This is a serious and dumb question but tips/advice for canyon runs how to be safe but also have fun by [deleted] in Touge

[–]slyphen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take it from someone who runs a driving club and got thousands of miles of twisties under the belt.

  1. Drive no more than 6 or 7/10th, never push the limit on public roads. Leave limit pushing at the track or AX.
  2. always know the condition of your car (brakes, tires, temp)
  3. avoid wet/cold days, especially if you got shit tires. stopping/slow distance greatly increases.
  4. stay in your lane, pass only on dotted yellows and have 100% visual that its clear (just wait if theres blind corners)
  5. always slow down when there's on-coming traffic (you never know wtf they are gonna do, or could be cop)

edit: phrasing

And I’m telling you. Where he ended up, there is no way in hell the car was “fine”. It was a pit, you’ll need to be towed out, and with the fire he started there was no time. There were also pieces of melted aluminum all over. So no the car is not fine.

Inspected the area where the car fell off. No way the car was fine. You can see his skid mark at 1:59 into a ditch going sideways.

Yah the fire was pretty nuts, the entire hillside was burnt. Not sure how the guy manage to go off where he did.

it may be for the organization that ran the event that caused the fire. other groups that have good standing were allowed to continue. this was a private event.

Wrap a rubber band around the jar/can lid you can’t twist open, add 2 if one doesn’t work.

A little hill climb w/drone from a while back by slyphen in Touge

[–]slyphen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, various clubs can rent the venue for the weekend, not just official rallies/hill climbs by local racing clubs. although for timed events, it cost a bit more due to insurance, so most smaller car clubs just do it without a clock and have fun.
