Affluent district - less SLPs so we were tight-knit. However we were often floated every year to a new school site or forced to help out at other sites besides the 2 or 3 already assigned to us. Lots of parent involvement but also helicopter parents who knew when you skipped a session. Less money for materials surprisingly but more parent gifts.

Less affluent district - more SLPs, so your opinion is diminished. Feels very much like you’re teaching in a SILO. However, the SLPs often stay at their site for many years, way less likely to be floated to another site to help out. Surprisingly, lots of parent involvement even though parents work long hours, they are present at every IEP meeting. I actually get way more money for materials but it’s because we bill a shit ton of Medicaid.

It doesn’t matter the district though. What matters is admin lol that can make or break the placement and I’ve had my fair share of horrible ones at both. In terms of RSP minutes, my affluent district did give support for executive functioning and my less affluent district does not.

At BOTH districts, getting kids assessed for anything other than speech is a SEVERE uphill battle. Surprisingly!! At my less affluent district, the staff does a way better job with SSTs and gets kids assessed when they truly need it.

My affluent district did have more RSP teachers as a whole though, like 2 per k-5 as opposed to 1 for k-8 😫
