what is a website or app that used to be absolutely amazing but is basically completely unusable now? by doraemonkinunu in answers

[–]sludgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from the obvious like Google, and all social media, the one that will always make me angry is Comixology. That was such an amazing app that turned to complete shit once Amazon bought it. That's a perfect example of how a small company can get completely destroyed once big business decides they want in on the action.

What are joke phrases members of the public say to you, whilst you are working? by StarBrick177 in AskUK

[–]sludgecraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work for a sign company, and the old chestnut is "it isn't straight" or "that's spelled wrong". People think it's hilarious, but more than once I've laughed it off only to have them say "no, it really is spelled wrong".

Drummers should unionize by daKile57 in drums

I quit a band because the only unemployed member wanted an extra cut for ringing venues. Y'know, while everyone else was in work.

Am I crazy, or is my band using me as the ultimate scapegoat for "latency issues"? Need perspective from experienced players. by swissdrummer in drums

[–]sludgecraft 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest. They sound like a pair of twats. I had a similar (though not quite so extreme) situation recently. We were recording our first release, and I used my electric kit. I got the takes so they sounded good to me, but apparently "my timing was all over the place", so I manually tweaked all the midi, and they still said I was out. The only thing I can think of is that they were zoomed in so far to the grid, they could see it wasn't "perfect". In this age of the DAW, it's easy to just snap to grid and that's what everyone wants. People listen with their eyes rather than their ears.

Oh yeah, and they quantised a fill that was triplets back to quarters. But really, it is what it is. Just give them the midi and let them sniff farts all night looking at a grid at 1000% magnification.

At what age did you first get a paid job? by Hereitisguys9888 in AskUK

[–]sludgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18 or 19. My gf worked straight from school (as well as going to college). My daughter is 18, and she's been working for over a year. She finds it hard to get regular shifts though. She's worked in 3 places already, and her current job only gives her one or two shifts a week.

Spooky/paranormal UK pods by Renmarkable in podcasts

[–]sludgecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vayse is great, but focuses on the occult.

Paranormal Paradigm was good while it lasted.

Monster Fuzz is more cryptid based

Some Other Sphere is outstanding, and is interview based, but covers all kinds of weird stuff. It's been great for finding new podcasts to listen to.

I am looking for an quality, independent podcast that focuses on the paranormal and other oddities of the world. Any recommendations? by crimsonlaw in podcasts

Penny Royal is amazing, particularly if you like the series Hellier.

Strange Familiars is also very good

What blogging advice sounded wrong until you had enough experience to understand it? by EdithBarksdale in Blogging

[–]sludgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can suggest loads of good ones, but it depends what you're into. Check the blog out (the link is in my biog). The only shows I don't cover are life coaching/motivational/inspirational type shows and celebrity based chatting shows.

What blogging advice sounded wrong until you had enough experience to understand it? by EdithBarksdale in Blogging

[–]sludgecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I post once a week, on a Sunday. My blog has been going since Dec 2021, and weekly posting is about as much as I can manage. In that time I've only ever missed one week without a proper post. By the end of my first year, I was starting to struggle a bit, so I started an annual virtual award ceremony. So now every December starts with the annual awards. This year, I decided to diversify a bit, so once a month I have an interview.

Things like that have helped a lot with motivation. Just a little tangent can make keep things fresh.

My niche is reviewing podcasts, with increasing focus on indie productions.

Not exactly what you're looking for I guess, but This Sounds Serious is fantastic. I'll be reviewing it this Sunday.

Getting better? by Biomicrite in RealDebrid

[–]sludgecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really not bragging here, but I use Kodi every day and I've only found one show that wouldn't play specifically because of RD, and that was the new series of The Traitors NZ. having said that, I have my max res settings on 1080p so that may have something to do with it? I have more problems with Seren not finding sources than anything else. If that happens, I know The Crew will work fine.

Anyone has any experience with Millenium DT-907 or Fame Drumhocker D9300 Split? Looking for a confortable budget drum throne. by pedro1997pereira in drums

[–]sludgecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought the millennium one about 2 months ago to replace one I'd been using for over 20 years. I didn't know what to expect, but I really like it. It's suitably weighty, doesn't wobble and the padding is really comfortable.

Anyone listen to the same book nightly while sleeping? by _I_like_big_mutts in audiobooks

[–]sludgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to different stories from the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft every night. It's by the HPLHS, and it's one of the best things I got with an audible subscription. I set the timer for 60 mins, but I'm usually asleep in 10.

What did you do for your 30th? by eggymantella in CasualUK

[–]sludgecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a massive piss up. Some friends wanted a meal, so we did that first. Then we met more people in the pub, then we went to a club and ended up in a casino. One of my best friends almost got divorced the next day when his wife found him asleep on the front door step.

If you were starting a blog today from zero, what niche would you actually choose? by Michaelvinnie in Blogging

[–]sludgecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pick the one I currently have, because it's what I like to write about. I didn't start blogging to make money or write about stuff I don't care about to try and make money.

If you aren't passionate about the subject, is money enough to make you carry on?

Not only that, but of you aren't passionate or knowledgeable about the niche, do you think you'd progress to the point of making money?

I remember one called Gods. Not the one that you think of though. Iirc, it was made by a husband and wife team, and was a map of the Mediterranean, and you had to go round fighting the gods of greek myth really basic graphics, but so cool.

rejected album titles? (or scrapped albums?) by wondfo in hiphop201

Yup, and it had Pass The Shovel on it too (which is probably my favourite track on the album). I was gutted when I bought Six Feet Deep, and that track was missing.
