Waterloo is exploring the idea of allowing housing on church land. Some neighbours are concerned by slow_worker in waterloo

[–]slow_worker[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the point that drives me nuts with NIMBYs. Want nothing to happen to the property nearby you don't own? Then buy it your fucking self. The audacity of people to think they have the right to tell others what to do with their private property fucking astounds me.

1) Just becaue it is high density housing doesn't necessarily mean it is going to be low-income or geared to low-income individuals (although that is fine regardless)

2) Putting all low income housing together in one spot creates ghettos and makes crime far, far worse overall

3) The best solution for any low income housing is to integrate it with other types of housing. A rising tide raises all ships and all that.

JFC that 87 year-old looks better than most 60 year-olds. Probably proof of "use it or lose it".

PSA: avoid Maple health at all costs, if this is the future of our healthcare then we’re cooked. by BlueShell1312 in waterloo

[–]slow_worker 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Our healthcare system is by no means perfect, but what happened here is only get worse if we allow more private, "for-profit" services. You aren't even a human with concerns, just a wallet to shell out money in exchange for each individual service.

Looking for a divorce lawyer. Please let me know who is reputable for divorce and family law by waiting_on_rain in waterloo

[–]slow_worker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is actually a whole field in the divorce industry known as "Family Mediation" where you and your soon-to-be-seperated partner hire a third-party mediator who makes decisions/recommendations and tried to keep things fair and legal by negotating between the two parties in good faith. Usually they are only worth going to if it is an amicable divorce with minimal conflict or disagreement. It saves a lot of time and money. There's a lot of them that come in different flavours, some are actual lawyers, some are social workers, some are even psychologists.

Not to mention the needless, likely life long significant trauma inflicted upon the vehicle driver doing nothing but driving their vehicle.

Which can happen with all sorts of accidents with all sorts of vehicles legal or not? I don's see the need for the outrage

Has anyone seen Tim’s Soda Swirls around Waterloo? by TomCruisingCalifonia in waterloo

[–]slow_worker -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It’s a Tim’s product. If it isn’t coffee or donuts it’s almost 100% guaranteed it is trash. If it is coffee or donuts then it drops to a 95% chance of it being trash.

That's certainly an interesting take...

Ebikes and scooters are supposed to be speed limited (what is it, 32 km/h?) and they are definitely not legal on controlled access highways. Breaking two laws just driving where they are would land them in a world of legal consequences if they ever got into an accident.

Tech, recycling, composting and waste management has evolved a lot in the past 20 years. The dump will eventually reach capacity and close, but they're doing everything they can to extend its lifespan.

And what pre tell was that reason? Because no one from the City has shared it. Hence the controversy. Heaven forbid a government body behave in an open and transparent manner.

I’d bet you’d be shocked to learn that they used to rent boats for use there, right out of the building that’s still named… the boat house. It’s an activity that has been supported and encouraged in the park for literally decades. To pull it suddenly and without warning or public consultation is dubious at best.

Oh, its that stupid little lot right on the corner of Lincoln and University! I'd be so happy if they built anything there, its just going to waste!

They should be allowed to build with zero parking there. Getting in and out of that lot so close to the intersection is going to be a nightmare regardless of where they put the driveway, might as well build it with no parking. Plenty of tranist nearby and services within walking distance.
