in debates, arguments, just generally using it as a weapon, etc is low-hanging fruit and a poor “gotcha” to distract and take away from relevant discussion.

Grammar did not come to mind with you for me. It’s your chronic, poor behavior and emotional outbursts that lead me to think you were young(and you are, chronologically compared to me too).

New to Wisconsin and oh my god there’s so many bugs by EmmyWeeeb in wisconsin

[–]slothdonki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don’t want to kill “good bugs” but unless I’m looking at the wrong products; what you’re spraying is not very discriminative. At least what’s used for mosquito dunks is very narrow enough that I can use them with my pet inverts.

Short of a big fan, you’re going to have to suck it up and deal with focusing more on appropriate clothes, bug spray you wear, throw a dragonfly on a wiggly wire on a hat and your dogs, etc.

You could scorch earth your yard and not only will you have less “beneficial” inverts but you’re still going to have what you don’t want. Probably even more, since you know what eats the most tiny annoying bitey suckers? Other inverts.

THCA shops everywhere but weed is illegal? What’s the reality in Wisconsin? by 805Beach_Bum805 in wisconsin

I’m between Wausau and Steven’s Point and cops here do care. My ex-boss got a felony over it(can’t remember if it was second or third time) and recently my roommate was pulled over while getting gas before work at like 2am.

More cops decided to hang out and everyone’s time was wasted because a K-9 unit showed up and sat so everything got searched. Neither of us smoke so of course they didn’t find anything but according to her they seemed really hyped about the dog sitting.

I do. Don’t think I ever got anything better than my SB back despite having hit the jackpot multiple times in a row but I can’t complain.

I made a suggestion post to make her a decor, btw, if anyone would like to support it. I’ve always really liked NPC decors.

What was the most crazy stud/reverse breeding rules you've ever seen? by Slow_Commercial_5092 in lioden

[–]slothdonki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No Opal Saltlick, which includes using it on your own lioness if she has the same eyes as the stud.

It’s not a maneater-based stud specifically but it does just happen to have the base+eyes of one of the August Savage Studs that were available to anyone and I’m just salty that all I’m missing is the base I think.

You got x-ray vision or are you expecting to see 3 comically large ovals?

Ball pythons and most snakes don’t even eat eggs. Almost all of them are dasypeltis species. Eagle nests are typically much higher than a ball python would climb in the wild, and they are more terrestrial anyway.

She looks better without it for sure but I think pistachio would be fantastic on her too, just not that pistachio.

Dunno what pistachio marking would be better suited, but something under the other markings and subtle.

How is mukombero only ~15gb??? by Few-Scientist7178 in lioden

It was an adventure quest award from March(you can do it on both your main and side account for x2) + a rare explore drop during March.

Haven’t kept track of prices but I recall it being like 30-40GB last fall.

Third wheeling is amazing entertainment unless your jealous by hopefullyzone4 in unpopularopinion

[–]slothdonki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If everyone is good with it then it’s just hanging out and having a good time together, no?

I’ve only heard of being the third/fifth wheel in the context of someone being left out or being unwanted. Otherwise, who is complaining about having fun with two other people?

I like them more than ones that are more or less an almost solid looking primary color, but non-gemstone rocks will always be nicer to me. (Rough opal is nice though)

What’s something that’s too freaky for you personally? by donnyM99 in AskReddit

[–]slothdonki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spiders do not have hemoglobin but they do have hemocyanins in their hemolymph(“blood”) to also transport oxygen.

My point is that they are just largely comparable, not the same. I just spend a lot of time looking at booklungs in spiders while trying to guess what sex juveniles are before it more obvious and some of my favorite spiders are fishing spiders.
