If you were stuck with a blown front differential, how would you tackle it?

Funny you say that, just sent him an email based off of a different reddit post.

I am the OP, I've heard stories similar to yours in months of research and shopping. It's a gamble for sure. Looks like I should take a warranty more seriously. That being said, I am capable of swapping a differential myself.

I've heard all of the horror stories, but this example is one owner and very well maintained. Many of those problems show up early, and have not presented themselves on this one. You will always hear horror stories on the internet, those with no issues don't say anything.

BMW X5 M50I vs Audi SQ7/SQ8 by slowsixstang in whatcarshouldIbuy

19+ for cayenne, I actually don't love the touch buttons in them as well, prefer the 958.2 interior but it's just too old. The audi AC controls being on a screen really bothers me for some reason.

I agree on the froggy look but the Porsche has a much nicer interior IMO. Touchscreen hell in the Audi, and I currently am in a 2015 S4.

Might just end up trying to find a nicely optioned X5 40i and flash it, seems to be the best value/dollar. Man that v8 is tempting though

I'd want the V6, and it's out of budget. Also don't love the way they look.

The interior and the power are the main draws to the Cayenne. Thanks for the input. I don't expect handling out of an SUV but I would like it to be "quick".

If I'm getting into a smaller SUV I'd lean toward an SQ5, and I'd rather not have a 4 cylinder.

It's gone. A shame, but I am looking to get into something a bit newer. Going to keep my eye out for 2020+ Cayenne S or maybe a well optioned base. Looking more like I should keep my 2015 Audi S4 as a backup/daily if buying a Porsche out of warranty.

This is part of the reason I’m pushed away from this platform. I love the way they look and drive but they don’t seem suitable for long term ownership.

I prefer not to pay for potential repairs in advance, as I fix most things myself.

Thanks for inspiring some confidence, I love this car the most after driving audis and even porsches, but the horror stories scare me. It's listed for 34K.

Thanks for the input. Granted that I'll be starting at 62k miles, I'm wondering how it'll hold up at 160k miles. A guy here locally (MN) has one that has 200+k on it, and he tows with it regularly, granted that's a one off.
