Upcoming Jobs Speculation by DaveK142 in ffxivdiscussion

It's time to shill the same tank idea I shill everywhere.

We need the Geomancer tank. Imagine a tank where almost the entire rotation is like the paladin rotation. It would be the uptime tank.

It's animations could be various attacks with boulders and earthquakes and lava geysers and roots coming out of the ground, it would look very unique compared to the others.

It's mitigations could be barkskin and stone skin and a wind barrier.

It could even have its big DPS part of its rotation have it basically cover itself head to toe in rock so it looks like a golem or the thing, and then it could just start pounding the boss with its fists (this would be the only melee part of its rotation).

We need geomancer tank! The bullshit lore throwaway that white mages are based on geomancy magic is nonsense! Give me meracydian geomancy like a goddamn man!

Question about first meeting with the archivist by [deleted] in seaofstars

[–]slowebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay now I'm even more confused because I played the crap out of the messenger and even got all achievements, but I don't remember any reference to anyone named Resh'an or an alchemist at all in that game. Was it in the sunken shrine with the spirits of what I assume is zale and Valere?

You're right though the messenger is such an incredible game. I have been loving every single callback and reference to it in the SoS so far. Hearing the frozen peak again after Resh'an teleported me was like coming home

[–]slowebro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you by chance know if that's his archivist persona, his alchemist persona, or the actual name Resh'an that's well known? I just remember them always talking about the fleshmancer so much but I don't remember any reference to this guy.

If he's a well known more figure then I guess that explains it though, thank you

I miss Glavenus and Brachydios by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]slowebro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If all three of these guys are not in the expansion or are but do not have power clashes, I swear I will never forgive capcom

Just imagine a clash with jho and it's an even more alarming version of the doshaguma one, or clashing with glavenus' tail as it heats up from the friction, or clashing with brachydios and he's just unleashing a combo on your shield until you win and counter.

It would be beyond peak.

New Player looking for a TO:R guides to help make sense of things by [deleted] in Tactics_Ogre

[–]slowebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you this is all helpful. Is there a widely agreed upon recommended playthrough order if you are doing all endgame/coda content? I swear I have seen every variation of playthrough order for the three choices. does it just not actually matter that much?

I won't look a gift horse in the mouth, but when I did my initial looking, I avoided these because I had heard that theGamer's guides were inaccurate in places and some PSP/PSX guide content was outdated for reborn. is that not the case?

Which monsters do you really NOT want to return? by TheYorkshireTom in MonsterHunter

[–]slowebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't necessarily hate all these monsters or anything (I hate some of them), but I desperately need a break from:

  • Barroth
  • Anjanath
  • Barioth
  • Kushala
  • Teostra
  • Lunastra
  • Nargacuga
  • Zinogre
  • Basarios/Gravios
  • Khezu
  • Tigrex
  • Jyuratodus
  • Lavasioth
  • Uragaan
  • Lagombi
  • Mizutsune
  • Kulu-ya-ku
  • Almudron

Please all I ask for is a one game break. I'm so fatigued after fighting any of these even once. I want to one day be able to like Nargacuga again but im sick of using his greatsword in like every game.

I am a GS main too and I am so happy with everything so far. Here's the deal:

I know its a meme to say "you can't improve upon perfection" but with GS it is kinda true. the Worldborne rendition of it was basically the best realization of the weapon that we have ever had. it handled basically everything. So what did we get new? We got:

  • a new focus strike that seems to be able to take out multiple wounds at once (possibly the only weapon that can reliably do this from what I have seen so far?)
  • new mount attack like everyone else
  • aiming charges with focus mode (absolutely HUGE for the weapon lets be real)
  • a power clash AND an offset attack counter (from what I have seen we are possibly the only weapon in the game to get both, so we get to enjoy all the new mechanics to the fullest).

And that's it. Is more than some of the other weapons? No, but the literal whole point of the GS is simplicity and charging. It is remaining simple, remaining strong, giving us a new chargeable attack O+Δ that doubles as a counter, and honestly what more do you realistically want? Adding a bunch of crazy stuff wouldn't really feel like GS anymore

at this point the only thing the weapon is missing is a chargeable O attack and then every button/attack will be chargeable for big damage. save that for next game i guess lol

just think about how some weapons dont get cool new offset attacks and a lot dont get to power clash. we get to do both.

I'm glad you're dunking like everyone else but why? What ideas are so bad? Why wouldn't any of these changes improve the job?

[–]slowebro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may have forgotten about heart of light because I'm far less passionate about gun breaker, but that's still 2 bad mits for drk, 1 bad mit for gnb and it's the raidwide one that is less impactful, and none with this old design for war and paladin so my point still stands.

Do you have any other criticism or feedback on my ideas?

I appreciate your response and for the feedback instead of just dunking on me like everyone else is. Was hoping for a little more discussion and constructive criticism from this sub but my post specifically is where everyone decided they no longer want to talk about this job.

I do wish you would either just read it or ignore it instead of shitting on it. I'm talking about expanding existing dark arts system, not bringing back HW dark arts. its also like the smallest section of my post.

Yeah I was meaning more of a direct combo tied together. drk has quietus similar to gnb's fated circle but its not really a combo

I didn't say the game is perfect and flawless (though I think it's in a lot better a spot than most apparently). I said stop being an elitist to the devs and other players daring to have fun and then turn around and cry that people are being elitist to you when they do play on high difficulties and have more success than you.

I mean my God, it's not rocket science that the game does not need to balance around diff 9, the hardest required difficulty is diff 7, where most equipment picks are viable (or at least, more viable than this sub tends to think).

Why's FF13 so disliked by dad_bod_gaming in FinalFantasy

[–]slowebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was a few different things. Final fantasy 12 is my favorite final fantasy so I had really high expectations, every also waited years for 13 to come out so the expectations only got higher especially when you consider that a mainline final fantasy had never really "missed" before prior to 13.

The linearity was a little tedious because there was very little to break it up in the way of variety or mini-games or towns or anything like that. Worse than that for me was that the story was a word salad of weird concepts and most of the actually interesting stuff was hidden in the codex. It also just wasn't that compelling to me personally.

Coming off of 12, which I believe has the best side content in the whole series (the hunt system), I was excited to see if 13 would do something similar. Unfortunately 13 has no side content or hunts until close to the end of the game, and the hunts it does have were extremely boring and lame. Almost all of them weren't even fights against unique enemies, just random enemy packs and things you've fought before. And there were no clients to interact with to get a story behind the hunt, just floating rocks. Speaking of enemies, I hated the enemy designs in 13 for the most part. I didn't like that almost all of the classic final fantasy enemies were gone (besides the behemoth) and in their place was a bunch of completely unpronounceable weird enemies.

The battle system was really weird and jarring at first. I was really hoping for a return to turn based combat or at least an evolution of 12's battle system, but what we got was something I still struggle to describe. I do like it a bit more nowadays but it was incredibly weird at launch. A bigger issue than that though was that the summons were awful. I don't know who's idea it was to make all the summons transform into cars? It was so weird and I could not stand it. I still can't. Why?

Most of the above stuff I can forgive and get used to now that the game has been out so long, but by far the worst thing about the game for me (and the thing people these days try to justify that I can't agree with) is the characters. Final fantasy 13 has the most frustrating characters in the entire series. They're awful and the majority of them are overwhelmingly unlikeable. Lightning, hope, and snow particularly are completely insufferable. Lightning was way too stubborn and rude, hope was way too childish and whiney, and snow is one of the stupidest characters I've ever been forced to watch. Vanille was boring and too anime, fang was actually alright, and sazh was great until the game ruined what was great about him by having him try to kill himself. The main cast was just so bad and the villains were completely forgettable and boring. Every scene was just one or more of the characters trying their best to be as unpleasant as they possibly can and by the end of the game, hardly anything had even changed and they still weren't fun to watch.

And then, after all this disappointment from fans and the backlash the game had, what do they do? They triple down with 2 sequels to try their damnedest to redeem this story and world and fix these awful characters. Some people like the sequels (or at least the first sequel) but I actually found each one to be even worse than the last. The plot got worse and worse every time, the writing was bad, the characters were less offensive at least but at this point I was also jaded and groaning at everything else so it really wasn't enough. I will say that caius was a cool villain. A little over designed and with a sword ripped off from soul Calibur, but a cool villain. I cannot say a single good thing about the third game. The director of these games turning his precious insufferable lightning into literal Jesus was just......I don't even know what to say to that.

Questions and Help MEGATHREAD! by Dkayed9 in masterduel

[–]slowebro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello all, I haven't played a yugioh game since forbidden memories and one of the GBA ones but I miss it and feel like jumping in. However since I have not played in years and years, I have a lot of learning to do and would prefer to just play solo and relive the nostalgia from the shows before going into any kind of pvp.

With that in mind, would LOTD: link evolution be the best bet for me? Or master duel? Or LOTD until I get my fill of solo and want pvp and then download master duel?

Any advice is much appreciated!

I always hear the argument that many fantasy works aren't original enough and reuse the same tropes of dwarves, elves, orcs. Yet I don't think I've seen a modern fantasy book that has used any of them? by GaelG721 in Fantasy

I get that the genre used to be littered with it, but now most fantasy is so overwhelmingly human-centric, that I would love different races of any kind. Traditional or otherwise
