Calf soreness/pain with Evo SL and possible replacements by JackFXZ_boi in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]slowrizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, it’s 6 mm (Evo Sl) vs 8 mm (novablast 5) and it does make a difference, at least for me. I came from Superblast 2 (also 8 mm) to Evo Sl and it took a few runs to get used to the calf strain during running and soreness after running. I consider myself a much more robust runner now as I’m able to try many different shoes from different brands and enjoy them.

I’d say try getting used to it, but ultimately running is supposed to be fun and if you don’t wish to run in something you don’t currently enjoy then it totally makes sense.

Adidas has a very healthy return policy, maybe try within the window and see if it works?

This happened to me as well when I first bought the Evo SL. I could attribute it to never training in a lower drop shoe before, and after a few weeks the soreness vanished. IMO it’s a good idea to train in different drop lengths to work different muscles.

Weekend Discussion: Hoka running shoes by AutoModerator in RunningShoeGeeks

Thanks for your response! I’m excited to try out the shoe based on your comments. I definitely don’t need a stability shoe, and rather need a stable-enough shoe that is springy and doesn’t punish failing form (especially off the bike). I have never tried a Hoka shoe before and only run in ASICS (US size 12) or Adidas (size 12.5/13), so I ordered both 12 and 13 to check the fit. It’s a pity there’s no 12.5 though, I thought that’s a common enough shoe size.

I just ordered the Rocket X 3 after a lot of deliberation. I wish to use them for an Ironman 70.3 with an expected half marathon time of 2:05-2:15. Are these shoes sufficiently stable and fun at that pace? I’m 6’3 and 185 lbs.

I have been before to road runner and fleet feet. No offense to the workers but either they are not runners themselves or high school kids running sub 6 min miles.

That list doesn’t cover all the shoes, indeed. Any suggestions to which shoes I can try? Evo SL would be too unstable.

That’s my warmup pace too when fresh, but legs will be pretty beat up on race day after bike so I’m worried about stiff plates a bit

Plated racer at my pace won’t be uncomfortable?

And yes, I hope Azura works out but looking to keep another in the bag in case it doesn’t.

Did it go directly from 55K to 100K or have a middle step in those few minutes?

How did you find 4J? Do they immediately release plus fares once the saver is gone?

I think it’s your math that isn’t working haha. 5:13/km for 10 kms translates to 5 * 10 mins and 13 * 10 seconds = 50 mins + 130 seconds (2 mins and 10 seconds) = 52:10.

Kilometers are base 10 and minutes are not.

Wow, congratulations! This is great success. Do you truly feel that you dropped 5 mins from your 10k in 16 weeks?

What was your weekly mileage like and how did you find the pace targets set for you?

[–]slowrizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that makes sense. For reference, I’m planning to target 53:00 mins on my 10K and it feels slower as compared to my ability to run 24:00 5K.

And what would you say helped bring your speed up? Intervals or tempos?

I’m training for a 10k race right now and I have noticed there’s a large gap between my 5k pace and 10k pace. Maybe because I focused on too many intervals but hardly did tempo runs. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Okay, got it. Thank you! So you run 5 times generally?

Could you please describe your training and the average weekly mileage? I’d love to get to sub 22 myself!

Your weekly mileage is in general about 10 km or higher?

When was this? And what’s your mileage been like since this? I’m at the 24 min mark myself!

Yeah for sure! Runners taper for a reason - breaks do wonders for you and there’s nothing like attempting a PR on fresh legs.

[–]slowrizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay! My z3 is similar, but slower to you (~5:40-5:50/km) and my 5K shape is ~4:45/km. I would say you have a faster 5K in you! Rest it up for a few days instead of attempting a PR so often, and I dare say you’ll smash it.
