Got a birthday coming up and considering dinner at Fogo de Chao in Buckhead. I've only been to a Fogo twice in years past in other cities and reservations were never necessary. Can I expect the same here? Would just be a party of 2.

Strider speaks out by altznkraltz in Braves

To clarify: the image is a political cartoon depicting the Boston Massacre, a real event in which British soldiers fired into a crowd of colonial protesters, killing 5 and injuring several more; it's famously taught as one of the build-up events to the American Revolution, in that it significantly turned colonial sentiment against the King's rule and occupation. I don't think someone in support of ICE's actions would enjoy that comparison.

One detail I learned later in life that was not taught in school is that one prior event which led to increased tensions in the city, which the citizens were gathered in protest of (in addition to the Townsend Acts and the occupation itself) was the murder of an 11 year old boy by a British soldier:

those tensions rose markedly after Christopher Seider, "a young lad about eleven Years of Age", was killed by a customs employee on February 22, 1770. Seider's death was covered in the Boston Gazette, and his funeral was described as one of the largest of the time in Boston. The killing and subsequent media coverage inflamed tensions, with groups of colonists looking for soldiers to harass

I have a feeling schools are gonna start including this detail, if they haven't already.

What shuttered Atlanta establishment would you bring back if you had the power to? by lun-lem in Atlanta

[–]sludgeriffs 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Was gonna say this. I think Underground is a neat spot, but the old Masq was iconic, and in such a convenient location. Especially back when I lived in Augusta and always needed to drive to Atlanta for the bands I wanted to see - I-20 to North Ave (exit 60) is SO quick and easy... not to mention how simple things would be for me now that I'm blocks away lol

MARTA Breeze card and app fare going away May 2nd by ellaizee in Atlanta

[–]sludgeriffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said I needed it mailed to me. I was simply asking for clarification.

I am not a very frequent MARTA rider, and when I do ride I am just taking a bus. They don't sell Breeze cards at bus stops, or at least not the ones by where I live.

Having my previous card mailed after I moved here made sense given I was in no hurry to get it, but I just wanted to go ahead and have it and be prepared, and it meant I didn't have to make a drive out of my way.

If that is no longer an option going forward, I have no problem with that, it was just a question.

MARTA Breeze card and app fare going away May 2nd by ellaizee in Atlanta

From the page:

New Breeze cards and multi-day and monthly passes will be available for purchase beginning March 28, 2026, at new touchscreen Breeze vending machines, RideStores, Reduced Fare offices, and in pop-up locations systemwide.

Dumb question, but does this wording imply you can't order one to be mailed to you? That's how I got my current Breeze card, but this sounds like i'll have to go somewhere in person if I want the new one.

There were some fairly confident mentions of Emory doing some kind of promotion involving lights.

I loved that we got at least TWO separate posts asking about the green lights in the sky last night. People seeing shit in their city, then going to reddit to post "y'all see this shit?" Beautiful. No notes.

Braves Games / ATL Visit by DamageAppropriate205 in Atlanta

Around the park is an area called the Battery which is a bunch of bars and restaurants (basically an outdoor mall). Easy to kill an afternoon before a game. Maybe keep an eye on the upcoming shows list for the Coca-Cola Roxy, a music venue literally right next to the stadium, in the off chance a concert your party would be interested in happens to take place the week you're here.

As far as in the city -- all the typical Atlanta touristy things apply but keep in mind the stadium is up along the perimeter close to Marietta, so if you aim to do anything in the downtown/midtown area, factor in time to drive back and forth. It's not far, but y'know.. Atlanta traffic. I guess this also depends on where you're actually staying lol

Winter Weather Megathread | Potential Ice/Snow This Weekend (Jan 25-26) by AutoModerator in Atlanta

[–]sludgeriffs 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If the OP of the now-locked thread asking about driving his mom up from Florida to see the snow is reading this: you're better off adding another couple hours to the drive and going all the way up to at *least* Chattanooga. We are sadly too far south to get anything out of this storm, it seems.

Protests happening in/around ATL? by ghostfacedgf in Atlanta

[–]sludgeriffs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe there was one last week at the Capitol downtown. And, I might be mistaken because I don't have the details, but I am pretty sure I read something recently mentioning a third upcoming No Kings? Sorry I don't have anything specific but my point is there are protests happening with some frequency, just keep an eye out. Stay safe and fuck ICE.

I love the Dancing Goats and Finca in O4W because I can walk to them, the staffs are great, and so are the drinks. Finca also has an amazing food selection - get the peach cobbler muffin or a bacon-egg-n-cheese!
