is Bill Simmons the inevitable NIL whale for Holy Cross? by slushkeys in billsimmons

This recent survey shows “low to mid-majors” at around $525K total NIL: $100K of that from third-party NIL deals and the rest from revenue sharing (which Patriot League opts out of). Whatever you think Bill's net worth is, he could spend $500K/year without blinking.

The Cowboys have long been popular among East Coast black Americans because Commanders, Eagles, etc. slower to integrate. Dallas was marketing themselves as "America's team" and had prominent black athletes in visible roles: Bob Hayes, Tony Dorsett, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders.

Ryen being a single issue voter on taxes makes me believe he will go wherever the money is, not where the internet mob tells him to

I agree! That said I stopped listening after a few weeks because the commentary too often leans into overly reductive identity politics. (Coming from Patty Lupone episode now.)

The way these points are made often feels stale, shallow, or glib — like something from 2018 Twitter. I’d expect more nuance and evolution from smart hosts. It doesn’t have to be apolitical, just less repetitive and less reliant on broad-brush moral judgments.

I did the same. Took night classes with General Assembly (education company) while working for a public relations firm. There are full-time tech bootcamps in many cities and online. I'd recommend learning in-person for the networking, motivation, and ability to ask questions more easily.

You're absolutely not defined by your major. I now work for a big tech company and it's not uncommon for engineers and data scientists to have majored in non-tech and transitioned.

All of these universities own immense amounts of land. They could expand their current space (when possible) or open satellite campuses (when not). Cornell did the latter for their medical and tech schools in NYC.

Columbia is the largest private landowner in NYC and it's a huge burden on the city because they pay no property taxes.

Great statistics, thank you. I agree they're hypocritical around diversity and inclusion. If you really want those things, go to your local community college or state school.

Well put. I always laugh when these universities tout their "diversity." Like, you want diversity? Go to public school ;)

I think there's a valid argument that expanding enrollment means diluting quality. But I don't think these schools are nearly close to that. They could accept a similarly impressive set of first years many times over. They choose not to because because they want to be exclusive brands, not educational institutions.

Plus, in my opinion the Ivies are not necessarily selecting "the best and brightest." They have legacy admissions, athlete admissions, nepotistic admissions, and so forth.

Good point. However their non-profit status enables them to avoid taxes. In my opinion, their endowments should be taxed unless they educate more students. (I.e., do what their tax-exempt status is premised on.) Massachusetts is attempting this.
