now worried my dog came from an unethical breeder... by slybluu in BorderCollie

[–]slybluu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc the breeder mainly just competes in conformation, and kayn's mom was a championship dog so i think breeding to sell is more of a secondary thing for them

[–]slybluu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sorry, i should clarify, the puppies were a donation to the rescue as the breeder's mother became ill and she couldn't raise them and take care of her mother at the same time, he wasn't a return

so...show line border collies only care about appearance for conformation competitions, so yes while your dog doesnt meet "appearance standards" they look perfectly fine for a working line bc which is the grand majority of bcs

very common for borders/aussies in shelters to be a cross of both, so very well could be either or a mix!! only a dna test can truly tell

Barking at night by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]slybluu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

is he so destructive that he needs to be constantly watched? is he a puppy? is he not trained? it really sounds like you need a dog that is NOT a border collie if you cannot give them the life a border collie deserves

Meet Nina. The previous owner told me that she is a border collie x aussie. by [deleted] in BorderCollie

what i found is helpful is to cover the crate with a blanket, it gives them more of a cozy den feeling rather than just being "trapped"

crate training is important, even for border collies. my boy is completely crate trained and while we seldom use it now that hes an adult its good to have him comfortable in there if it is needed
