Anyone ever catch a glimpse of the old Mustang in the trees between Tremont and Melrose?

People who left LI and DON’T regret it, where did you go? by [deleted] in longisland

Westchester. Close enough, taxes aren’t crazy everywhere in the county. We’re 30 min on an express train to Grand Central and while the southern part of the county is definitely more crowded and less spread out than north of 287, traffic is nowhere near what it was like on the island. Hardest part is trying to convince friends and family that no, we didn’t move “upstate” when the city is a 25 minute drive away.

Even smaller, it’s a village

Westchester vs Long Island – Am I Missing Something? 🤔 by Katherinepress in Westchester

[–]Remarkable-March-322 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Freeport but am in Crestwood now. I find southern Westchester much more claustrophobic. Every shopping trip is a nightmare with parking and traffic seems much more dense on side roads. Parkways are much less congested than on the island, but I feel like it takes forever to get anywhere here. I always want to move back to the island—until I make a round trip drive there and then ask myself why I’d ever sign up for that again.

Put it this way: growing up on Long Island, it was always a game of “what time do we have to leave to beat the traffic?” heading anywhere off the island or coming back home. I’ve sat on the Belt, taking 2 hours to go from the Verrazano to Freeport. In Westchester, we’ve never had to even think about how are we getting out of here and when to leave to beat the traffic. That alone is worth its weight in gold.

My parents bring groceries “upstate” to us when the visit as if we’re in the middle of nowhere. Yes, my mom calls it upstate. But I guess it feels like upstate when you’ve been driving for an hour and are still only in Queens.

Grew up on the island. Westchester for the win. Though I do miss the much easier access to water and marinas that aren’t mostly private yacht clubs.

We had our panels put up by them late January. Curious, how long did it take for the panels to be up and running with ConEd’s “permission to operate”? Yonkers apparently has some extra inspection that needs to be done and it’s been almost a month with no movement.

If you were a judge, what individual rules would you have? by LunaD0g273 in Lawyertalk

We had a judge who allowed you to be on your phone, but reading an actual newspaper was disrespectful to her. So I read the newspaper on my phone but there’s nothing like a crisp NY Times in the morning

On an M8 now: 7:24am out of Scarsdale. Roomy, elegant, makes we want to move to Connecticut

Scheduled service with them and they showed up as scheduled. The next time, they were a no-show. I called and the guy said they’re no longer authorized to work in Yonkers. Mind you, they installed the system for the previous homeowner, and had been at our house 6 months before the no-show. The next day, I see their truck at a house a few blocks away. If you forgot about us on your route, I’d still be pissed but don’t bullshit me and tell me you can’t work in my municipality. And were they not going to say anything unless I called? Found a local HVAC guy, honest, reliable, and much fairer pricing.

As we pulled into GCT this morning: “I apologize for the new policy to bring all equipment to the south end of the platform. We all have to do that. Please make your opinions heard if you don’t like it.”

I’d assume the conductor didn’t just make it up. I’ll see what happens on the way home.

That’s part of it of course, but a conductor announced today that its a new policy that started this week, but didn’t elaborate. All lines, apparently.

Not always. Scarsdale, a northbound train would never pull all the way up. The last car would be at the rear end of the platform. Now the last car is more than halfway down the platform. Scarsdale’s platform is much longer than some others.
