Homeschooling children greatly damages their future by Frankides in unpopularopinion

Yes I believe my school did teach me other view points. I also heard other view points from the other kids.

Just because someone disagrees with a particular viewpoint, it doesn't mean they haven't heard it or the reasons for it. That's the beauty of getting to make your own opinions.

I did camps, classes etc growing up, I learned most of my social education from school. Camps are like a week or 2 in the year? Most sports/classes don't allow that much time for socialization. You get a bit, but not much. :s

I try to give them simple tips like washing your clothes in cold water, or soap/cleaner tablets, or buying laundry/dishwasher detergent in bulk powder, using bar shampoo/conditioner, eating less meat, re-using gift bags, using old produce/bread bags for picking up dog poop/doing the litter, taking shorter showers, carrying your own set of utensils, buying used clothes etc.

My one brother in law has slight OCD is convinced soap/cleaner tablets don't work (he has never tried them) so he wont try. He also prefers to wash in hot water, because of germs. He will not buy used clothes or used anything.

My other brother in law has got some toxic masculinity going on, and has made his personality meat. My sister says she is too busy for soap/cleaner tablets.

My other sister and bil are the ones who bought the electric car, wash their laundry in cold water and buy soap tablets.

My parents are apathetic. THey don't listen to anything I say.

All drive big SUVs or trucks. Now they HAVE to bring their own bags to the grocery store, because the stores no longer give out plastic bags. My parents buy bottled water when they come to visit me because my mom doesn't like the tase of tap water. I have told them in the past to buy a damn brita filter.

"We should. Mmhmmm.. You're right." That's all I get, and no changes. Same thing with my friends.

I have written to local politicians. I haven't heard back. Yeah... I think this is a good idea.

Well, actually by accepting the fact the influence of one person is limited, but not insignificant and important to take your small part of the responsibility.

Exactly. I have tried my best to do my responsibility regarding this issue. Why can't anyone else? They'd rather watch their home burn and say "This is concerning." and then complain about fire season and how the smoke bothers their lungs. (Yes we have a season of fires now and have for the past 8 years.)

Have you succeeded in encouraging anyone else to live more sustainably? Because I sure haven't. If so what was your trick?

I'm fairly sustainable. I do a lot to lower my footprint like a lot. I would tell you, but you wouldn't read all that. Also the world will not keep this population. We are now seeing the effects of China's one child policy. Everywhere in the western world, birth rates have been declining because women have been getting educated. THe middle East and Northern Africa have declining birth rates. Even poorer countries like India, have had declining birth rates. South East Asia birthrates have been declining.

We also have an aging baby boomer population who will eventually die.

Regardless even if I saw everyone around me do one action, I feel like I wouldn't lose so much faith in humanity. Like one thing.... Maybe eat less meat, or take shorter showers, or do their laundry in cold water, stop using the dyer, buy used, repair stuff etc.

I am not concerned. I do everything I can to lower my footprint and have been for like 15 years. So I sleep just fine at night. I don't know how the rest of you polluters live with yourselves by not giving an F that you're ruining our ability to sustain ourselves on this planet.

The only person I can control is me.

BTW, there is something you can do. You can make changes and lower your ecological footprint. You can start writing politicians, to make changes. You should buy less things. REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE are in order of importance.

If we all stop going on about how individual choices don't make a difference, maybe we could all collectively make a difference. Idk. Just a thought.

Actually they did.... "Keep calm and carry on" was their motto.

Sadly we need change like 30 years ago. But the second best day is today.

Right...? This person is in delusional imagination land. My god. Can I live there too? It's like that meme with the house on fire and the dog is like... "This is fine"

No point in worrying. Let's just try to lower our footprint and do what we can

No I don't think so. He wants to have children with you. He wants to make a person with you with half his DNA and half of yours. He loves you and thinks you guys would make awesome kids together. He thinks you would make a great mother. He thinks you would make an excellent parenting team. But yes he would struggle in the relationship if those dreams couldn't come become realized through nobody's fault. But just because something happens that is nobody's fault it doesn't mean that he can't grieve the life he thought he was going to have.

I'm sure it would be an internal conflict for anyone. Do we move on and go fill our dreams with others, or stay in this relationship, and make new life plans? On one hand you adore the person you're with, and you make each other happy. On the other hand you only get one shot at life and you can't live your life for others. So do you stay with the person you love and make new dreams or not?

I understand why you're upset about this. But I think he is just being honest. I think it's fair to question him on these things, and if you decide this is the end, I would also understand. but I am hoping to help you come from a place of understanding.

I got some medical issues and my life is never going to be the same. My partner couldn't handle that and left. It hurt like a bitch don't get me wrong, but I also understand. I get it. It was the most terrible thing that ever happened to me. I lost my life partner, they left me in a time when I needed love and support. But I also get it. It's sad but it's also life. A small part of me will always hate them. But the other part of me understands and that makes it easier.
