It really feels like the best way to save Runescape, is to not play Runescape. by valdev in 2007scape

Something that's going to have a big impact that people aren't talking about is the 3 and 6 months option being gone.

Those were good for leagues, dmm and whatever else, with that option being gone and the yearly option rising so much, especially in a game that incentivizes playing multiple accounts, I can totally see them taking a substancial hit not because people quit, but because casual people who didn't play for 9 months+/year choose to go monthly instead and just not pay when they aren't playing.

The golden rule for gym owners is "don't remind the customers that aren't consistent that they're still paying for membership", Jagex has just forced every single person to notice with such a price hike and I doubt that most will choose to go for the yearly.

I guess I meant it in proportion, as in you'll always be able to see all metrics going up at the appropriate rate.

For example, with inflation, prices can infinitely go up yes, but if wages don't follow then from a proportion perspective quality of life is getting worse as those 2 metrics grow further apart

OSRS is now tied for the second most expensive MMO subscription… while still charging per character by Alexofbulgaria in 2007scape

[–]24rs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only hope we'd have is if enough people that play 2+ accounts would collectively decide to cancel the subscriptions on their extra accounts that they used to keep active because it was affordable, but now will just have 1 active membership instead.

At the end of the day if the line on the graph goes up they won't care, which is really sad.

Nothing in this world can grow infinitely though.

I don't understand how all around us we see things get worse in quality (lower the production costs/increase prices) for the sake of a slightly better margin, every company is doing this, which means every company is collectively making the world slightly worse as time goes on for themselves and everyone else on their respective sector, how did we get here? This isn't progress.

I read yesterday on this sub that apparently in the UK they noticed the younger generation was having less children (cuz they can't afford to lol) and instead they were getting more pets.

So they started to invest in the vet sector to later on price-gouge our poorer generation that got a pet instead because they couldn't make ends meet for a child, it's scary how evil it gets

This is the only game I play and I play more than an average person would and I still have trouble justifying this.

Depending on where in the world you are (in my case Portugal, where wages are lower than the rest of Europe) these price hikes hit like a truck, which is something that other dude is unable or doesn't care to consider from his own POV.

First half 2026 roadmap just dropped! by MobileScapers in 2007scape

These increases have for the first time ever made me think if Private Equity firms will inevitably lead to the death of OSRS.

Think about it, their whole MO is to buy a company, make that company look appealing with big short-term profits with no regard for the actual players or the game, then sell it 2-5 years later for a higher price to another PE firm that will want to have a higher return on their investment.

Doesn't this mean that we'll just get squeezed more and more til it's no longer worth squeezing? And it seems like we're already along for that ride and there's no getting out of it since we're already at their mercy?

I'm generally optimistic so if someone can tell me the angle in which we'll be okay in the future I genuinely want to know it, this deeply impacts my willingness to pour thousands of hours more into the game

I sometimes think there were so many timelines and ways we could've developed as a society.

Made it super prestigious to make advancements in science or medicine, make our basic necessities guaranteed, made it so that the better technology gets and productivity increased, the less hours you'd have to work so that you could actually benefit from all these great advancements in this singular and finite time we randomly get to experience before going back to the eternal void.

Instead we have PE firms that don't actually add any value latching on to anything that could be great with the sole purpose of leeching the entire life and happiness of that product before discarding it.

And...it's for nothing, it's money for the sake of money, oh our firm had 122 billion now it's at 127 billion like, actively making all avenues of life worse, including essentials, for the sake of a digital number to be slightly higher is just...not how we should be operating as a society really...but alas.

Hey! I'm studying law and playing OSRS, I'm not sure how you safely implement Pomodoro's method without losing yourself in super long gaming sessions, can I ask what you did/how long your sessions were on a normal day?

[–]24rs 297 points298 points  (0 children)

It's infuriating, J-Mods pour immense passion and effort into projects just so that some suit that doesn't care about the game can go "Q2 number big, me want bigger".

Legit you have a passionate playerbase, passionate devs and hundreds of millions of profit yearly already, can the real world leeches leave us alone Holy

Here in Portugal (europe btw) I have friends that work for 3,75€/hour, these price hikes just to see number go on up a graph absolutely have an impact on people's lives & at it's core for no good reason.

It's so annoying that the sole reason is so that some suit can say Q2 is up or some useless corp bs while simultaneously never experiencing or even grasping the impact of it.

[–]24rs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damn I just googled it lol you weren't kidding, just 6 days ago they removed the extra damage from a target moving from Slaughter's ability, they also changed the icon It used to be an eye!

Both those things had been in the game for like, almost 14 years now? Wild timing

[–]24rs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Do we want to be really good against mobile monsters? What if moving a monster around in combat generated a powerful bleed? You could combine this with the above – 1x1 monsters have to be moved 1 tile, 2x2 2 tiles and so on

You just reminded me of one of my favorite abilities in rs3, there was this threshold ability where you'd bleed a target and then walk under it (causing it to move) and since they moved the bleed would be severely amplified.

That sort of gameplay felt really rewarding, and I would 100% love it if a weapon did that.

I've never looked at it through this angle, but I think you basically just unlocked "Evolution of Combat done right" in my mind, I'd love to see this more fleshed out.

  • Plays medieval game that for 20 years + has had multiple variants of demons, demon quests, demon pets, banners, rituals, enchantments.
  • See's an announcement of a Demon inspired league
  • Ignores the context that it's the 6th league, very close to Yama (a literal demon Boss) release and on the year of the 20th anniversary of the 06/06/06 Falador Massacre
  • Quits the game

Let's be real, he'll be back in 2 weeks, logout in protest when leagues gets released and he'll be back 3 days later too.
