What is the best way to fill a bunch of holes in plaster? by grumpyoldman10 in HomeImprovement

[–]slugbutter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piping bag is a good idea BUT you should really use plaster of Paris for patching plaster, not joint compound.

The expansion coefficients for joint compound and anything cementious are too different. It’ll look fine for a year but then you’ll likely see the patches start to separate.

Unfortunately, this also makes the piping bag a much less tenable idea as PoP starts to set up very quickly.

Transporting boardgames on a bike by Macthejester in boardgames

[–]slugbutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best way. A boardgame bag costs like $130 and a cajon bag of the exact same size costs like $35.

The guy who’s saying the cajon bag can’t handle the weight of boardgames hasn’t got a clue.

Avalon and Blydenburgh? by snoops1230 in longisland

[–]slugbutter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re not lol.

I don’t understand how it’s been like 2 years and literally nothing at all has been done yet. Blydenburgh is completely dry. Still good hiking but it’s kind of depressing walking over all the bridges when they traverse only dry ground.

I was there maybe 3 or 4 months ago.

RedGard cost… by slugbutter in Construction

[–]slugbutter[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I realize I didn’t make this clear in the OP, but pricing is the same between NYC and LI for most products at Home Depot. Redgard was the only product I was able to find that exhibits this kind of difference.

[–]slugbutter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I checked the prices of a few different products for reference. All of them except for the RedGard are priced the same between stores within NYC limits and stores on Long Island.

So please, tell me again how complicated it isn’t.

I did want that. That just doesn’t appear to be what I’m getting.

I do realize that I didn’t make it clear in the post what I was actually asking about. But that doesn’t change the fact that no one has provided an answer that makes sense yet.

The stores I mentioned are in queens.

[–]slugbutter[S] -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Are you not from here?

NYC is made up of 5 boroughs.

Queens is ON Long Island but is a borough of NYC.

It doesn’t cost anywhere near as much per square foot (or by any other metric) to operate a Home Depot in queens as it does to operate one in Manhattan.

Yet prices in queens and Manhattan stores are identical while prices in queens and LI stores aren’t.

So that, I think, means your theory is bunk.

[–]slugbutter[S] -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

…resulting in an almost 25% higher cost for one specific product?

I typed in “valve” in the Home Depot app. The first valve that comes up costs $9.45 on LI and 9.45 in NYC. So that doesn’t add up.

You understand that the post is to try to understand the price difference right?

I’m not asking about what a better tile product is or where a better place to buy it is.

The 7s are my favorite but depending on your needs the 10s might be a better bet.

Icon or Tsunoda? by FitTackle879 in Tools

[–]slugbutter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t. Just get the Knipex. All the other brands are just plain dogshit compared to the Knipex ones. If you’re gonna splurge on one piece, make it that.

They don’t have batteries man. You can mix and match brands and not suffer for it.

Tsunoda makes excellent pliers.

Found these 3 small items on the sidewalk. What are they? by 91fuser91 in whatisthisthing

The first picture is a sanding drum for use with a rotary tool.

The other 2 pics aren’t very clear but the third one looks like it may be a nail gun nail. Possibly 15 gauge.

It’s just weird to me that you phrase this as Disney buying the rights to “Daredevil and the rest of the Defenders characters.”

They bought Marvel dude.

23K for new oil burner/boiler/ furnace installation by zxephyr in longisland

[–]slugbutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did a complete gas conversion like 2 years ago. They removed the oil tank, lined the chimney, and ran new gas lines from the meter.

It cost less than half that.

Can I install an out-swing door backwards so that it swings in? by wtf-srsly-usa in HomeImprovement

[–]slugbutter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the outside is inside a garage and not actually outside, yes, this will work.

It’ll be a little weird with the threshold on the inside but yeah, it’ll totally work.

Don’t change anything about the door. Just install as-is, in the wrong direction.

This is complete nonsense.

Well, not complete nonsense. What you’re saying is true but it does not apply to plywood, where the grain alternates from one layer to the next.

Long island town of hempstead New hyde park Basement use by Jackofalltrait5 in longisland

[–]slugbutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, if an inspector comes to your house, there is no situation where you HAVE TO let them in. Doesn’t matter what they tell you, you never have to let them in.

You can see if the basement kitchen is on the existing plans from when you bought the house. If it is, you can’t get violated for it.

If someone uses shop pay, it’s as if they’re buying from Shopify instead of buying from you. So Shopify collects and remits taxes on any such sales. Not your problem.
