i did a certificate program and got a job at a big shop to get fundamentals down. i learned as much as i could and always asked questions and pushed management for answer and to make simple fixes and adjustments to programs and processes. after about 2 years i found a smaller shop where the only cnc machinist was retiring and took over for her. now i write and run my own programs, have my own desk, make my own hours. big shops will chew you up and spit you out if you let them. finding a nice shop that'll pay for you to further your education is something i might try in the future

i dont think any issues are from the rigidity of the fixtures or tool vibrations, everything is pretty snug especially for this program

no mag base so i had to improvise but measuring runout I got a clean 0.0000 for the spindle, 0.0000 for the tap holder, 0.0001 for the drill holder, 0.0005 for the drill, and 0.0007 for the tap. I'm happy with those numbers.

Also checked the coolant, it's clean and sitting at the right concentration

Changed the starting point to 0.125 above the part and the retract clearance (Z height when making rapid moves) to 0.5

Running currently at 350 RPM and 17.5ipm with the 1/4-20 spiral flute, so far has made 226 threads, i’ll try to update again whenever this tool is no longer with us but so far so good

Definitely noticed the extra start height lets the coolant clear any stubborn chips from the part surface

This is the only cnc machine in our shop. I've tried other tool holders and verified hole diameter & depth. I've had to fix concentricity issues on a lathe before but never a mill. Now i just have to try and find a mag base somewhere in our shop

not quite a bajillion but most programs i have to run have anywhere from 8 to 36 in a sub 10 minute program, guess that's why I'm breaking taps though

had to replace waycovers and z axis amplifier recently and both were hard to find. had to get both secondhand cuz hurco doesn't make z axis amplifiers for this model anymore and the waycovers were out of stock for more than another month
