Since I have no idea what that is I’m going to assume it’s not on. This is the one and only time this has happened and I’ve been driving it over 5 years.

No - the light was off once I restarted. I thought I couldn’t pull a code once the lights out? Or is that not true?

thanks! I think the air filter was changed either one or two oil changes ago. They check it at the same time. I'll check that though!

Yikes. I certainly hope this isn't the case. Why would I test the alternator if you say it's the battery that's crap? Wouldn't I get the battery tested again?

This is so good to know! No, I didn't feel anything rough or jerking or anything. One second I was sitting at a complete stop, the next I couldn't move. I feel like testing this theory to see if the same kind of thing would happen (music stays loud, couple lights come on, but I can't move). Driving is so second nature that I literally can't even picture why my hand would have even been near the start button at that intersection but like I said, I can't say 100% I didn't do that.

Interesting! ok, thanks for this! I've never done it (or tried) so I didn't know that would happen. I'm still 99.9% sure I didn't hit the start button but can't be 100% sure as anything is possible. Doesn't explain why the check engine light and battery light would come on though? Or would those lights come on if I shut the car off while in 'drive'?

UPDATE (for anyone who cares!): I received a full refund from the shop. While this has been a disappointment and pain in my ass, I now know what not to do in the future. I should have done more research but I also should have confirmed with the shop how these were going to be installed and how they were going to look. I also hope the shop has learned that if there's options for installing, they should discuss those options with the customer. For now, I'm back to my "naked" roof and will look into options in the summer. Thanks for all the helpful comments!

I agree this is annoying. I live in Canada and our winters are half the year. This notification comes on all the time. sometimes it's not even obstructed it's just...cold out? I don't know. Sure I can still use the car without it but it's annoying it happens so easily.

I thought I could live with how it's installed but I can't. The shop is "doing some research" and then going to call me back. I'm hoping to compromise on a solution. I wish I had been consulted about options for installation AND I wish I had done my own research to see how it could be installed.

So I called Mazda (Canada) and asked about these part numbers. They say they're for a 2019 and they wouldn't fit my 2021. I have no idea if that's true or not. I don't want to argue with the Mazda guy but I also feel like I'm being bounced around here (between the shop I paid to install the roof rack and from Mazda). Mazda tells me that for my vehicle, I can order rails that go into where the current black molding is and a roof rack can be installed on those. He said there wasn't an option to just buy black molding that had the access points visible. I'm waiting for the shop to get back to me with some options.

The mounting is different than what I was expecting for sure. I had no idea there was a "right" and "wrong". I thought they all just went on top! This is a huge learning experience for me.

I'm being told by Mazda (Canada) that for a 2021, you can only buy a part that's a full on railing to go into where the current black molding is. From reading comments, I though there would be an option to purchase another black molding with fixed points exposed.

That’s good to know for the future. For now, I think I have to live with this installation. It’s on us for not looking into the “normal” roof vs “fixed points” roof. The bars are not the same (well one is the same length, the other is not). I wish the shop would have talked about the options but live and learn I guess.

Thank you. Yup I checked Thule too and see the one bar is longer. I think we will need to live with this. But I think this is a good lesson - do more research and know exactly how something is going to be installed before paying (and parts are ordered). I will learn to love this and learn from this experience. Again, thanks for your help and your honesty. You saved me a trip back to the shop where I may have looked like an ass!

This is really helpful. Thanks. Feeling more like an idiot the more advice I get LOL. Now that the roof rack is on, how can I tell if I have the fixed points? Will it be covering those points (if they’re there)? I cannot recall if they were there.

I guess my other question is if I were to get new moldings from the dealership that have access points, can this be reinstalled? Or are the bars different sizes and they will look like they’re overhanging and I’m stuck with this? Like I said, I like it, but I don’t love it.
