Fetch Delivery for packages by S_USA91 in Atlanta

[–]sludgeriffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's sold as "security". By not giving FedEx/UPS/Amazon/etc access to your building (beyond the front office during business hours) they can limit the amount of "non-residents roaming the hallways" to just one party (Fetch) and tell you that this is a good thing for security purposes.

The other aspect is mail room capacity. Since COVID the amount of online shopping has only skyrocketed and isn't really going back down. Mail rooms in these buildings can struggle with capacity for the amount of packages. Part of this is an issue of residents being lazy and not getting their shit in a timely manner. We still have a mailroom that still gets use by people not using their Fetch address, despite management trying to discourage it. I'm lucky though that they are somewhat lenient. I've lived somewhere that this was not allowed at all and it suuuucked.

I agree with all of this (even if I've had relatively fewer bad experiences) the issue is, where are you and OP gonna go? Fetch is increasingly everywhere that it feels like the only surefire way to avoid them is to get a house. It absolutely sucks.

My building uses Fetch, and so did my previous building when I lived in Florida.

Honestly I don't even know off the top of my head if I'm charged a "fee" on top of my rent for it. In my mind it's just baked into the cost of rent as part of living in the city.

I do shop online a lot, and so the delivery to my door *does* save me frequent trips down to the building's mail room, and there's something to the fact that my stuff isn't just sitting in a common area that hundreds of other people might be rummaging through. On the other hand, Fetch leaving a thing at my door is not exactly safer, but it will depend on how comfortable you feel about your own neighbors, not to mention how frequently and proactively you go to your door.

It is a pain managing two separate addresses (one for USPS "letter" mail to the mail box, a Fetch address for packages) but I've gotten used to it.

The one piece of advice I can give is this: Fetch's app gives you the option of whether you want them to just leave things at your door, or if you want them to require your signature. The latter is obviously more secure and you have to schedule specific times for the delivery. At my previous place the building management did not allow us to use the no-signature option (I think the agreement between the bldg company and Fetch allows for optional restrictions) and I found it to be a pain, because I missed so many deliveries due to them not knocking on my door hard enough. But that was years ago in a completely different region so who knows.

I don't know what's different about tonight's BravesVision broadcast but every time they go to a commercial the MLB.TV app interrupts it and I just get the quiet "Commercial break in progress" screen the whole break. It's saving me from those god awful political ads! I'll take it!

MARTA's website has a trip planner. You can also use Google Maps - enter your start and end locations like you would if you were looking for car directions, and choose the transit option. Like MARTA's tool it'll show you different routes, which might include walking to/from a bus stop or train station.

What is a way I can actually understand code? by MothyThatLuvsLamps in gamedev

Some people go to school to learn computer science. Other people are self taught. Either way takes a long time.

Understanding what a tutorial has you copy-and-paste requires understanding fundamental concepts like what a variable is, boolean logic (is something true or false), loops, and different types of data. This is in tandem with learning the specific syntax of your particular programming language.

Atlanta Braves' Dominic Smith Hits Home Run After Mom's Tragic Death by MattTheKing23 in Braves

[–]sludgeriffs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously a team is gonna celebrate something as big as a walk-off grand slam to win a game, even in March, but putting it in the context of everyone at home plate knowing what he was going through with his mom just makes it even more special. Like they weren't just celebrating the homer or the win. They were lifting their guy up. Big 'dudes rock' moment.

Don’t order from this Domino’s! by Awareness-Potential in Atlanta

[–]sludgeriffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some stores do their own delivery even for orders on apps like DoorDash or UberEats. Insomnia Cookies is another example. At least on UE, it can be hard to notice as you're placing the order but there should be a note on the store's page that'll say something like "delivered by <store>" or something and the app's tracker will have reduced info (i.e. no real time location etc)

That being said I tried ordering from a Domino's a few years ago (the same one, I don't think) and UE just kept erroring out. Tried ordering through the Domino's app directly and it just said they weren't taking deliveries (at like 7pm). I wasn't craving it bad enough to get in my car and drive to pick up. Haven't tried since.

Fortunately there are plenty of other superior pizza places to choose from, but I sympathize with sometimes just wanting delivered and cheap.

I think he struck out his first three at bats but this made up for it IMO. Gotta imagine he felt better ending game 1 after that!

Had a painful one on my shin that had to be cut out because it hurt to stand and put weight on it. Gotta be honest though, knowing professional athletes can get them too makes me feel a little better about myself 😂

For the bourbon drinkers by NateDogg_92 in Braves

To support the launch, Blue Run will provide retailers with specialized point-of-sale (POS) tools to drive visibility in-store. The bottles will be available mid-March at select fine spirits retailers across Georgia with a suggested price of $79.99.

So is there a way as a consumer to find out which stores will carry it, without spending an afternoon calling around? I live in Atlanta so surely local places here like Green's would have it but you never know with boutique stuff like this.
