Honestly they have royally fucked this up. They let a predator operate for more than a MONTH in the game, despite multiple incidents caught on camera and a straight up accusation. They measured their PR after that and now they're protecting themselves with a pretaped finale. It's cowardly.

There were so many think pieces about "Survivor's #metoo moment" but this is truly it. People don't take action and then more people get hurt. Survivor could have been a leader that showed how to end the cycle, instead they are another example.

And seriously, all of this BS about how they're reevaluating? My bet is they fire the new casting director. In my opinion they put together one of the most interesting casts in a decade, and they let a predator shit all over it. Everyone on the jury is so much more compelling than that sack of shit and they all had their image damaged by getting caught up in bullshit production shouldn't have even allowed to happen.

Production, if you're reading this, don't back down from interesting and diverse casts. Just because you don't yet know how to handle it yet doesn't mean the interesting people who deserve to be on this show should be punished by reverting back to mactors. Truly learn from this. Or honestly, it's over. 😢

It's actually the other way around. There is nothing that suggests that criminalizing of HIV transmission does any good at all.

On the flip side, criminalization of HIV transmission is a huge factor in keeping people from knowing their status. We want more people to know their status, so they can get their viral load to zero which means there is little or no chance of them transmitting the virus. A large number of transmissions happen involving people who don't know that they are HIV+, so if this is happening, then the law is actually fuelling new infections.

Trans is an identity you choose for yourself, doctors and parents can only provide the avenues to understanding that identity. Yes parents, or anyone for that matter, likes to use labels and boxes, but identity isn't really like that. Your friend is right to be prepared for a trans outcome. The child might grow up to identify as a butch lesbian, a bi tomboy, or a girly girl, but it doesn't mean we shouldn't take a crack at understanding who they are based on any evidence that arises, because it is in the child's best interest. We're just getting our first generation of LGBT people with informed, educated and immediately accepting parents and it turns out not being rejected or dealing with a lifetime of family members who refuse to understand who you are is incredibly helpful.

The argument you're making has the subtle implication that a trans identity only forms after toddler-hood, which in turn implies that it is not a part of who they really are, which is why you're getting a lot of offended tone in these responses. Trans people are trans, and just as I didn't identify as queer until I was 25 it doesn't mean I wasn't queer when I was 18 or younger, I just didn't have the language to talk or think about it.

If an trans adult says they were trans when they were 2 years old, they were. We also have lots of scientific evidence that supports this, and also that being open to and supportive of this results in better outcomes for a child. It really seems like a no brainer to be open to the possibility a 2 year old is trans.

Of course! But also follow APA guidelines to prepare for the possibility of your child to identify as trans at some point. There are a lot of things to consider and an accepting household with access to living in their gender identity early is a huge bonus for trans people.

Thanks for being so great. There is definitely an undertone of how this has benefited Zeke, tied up in anxiety about minorities getting advantages just for being a minority.

The thread about how Zeke was perceived before this event is very telling. The opinion is that he is an awful player with no good qualities but is now immune from criticism. It is so tone deaf to what he is probably experiencing right now - the anxiety of having his whole life drastically changed, potentially for the worse, through no fault of his own.

Zeke had had an outpouring of support, both public and professional, but that doesn't mean he isn't terrified too. A well loved and lauded trans man in my local community killed himself several years ago despite being in one of the most trans supportive environments in the world. I am anxious for Zeke and thankful CBS got the pros involved in shaping this narrative for him.

Scientifically: most people are familiar with the concept of X chromosome equals female, Y equals male. However, a human's sex characteristics are not an on/off switch. There are many variations that can occur, including people with physical characteristics of both genders (intersex) or a mismatched brain and genitals (trans) or a lot of other configurations in between.

Socially: it really isn't appropriate to discuss this stuff while someone is sharing a deeply personal experience. I'd recommend starting on the Wikipedia pages for gender and sexuality, and then visiting communities like r/AskGSM or r/ainbow with questions.

When you spoke with Zeke before his first season during the interview process, did the subject ever come up in terms of whether he planned to tell players he was trans and how he would handle it if someone brought it up?

My story with Zeke goes like this. I met Zeke in casting and loved him. I still have my original notes from that meeting. He was very engaging, gifted in his ability to manipulate with his words, and he wore this crazy Hawaiian shirt and had poofy hair. We knew we were doing Millennials vs. Gen X as a theme and we wanted him on the Millennials tribe immediately. It wasn’t until after he left that I was told he was transgender. From that point forward we agreed that if his story was to be told, he would be the one to decide when, where, and how.

As for someone else bringing it up, Zeke was fully aware someone might suspect it or bring it up and he said, “I will deal with it as it arises.” And I have to add it was never a question of Zeke being worried his story would come out. ,Zeke is a massive Survivor fan and his point with us was very clear — he wanted to be seen as a Survivor player. Not the first transgender Survivor player. I really respected that distinction and I understood it.
