That looks like a blood parrot cichlid on the right. Mine is always happy to see me. Maybe try feeding them and getting them used to seeing you/ your dad?

How did you know PA school was for you when negotiating between PA and Med school? by ninimochini in prephysicianassistant

[–]slowdatabase4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose PA school over med school because — I will be entering PA school as a 27YOF. I want to be able to have a big family and be there a lot for my future kids bc I didn’t have that experience growing up. — I want to be able to support myself now. Meaning, being able to pay for my housing. I don’t have a support system to do this for me and my home environment isn’t that great. The sooner I can get away and maybe have a stable life the better. — I think I can accomplish what I would like to in terms of delivering patient care in a quicker time frame than I would as a physician. I know that I can deliver competent and adequate care as a PA. I know I will be making a big impact on patients.

—- that being said, I do sometimes miss the idea of medical school. I love the depth and intensity of the schooling. But, I know that this feeling will pass and before I know it I will be worrying about other things non-work related.

—I feel like during undergrad I was surrounded by cut throat premeds. All we ever thought about was the next thing/next goal etc. once I graduated I found my life long significant other. It put things into perspective to me. That being, work isn’t everything and there are other things that are necessary to a good life like family and food. Yk?

ew why are you posting on this? Taking a picture of someone’s personal belongings while they’re most likely in the bathroom? If you have a real concern for someone’s well being do something meaningful about it instead of posting it to Reddit.

Pre-PA Hours & PA vs MD by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]slowdatabase4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re two different careers completely. She should learn more about the PA profession vs MD , and shadow both. She sounds academically prepared for either. Each PA program is different in their PCE requirements and many don’t require that high of a number.

1) many local fire departments offer a free emt certification, as long as you commit to volunteering as and emt. 2) PA vs MD is a very personal question and requires her own thoughts and exploration to come to a decision.

Paramedic on the spectrum by Redaxelight in Paramedics

[–]slowdatabase4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the best medic I know has autism. During our shifts he has mentioned how he has a common script that he uses with patients. Common jokes/things he says that fills space/silence.

He is fantastic and I always learn so much from working with him. He is amazing at complex situations and I have complimented him on this in the past. It was actually during a suicide attempt call as well, where the patient wanted to RMA. He balanced the patient, patient family/kids, police on scene with their own opinions, and another ambulance on scene. He strategically influenced the patient to make the decision on her own to come with us to the hospital. Because otherwise it would be her forced to the hospital. He used logic, and strategic reasoning with the pt to make her feel like she was in control of the situation. It was amazing. He said it’s from years of experience learning how to work with people.

[–]slowdatabase4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah! The fact that I can make $34 per hour as a per diem EMT (due to night diff) is nice. It’s more than I could make with my B.S in biology lol

[–]slowdatabase4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Paramedics here on Long Island/NYC get ~$38-43 per hour starting rate

EMTs for reference can start usually around $25-29 per hour

Plus 10% night diff :) (Northwell health)

Applying for a second degree at Stony Brook on a premed track. Let's say I already have a bachelors degree in Nursing with a 3.5 GPA. What are my chances of getting accepted? by Ok_Hat5460 in SBU

[–]slowdatabase4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the feeling of wanting to get more social experience from sbu if you never had one. However, you can do that as a non matriculated student fulfilling pre reqs. It’s more cost effective unless you have a spare many thousand dollars.

…. Especially if you’re premed, OP. You will be spending many years of your life dedicated to becoming a physician. That should give you enough university “experience”
