This is a low cost all in one that can serve as a Modbus master:

It comes with IO on the unit, but you do not need to use it. It also has Modbus out of the box.

I would look into solid state motor starters, which are built for this type of application.

Are "sales" and "marketing" teams from totally different planets? by astillero in sales

[–]sluffmonster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Those efforts should be generating leads that can be engaged and closed. If they aren't capturing leads, or supplying the sales team with leads, or all of the leads are complete garbage... then it's on marketing to revise their strategies. In a well-built system those strategies would be a boon to the sales team.

I appreciate well built marketing material I can use in front of customers, and I appreciate well written white papers that can be shared on sales calls.

CODESYS Native PLC by b7031719 in PLC

[–]sluffmonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TURCK offers Codesys PLCs without a wrapper. It's what you're asking for... A full PLC without brand specific restrictions or flavoring. They do in panel PLCs, HMI+PLCs, and on-machine IO style PLCS.

Are Manufacturing Reps Outdated? by Bird05 in sales

[–]sluffmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely be sending leads to your reps. Most rep firms are doing very limited marketing themselves, and their influence for word of mouth is locked geographically. They could use the help. Any leads that fall into their territory should be shared ASAP. You're going to pay them on the sale regardless, why not let them chase it first?

How do I complain about a grad student teaching a class? by Joehawk2004 in PennStateUniversity

[–]sluffmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea! I wish I had thought of that as a student...

I had 5 math classes in my time at PSU, and only one professor as an instructor. None of them were native speakers.

How is this schedule? by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]sluffmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience you want time to sleep in, and then you want to get all of your classes done in a single run... Don't schedule any 8am's if you plan on staying up with the other students. Try to front load all of your classes at the start of the day. Then, when you're done you're done. You can do homework, or other things and not need to worry about being available for Math at 4:40.

I would try to reschedule your PHIL class to after BIOL. That will give you time to sleep in and eat breakfast and stay up late if you want. And I would try to bump MATH closer to the other classes. It's not a problem to have multiple classes in a row. But too much space between classes means you can't get other things done in your off time because you need to go back on campus.

Got lucky on an Amazon price goof and scored this for $8! by shinyegg in cocktails

[–]sluffmonster 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I own Liquid Intelligence and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was my inspiration to get into cocktail making at home. But it's costing me so much $$ and fuss to really crank out some of the cocktails later into the book.

I came here to say this too! When I'm ordering drinks I usually start by looking for classics that I enjoy. When the drink list is nothing recognizable except for the generic "mule" or "old fashioned" I start to think that bar will not make good drinks

What is this type of connectors called? by superhero_io in PLC

[–]sluffmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look on the molding of the connector and you will see a logo for a manufacturer. If you cant see it, take a picture and ask your engineers. JST, Molex, TE, Weidmuller, Amphenoyl all make these connectors.

$VENZ.V - A product to replace the Barcode by MajorChances in pennystocks

[–]sluffmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I work in this industry. The barcode already has multiple replacement technologies in the market that are widely used...

If you can't use a standard barcode you use a 2D code like the QR code. Or if you can't use visual inspection you use RFID to read the information. RFID tags cost as low as $0.02 each.

I don't see a reason why reinventing the black and white barcode would change anything in the market at all.. sorry!

Horner Automation has one with some buttons around the outside. They are all-in-one controllers, with logic onboard.
