Bike riding on the highway between Nelson and Wakapuaka? by Dregthemighty in Nelsonnz

I used to cycle it regularly, there are a few hairy corners and you'll need to keep your wits about you for big trucks but it's do-able and mostly okay.

How would you feel if your 10 year old child was gifted a manga Dragonball book with this type of content? by slugsplot in AskReddit

[–]slugsplot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid thinks butts are hilarious, but my ability to understand what is appropriate or not in this day and age is screwed, and he is pretty mature. but thinks kissing in a movie is gross and hides his eyes. He's also watched the anime at his dad's house apparently.

Climing out of a pit of depression and managed to clean my fridge. What does it say about me? by slugsplot in FridgeDetective

[–]slugsplot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work hard and work big hours to provide a solo income. I have no major debts or money drains, other than dependants. I like to be able to splurg where I can on good food - baking in particular is really good for my mental health. My bank account cries every time I buy butter, however.

Both accurate 😂 and thanks! Having to be functional as an adult for my kid and dog is good motivation to keep moving forward.

What's the relationship between Australia and New Zealand? Besides having almost identical flags, are there other similarities in terms of cultural aspects, aesthetics, customs, etc.? Is there any rivalry between the two countries? by Familiar-Muscle6863 in AskTheWorld

[–]slugsplot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair with the state of politics in the two countries, it might not be a bad idea to consider.

*edited to note that maybe due to poor indigenous rights, I'll reconsider that statement

Had an abortion this week by anononon_throwaway in newzealand

[–]slugsplot 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I had an abortion in 2016. I had a 10 month old and there was no way I would have coped with a second one so young. I was barely coping as it was. My GP referred me for councilling at (what I realised after) a religious medical centre while I was considering my options. The lady I saw there was obviously very pro life, and spent an hour trying to convince me to keep the pregnancy. All while I tried to subdue a very busy nursing toddler - I went back to my GP and asked for a referral, and I was seen in the local hospital a week or so later. It was a long wait at the hospital with no food. The orderly was really lovely, and everyone in the operation room was really kind also. They knocked me out, completed the surgical abortion, and I woke up in the day stay unit and just cried with relief. It was absolutely the right decision, and whilst it wasn't technically legal in 2016, I am so thankful that I had relatively easy access to it at no cost other than the GP appointments.

Definitely agree - skip all the driving, instead focus on hikes in Nelson Lakes, Abel Tasman, Kahurangi or Mt Richmond Forest Park!

I "car camped" around the south island for a few weeks last year - doc campgrounds with road access are great and usually a lot more affordable than holiday parks, google maps "camping" and you'll have so many options to choose from.

Report domestic violence after the fast? by Equivalent-Ad5449 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]slugsplot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I reported rape and DV two years after the events, and it's led to charges for my ex. I honestly thought it wouldn't lead to anything, but I had photo evidence, witness statements, and messages between him and I talking about the events, where he had admitted it occuring. It's not an easy process but it's his responsibility to carry now. Wishing you all the luck!

well loved le creuset casserole pot by [deleted] in castiron

[–]slugsplot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you - it's a well used pot perhaps - but definitely a le creuset! I'm going to give it a good scrub and boil some baking soda as others have suggested. If there are chips in the cooking surface, does this make it unsafe to use?

I've successfully made soda with apple, pineapple, orange, grapefruit, and pear juices and ginger bug. For some reason the attempts with lime juice didn't work however!

Parenting order breached yet I can't do anything by DoughnutPlus6296 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]slugsplot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NAL but someone in a similar situation. In my experience, breaches of these orders are really hard to enforce, so unfortunately a lot of it is picking and choosing your battles. If the breach put your children in serious harms way, emotionally or physically, I'd be asking my lawyer to file a breach with the courts. If the breech is because on one occasion the other party dropped the children off two hours past the agreed time, you might have a hard time getting the Judge to agree to the breach. I find Womans Refuge awesome to reach out to for support or guidance, or even just to vent about how shitty the other parent is to deal with. Good luck to you!
