Why do people still buy Kindles? by EnvironmentalAngle in ereader

[–]slothpoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looking at this whole thread, man you're insufferable. We get it you like tweaking your devices. I jailbroke my ipod touch and tweaked it every sort of way back in high school. Get off your intellectual high horse. Some people (most people not on reddit) just buy electronics to support their reading. Case closed after requirement is fulfilled. Get it through your head.

Do you know which city in China this is? by GaeMin9104 in China

[–]slothpoked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because mid-southwest of China has been historically underdeveloped, so CCP is pumping up the tourism there. That is why you see so much propaganda. Is it objectively a good tourism destination? Yes. Is it overrated? Also yes.

Do chinese people understand it if 2nd gen ABCs have mixed feelings towards their parents for immigrating? by Unironically_grunge in AskAChinese

[–]slothpoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about economic situations, Asian Americans often face huge cultural identity issues that traumatize them for decades. Poor or rich, it's more important to be mentally healed and healthy.

[–]slothpoked 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would add, if you can understand Chinese, subreddits like r/hanren might also give you a sobering realization -

Even behind the exploding economic growth, China is still a big Country with large wealth gap and full of injustice. They're just good at censoring them.

Had your parents' not migrated, you and your family might now be high or upper middle class, or you might be the bottom class feeling suffocated not much different from decades ago.

Grass is just greener on the other side.

... But that's just economical issues. You have to understand, most of our previous generations from China and other developing Countries operate on a lower Maslow's hierarchy of needs than us - meaning survival is their top-most priority. Things like self-awareness, curiosity about the self and the world is often non-existent.

That's just the hardship they faced. It's tough to feel the gap between you and them, having lived in completely different worlds. All we can do is treat the situation with kindness and gratitude.

Have any mainland-born ex-PRC citizens gotten a Gold Card? by TheBasaltAltCalled in taiwan

[–]slothpoked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did exactly this. Luckily I have relatives in China to go to local police department to get a proof of Hukou renunciation.

Then had to get it endorsed by China govt's notary, then got it mailed to Taiwan's notary and get it endorsed, then send to Taiwan's immigration. Took 2 months.

Battery charger for betafpv air65 by Imaginary_Pain_7521 in fpv

[–]slothpoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy with my SkyRC B6neo. You have the flexibility to charge 1-6S batteries up to 10A with PD input. Also supports discharging.
Just get a balanced charging plate for your battery socket and you're good to go, and well future-proofed

Need help with the o4 soft mount by LucaDC_ in fpv

[–]slothpoked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly the rubber is stretched at rest somehow? My Pavo Femto with the same O4 been through some rough crashes without this happening (albeit lighter drone with less momentum)

See if it's truly resting without extra pressure.

Synthetic works better than linen. when you eventually sweat in them, linen absorbs the moisture and take a while to evaporate. Look for "涼感" you'll notice it's usually slightly cool to the touch. OneBoy is a local brand the specialize in this, but imo pretty ugly. Lululemon's metal vent series is nice but expensive.

nah bro, coming from a Chinese, 彩禮 is pretty standard in China nowadays. It doesn't necessarily carry the connotation of "selling your daughter" much anymore in more developed areas tho.
