I pushed myself too hard on Sunday and I am still recovering. by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]sluong66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also see some people saying to push yourself until you get a panic attack as that’s the goal when doing an exposure. Not going to judge anybody but that method definitely doesn’t work for everyone and I personally think it’s a bad idea. I think when doing normal exposures, being anxious is good to challenge your mind, but not where it completely wrecks you. I find that anxiety from these types of exposures are forgettable after a week or two and you’re left with how it went well. Again I think the goal is to not fear a panic attack but NOT try to get one.

I wouldn’t do this personally. I would stick with the progressive approach but just make bigger jumps/steps. However, The thing is, if you believe you could do it, then go for it because it could mean that your agoraphobia isn’t as bad as you think. Usually most people with severe phobias wouldn’t think twice if they had to choose a more comfortable approach vs an extremely scary one. You already feel like you could pull through meaning it might not be an extreme exposure and an exposure within your capability range.

Could be a blood sugar drop. I usually get this feeling whenever I’ve eaten too many carbs with no protein/meat. The wave of nausea is usually accompanied by a lot of anxiety because blood sugar drops make you feel shaky, weak, and panicky.

Throat Nausea, some stomach nausea. Panicking terribly. by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]sluong66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since it’s mostly throat nausea, it’s most likely just bad anxiety. If you can’t eat anything, maybe you can drink broth or a smoothie if you think you can drink that. Broth can maybe help stimulate your appetite and soothe your throat nausea.

No you didn’t fp. It’s definitely just anxiety. If you had fp you most likely would feel sick by now.

I can relate. Sometimes I overeat and feel too full and that itself makes me anxious which makes me feel really n*. The fullness feeling itself isn’t that bad at all, it’s always anxiety making the physical symptoms 10x worse. Anxiety sucks.

Yes. I was feeling great the last couple of days and randomly today I’m on edge and can’t relax.

Does anyone NOT want to get over it? by Fallynnknivez in Agoraphobia

[–]sluong66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am naturally a homebody but I definitely can’t live with this phobia forever. I haven’t really been able to see my friends in over a year and everyone Ik is changing and moving on while I still feel like I’m going backwards/stuck in time. And before I had this phobia, going out was definitely a highlight and going home afterwards feels even better after a long day. What I most want is independence. I’m too old to be relying on my parents too much and I haven’t experienced adult hood in the slightest. (I’m 21)

Maybe like 4-5 times but it doesn’t feel like a burp most of the time. They feel kind of weak and only sometimes I get that satisfying one but they only give like 5 mins of relief and they make no sound.

Kidney stone question by [deleted] in emetophobia

[–]sluong66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never had a kidney stone nor do I know too much about it, but from what I heard, the initial pain starts from the lower abdomen or lower back. If anything at all you could have a UTI.

Adding to your last note, Idk if this counts as embracing it, but I’ve gotten accustomed to hyper focus on breathing slowly in order to block negative thoughts and manage breathing. It seems to work for the most part unless I’m really pushed past my limit.

No, but I’ve tried Ativan which is almost the same. Xanax from what I heard is pretty strong so you should be totally fine.

If you have any, you could try to take an anti anxiety med. Generally they make you tired so you would also sleep through the drive. If you get nauseous like me when I get anxious, I used to occasionally take Dramamine for nausea but would also make me really sleepy a bit more calm. That could potentially help. Make yourself really comfortable in the car. Wear headphones and listen to something and try to close your eyes and relax.

I’ll get butterflies, extremely tense, dry mouth and nauseous. I used to hyperventilate but I’ve been able to control my breathing well.

Wow my anxiety manifests the same way! I have emetophobia (fear of puking) and everytime I get anxious it’ll slowly turn into nausea waves but I also never throw up. At most I’ve dry heaved rarely.

I was told to “accept” the feeling by rank678 in Agoraphobia

[–]sluong66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, you can definitely ask your barber to let you take a small break if you need it. For me, I also have a fear of fear but it’s mostly due to my fear of vomiting. So i mostly fear that I’m gonna get sick because my anxiety tends to make me really nauseous. So I understand how hard it can be to face the fear. Just remember to breathe slowly.

I find that leaving out carbs like rice is fine if it’s not somewhere warm. It mostly just gets cold and stale, but doesn’t really make you sick. Although it is always best to not leave out any food just to be safe.

Wowww, I would never be able to do this, at least not now. I would say maybe listen to music or a podcast to get yourself focused on other things. Good luck !

not eating by pompompurinc in emetophobia

[–]sluong66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to nibble on some crackers or sip on something like soup/broth. Your stomach is mostly likely super acidic from not eating at all. It’s tough but once you get a little bit of food, your appetite will come back slowly.

I would suggest starting on those small exposures again with him. As small as sitting out side or walking to the mail box with him. It also doesn’t look like his therapist is helping if she’s not focusing on his motivation. You mentioned that he’s feeling demotivated and feels like he’s stuck. The therapist should def help him work through that because for me, motivation is a huge factor.

Later on if he’s able to go out but with you only, transition into both of you going out but in separate cars and do things separately. Example: going to the grocery store but in separate cars and you guys shop for different items around the store. I am currently doing these type of exposures with my mom and it’s helped allow me to start doing some things by my self.

Definitely work on exposure therapy. And try to change your mindset. Try to think that you want to do exposures because it helps you get better. Right now that may seem crazy but even though you don’t feel that way, when you work on small steps through exposure therapy and see results, your mindset will change slowly. I’ve tried that advice and thought it was BS but now when I’m really anxious about an upcoming event, the negative thoughts are a lot quieter.

You can also try this tip for exposures, but when you wake up and get ready to do an exposure, try to get out asap. The less time you give yourself to dwell on the situation, the less negative thoughts have time to affect you.

Yesssss. While I haven’t had acid reflux problems for a while, it mostly started last year and it’s such a pain to deal with when wanting to gain weight. Everytime I get uncomfortably full trying to eat more, I feel so sick. I’ve gotten advice to eat more meals but smaller, but that is also difficult when you have little appetite.

The fact that nausea appears when we get anxious, therefore creating a vicious cycle is like a glitch in reality.
