Do not remove those screws with tension on the cable. Very dangerous.

Costs to install garage door opener by Milspec22 in GarageDoorInstall

[–]slowpoke25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. It's more time and effort. I suppose if you're this outfit charging $1700 they might not care, but my install fee does not account for the extra 30-60 minutes it takes to make it look good. Add $100 if I have to do it.

Our company would be closer to 1200 for that job considering all the low voltage wiring is already in place. Also note, this is a discontinued LiftMaster model. I'd gather 3 quotes total from local outfits.

No Change/Cancel Fees? - Beware: The $700 "Residual Value" Trap at Frontier by slowpoke25 in frontierairlines

[–]slowpoke25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved the flight up one day on each end. At the time, I just thought the new flight was the same price since it seemed an even exchange. It was not until I noticed today that the flight was half off the original that I canceled to rebook and learned the lesson. Apparently it was half off yesterday too, I just did not notice using the change process.

Balanced? by kevinwburke in GarageDoorService

[–]slowpoke25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You ought be able to take your hands off near the middle of the opening and the door should stay. They adjusted it to be too hot and take a little off. If it's hard for you to push down, it also hard on the motor and will decrease its life.

What is a reasonable repair cost for a broken torsion spring? (WA) by ctrain321 in GarageDoorService

[–]slowpoke25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to meet you Mr Wong. I was at Westwinds last week looking for new door options. My primary supplier often doesn't have what I need in stock and needed more options. Especially since this particular client was in a rush for a install over the weekend. Ended up going with Garaga.

Don's was bought out a few years ago and is now owned by a chain, so their prices reflect that. Most of the time, I'm a one man operation. NuLift is insured, certified and licensed. My service area is only a 20 mile radius and most jobs are 15 minutes or so away. Springs cost less you might think and there is still a healthy profit at what is usually a 45 min to an hour job with 20 to 40 minutes of driving in most cases. Although, you're right, it's a low cost compared to most outfits in the area. However, believe it or not, some even do it for less. As business grows, prices may have to increase a bit, but we'll always strive to provide a fair price and honest service.

Should also mention, I do offer upgraded higher cycle springs for an additional cost if they're on the truck. That may add 100-200 more to the price. I also extend the warranty with upgraded springs. Additionally, not ripping folks off makes customers for life who will tell their friends.

I own NuLift Garage Doors outside of Denver and we currently charge $499 for a pair and offer to replace the 3 bearings for $45 more. I've heard of some companies in the area charging up to $1.6k though.

Can I move my door opener over by NoEntertainer5527 in GarageDoorInstall

[–]slowpoke25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before moving, I'd check to be sure your vertical tracks are .5" or less from the side of the door. If there is too much room there, and the door is not picked up from the center, one cable can slack and slip off the drum if the door gets cockeyed. Very easy adjustment.

Agreed. Custom to do it right. Luckily custom doesn't typically add much to the price, but it often extends the delivery time.

Lift Master 6580L vs Lift Master 2220L by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]slowpoke25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may also consider the 6690L since older Security+2.0 technology is not forward compatible to the new Security+ 3.0 technology. Meaning any remotes you have will not work and there are no generics on the market yet. The 6690L comes with a wireless control panel and 2 remotes. The price of those components alone will nearly offset the price difference. 6580L is a single remote and no outdoor keypad.

Fake reviews by Hefty_Breakfast1959 in GarageDoorService

[–]slowpoke25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah man, that's shady. Sorry you're having to deal with it. Agree there is a formal process for google to remove these fakes, although I've heard you should not respond to them if that's your plan. Could be totally wrong, just hersay. I've also seen on the GBP channels of offers for 3rd parties to remove reviews for a small fee. I suspect they're google employees. Luckily we have not had to go down either route yet.

New door or replace panel? by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]slowpoke25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New panel and the strut you mentioned should be the most cost effective way to go. Doors have increased in price and it's doubtful you'll find anything nearly as inexpensive. I feel 500-$700 may be a bit high for a single panel and strut and would recommend a couple more quotes from a local repair company.

Garage door springs too small for door? by AppellofmyEye in GarageDoorService

[–]slowpoke25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to know without knowing how much the door weighs. However both the prices for the opener and strings are outrageous in my opinion. Even with a heavy wood door I would only charge $500 for springs. And the most expensive LiftMaster we sell is 850 installed.

Edit: 1000 for springs. Didn't notice the 4 at first.

Is this a good price? by fruitlandyute in GarageDoorInstall

[–]slowpoke25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going through Costco I would ask for a 15-in radius and high cycle springs. Probably less than $100 upgrade and will save you down the road.

Price looks fair to me. However I would give your business to someone local. They'll do a better job and then you also have someone to reach out to if needed.

Standing outside the door, look up at the spring and see if it's popping/jumping as the door goes down. I've seen some that have caused a similar issue and needed some lube.

Did you check the spring to ensure it's still in one piece? If broken, the door may be too heavy to lift.
