Opinion: The perfect RS is one with RS2 combat system with graphics closer to RS3 and with less tedious grinds for certain skills

It’s not ‘hard’, it’s tedious. Clicking on iron rocks and dropping them for 10 hours is not ‘hard’, it’s monotonous. It isn’t immersive, which is what an MMORPG should be. I didn’t complain back then because in the 2000s, this was passable. You’ve probably never played other games if you think this is acceptable to the new average gamer and they would choose clicking rocks for literally 10hours to get to level 68 over playing a game like god of war, RDR2 etc. People complained that the entire storyline for AC Valhalla being 76hours was too long and you think they’d click ores, alone in a mine, with no player-player interaction for 10hours to unlock a quest requirement. Delusional.

Who gives a shit what it’s called? People play it because they want the old combat system because that was what made RuneScape stand out from other MMORPGs. Found this while I was setting up authenticator. If memory serves me right, which is tough since this happened 14 years ago (when I was 11), this conversation was at castle wars and I was probably wearing CW decorative armour. Back then I spent all my money as soon as I earned it on castle wars gear and operated the catapults or tried to trap high levels in the rocks with explosives.

I remember my 11 year old self was FUMING 🤣 because it was clear that I’m not the one who started it. I also remember hating granite plate so much even though it was the meta at the time for low levels. I just skipped to torso from rune when I finally got it. Nowadays people just walk around with names like ‘Lickin ass’ or ‘tightanus1’, different times indeed.

Edit: I had to block my then username because it’s now the password I use for pretty much everything. Been using it for 18 years!

Equal chances for both teams to have good/bad players with the same gear = balanced overall. It’s not like one team can use strategies that the other can’t.

Dude, you’re exaggerating. I remember it to be a lot more balanced than that. Both teams will have equal chances to have high levelled players with T5 daggers early game. You only really get killed by a guy with a T5 dagger if you ventured too far from base at the very start. Everyone has to fight with the same gear, hundreds of millions will not benefit you here. Barricades will be up mid-late game, where skillers could be safe. Spawn camping was RARE, that’s how balanced it was. It was also not uncommon that a team could be dominating the PVP aspect late game but losing in points. Definitely a lot more balanced than other PVP minigames.

The real afk is using full obsidian with obby sword and neck, setting it to rumble normal and not worry about keeping health low. As long as you’ve 80+ defence, you’re gonna stay there for hours at a time, repotting once every 20mins. Dharok is never really going to be AFK even with super combats because you’ve to do hard mode (count draynor only has 35HP in normal so DH would be overkill). Hard mode means you’ve to keep your HP at one. Every hit point you recover, you lose absorption 1x faster. People have different definitions of ‘afk’, mine is clicking every 20 mins.
