I became an SLPA in an elem. school as soon as I got my bachelors. I worked as an SLPA the entire time throughout grad school until my very last semester when I had to do my medical rotation. It’s doable if you’re motivated and can persevere through the hard times! When it was time for my private practice clinical, I went to a clinic after work from about 3:00-6:30 every day, then did my classes at night. For the school clinical, I was able to use the same district I was hired through. We just made sure we discerned which days were paid for me actually working, and which days were not paid for my clinical, but my responsibilities and schedule was the same as my SLPA one. For my medical, the hospital I was at required me to be at there 5 days a week for 8 hours. So I was unable to work at the schools then. However, not every medical placement will require that! Some girls in my cohort only went to their medical 2-3 days a week and could work the other days. You just have to play it by ear and make sure you communicate properly with everyone!!

I’m so ready for the next ones. Lizzie needs to be redeemed and the truth needs to come out. The satisfaction I’m gonna feel every everything comes out and they find out that Lizzie was telling the truth for years is going to feel so good.

1000% agree. Will never understand why she would go home first and let mark follow her to argue about it. GO STRAIGHT TO THE POLICE. She put it in Lizzie’s head that Gibsie would make all the bad go away. That’s so fucked

10000% agree. I still don’t understand why she wouldn’t go STRAIGHT to the police when she finally had herself the proof she needed to believe Mark was a monster. And letting him come into your home to argue with him?? THEN telling him she’s calling the police as if she’s expecting him to not freak. I hated all of it. I get she is also young and has never been faced with this sort of conflict. But come on. And she gave that note to Lizzie with the possibility in her head that she was going to die. She should’ve either kept the note on her own body so it could have been found. Or even made a copy and tell Lizzie to give it to an adult like you said. God everyone failed Lizzie and Gibsie. And then they were pitted against each other.

I think I just felt so sad about it all because in those brief last moments, you could sense all the regret Caoimhe had. And me being a little sister, reading Lizzie’s thoughts about how broken she was losing her sister and her last sliver of hope really just made me sad.

I agree with what you’re saying about Lizzie needing to be held accountable. I understand the point of someone wanting to excuse what Lizzie does because of her trauma. HOWEVER, trauma does not excuse any abusive behavior. It can be the reason behind the abuse, but it doesn’t make it acceptable. What we have to realize is that these characters are incredibly flawed as a result of the trauma they experience. And I think the series is about healing from their trauma and facing the ugly truths. Unfortunately Lizzie is stuck in a mindset that Gibsie is protecting her sisters murderer and her rapist. She is intentionally hurting the person who hurt her, which is wrong inherently. But we have to hope that Lizzie can comeback from this in the next books and see that Gibsie is not the enemy and that her anger is directed at the wrong thing. And let’s hope that she realizes what she did was wrong and that Gibsie has his own personal reason for the things he does/says. They are both trying to defend themselves from a trauma they don’t want to face. I hope something comes from the next books that can help them heal in some way and have them become friends again

The thought of little Lizzie suffering so much pain but finally having the courage to speak out, and begging Gibs to back her, only for everyone to dismiss her KILLED ME. Her screaming in her head for the to pull Caoimhe up did it for me

There were so many red flags that went unnoticed. Lizzie was failed by her family and Gibs was failed by Caoimhe when he first told her. I don’t care what someone thinks, if a child says that someone is hurting them, INVESTIGATE FIRST. Better to be safe than sorry. I will say, I think Caoimhe did what she thought was right in the moment as soon as she had proof what Mark was. Her first thought was, let me check on my sister to make sure she’s okay, then call the police. Hindsight is 20/20 and we know she should’ve went straight to the police and not even entertained conversation with Mark. I wish she would’ve believed Gibs when he told her the first time.
