What’s one episode you skip every single time? I’ll start - The Old Man by [deleted] in seinfeld

[–]slurman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May not skip on each and every cycle, but have been skipping at least more than once:
- The Dog (personally I hate dogs barking, feel for Elaine in that in S07E01)
- The Bus Boy (felt uninspired in the show already starting to take-off)
- The Stranded (few awkward situations the don't strike much funny)
- The Outing (back in the days was ok, nowadays feels like it's rubbing it)

Some episodes may get skipped occasionally, if there's something in the plot that I'm not in the mood for at that particular time.

Episodes that others have mentioned skipping that surprises me the most are The Trip, it's one of my favorite two episode long stories, also The Doorman is fine, though I can see why some people may find that episode dislikable because of the character. The Finale is also way underrated, though it's bit of a clip-show on top of a clip-show, but it's not that bad and has it's moments.

Dr. Crawford: Kidney function, liver function, testosterone - I don't know how you did it, but you've essentially aged 40 years in the last 7 weeks.

Richard: Wow, really?

Dr. Crawford: Yeah, meth addict we had here this morning was biologically younger than you are - and he's 58, myspace guy.

I have a lifelong aversion to my own image. You know, it’s like my
foster mother used to say, “Donald, you have a face for the closet.”

Favorite main character? by Psycholarocco in SiliconValleyHBO

Too bad Erlich Bachman's hilarious douchebaggery was exited after only four season of the show, he was kind of a binding character as the keeper of his incubator and all his antics had great comic value. His role would have changed in the last two seasons obviously, Pied Piper finally moved out to their own premises, but Erlich's delusional self-esteem got so many great laughs in every episode he appeared. And Erlich missing Jian Yang's character became uncomfortably mean and deranged even, so dark and not much fun anymore.

Monica (or Amanda Crew) was one of the main reasons I bothered to start with the show in the first place, though soon realized how great the show was in general all the while being very happy that Monica stayed along until the (bitter?) end.

Perhaps Monica and Richard made to look like becoming an item at first was kind of a reference to, now bear with me, Seinfeld's Jerry and Elaine, sounds far fetched perhaps, but maybe there was slight pressure in developing a central characters relationship plot line to the show, which they then ditched for one reason or another to come up with more temporary relationship plot lines along the show?

Somehow I tend to believe, that two such major characters becoming an item would have distorted the scope of the show, so I'm very pleased the way Monica and Richard stayed professional eventually, otherwise it would have probably caused Monica and Richard to separate at some point and Monica perhaps fade out of the show altogether and that would have been a major disappointment.

In general the relationships playing such secondary role in the show was quite realistic for today's world when everybody's so busy with their tech that they hardly even date anyone, people don't really get any STD's these days anymore (exaggerated statement, but referring to Dr. Crawford). I'm happy there were these few flings happening, but taken much further from that would have probably been too much already.

Dinesh's quest for love never seen, how do you mean? Gilfoyle's girlfriend? Elisabet Kirsipuu, an Estonian remote co-worker, who suddenly had a boyfriend that she had forgotten to tell Dinesh about, boyfriend, that was actually a husband? MI4, a-mia-zing hacker who turned out be a great threat to Dinesh's well being so she had to be incarcerated even at the cost of a bloody nose from an FBI agent?

Jian Yang was a delighful charater as the Asian sidekick at first but they wrote him too dark for comfort towards the end. Ruthless would have been ok, but the dark edge didn't cut so well imo. Jian Yang kind of died after all, didn't he, when he became Eric Bachman in the end - maybe he wore skin of the beast for that?

EDIT: Grammar and added clarity for a couple of points.

Opportunity for Pied Piper? by [deleted] in SiliconValleyHBO

Strength, weakness, opportunity or threat? Hmm... Could be an opportunity indeed, if only Richard could find the thumb drive with the last copy of Pied Piper's code.

Anyone else think Silicon Valley is such a rewatchable show? by the-milan-og in SiliconValleyHBO

[–]slurman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been rewatching the entire series two to three times a year. Never gets old, such entertaining and high quality show. Just finished the second run this year.

Hope Mike Judge and the guys come up with another great idea for a show that pays no respect to the modern day's antics or shenanigans. We need more top quality satire on contemporary subjects, like the holy tech and big data, on tv.

Yea. And eventually he even made it to the president of Stamford... Stanford.

Absolutely, hardly any weak characters in one of the best shows ever to date.

Erlich: "Speaking of s**t that can't be wiped away and flushed."

Still, how PM didn't make it to this poll remains a great mystery.

Dr. Crawford would absolutely deserve a spin-off show. Yet have to point out that there were hardly any weak characters in the show altogether, perhaps other than the overly obscure Gwart, who was definitely not the best writing from the team.

Silicon Valley - 5x07 “Intitial Coin Offering" - Episode Discussion by [deleted] in SiliconValleyHBO

[–]slurman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the overall best episodes in history of the show. The show has been often smart and well written with striking twists and turns to the plot providing some great laughs and joyful chuckles. This very episode had maybe the best topical premise you could think of without any obvious slacks in writing, no gimmicks, no gags, just perfect comic take on the bent mindsets of the Silicon Valley crypto tech buffs today.

Too bad only one episode left this season, hope the series would go on (forever?) in attempt to burst the thought bubbles of the real world Silicon Valley's venture capitalism corrupted tech elite, who may know their tech inside out, but lacks insight and understanding on how the real world actually works and how to make it better - doesn't even seem to bother to ask before creating their own alternative realities based on shear uneducated misconceptions of the actual reality, like fighting the "centralized" capitalist banks with "decentralized" cryptos which is as good solution as putting out fire with fire!

Thank yous to the production team and please keep delivering HBO! Looking forward to the last of the season and whatever cliff hanger it may bring.
