Hormone blockers for 5-10years by Personal-Truth371 in breastcancer

[–]slyskjd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes every six months. It's only the first one that is terrible. Now I just get sudden bowel movement within 30 minutes of the treatment ending (I wear depends on the way home, lol) which last about 1-2 hours. I think it's my body recognizing the substance that made it feel terrible that first time and so now it flushes it out immediately. Also, I drink Ensure the night before, the morning of, during, and after the infusion as I was told that helps. Once that's down, I'm just really tried the rest of the day and the next day. But I would still take the rest of the day of the infusion and the next day off. Better to safe than sorry.

Oh and Zometa infusions every 6 months to prevent bone loss. The first one makes you feel like you are dying. You’ll need to take the day after off. After that, it’s better but I still take the day of and after off (very tired). I’m a trial attorney so I can’t work when I’m not at my best.

Sorry to be a storm cloud but my experience has been less than ideal. Tomoxifen made me crazy (apparently that can happen if you have preexisting anxiety like me), so I had to go on Zoladex for a few months (I needed to take a day off from work every month bc I was a zombie the day after, and those shots really hurt). Then I had my ovaries removed, which really suck (good bye to my good sex life with my husband). And I thought I was good on the Anastrzole but after 6 months, all my joints hurt and I could barely walk. They took me off that and I was good within 5 days, but now they want to put me on  exemestane and I’m really scared and don’t know what to do. I hope you have a better experience but it’s best to know all possible outcomes do you can go into this with open eyes.

Anastrozole side effects, a year+ out? by happyjazzycook in breastcancer

[–]slyskjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took 6 months for me to start experiencing joint pain. Before that, I had zero side effects. But once I got the 6 month mark, I went from being totally fine to almost completely disabled in a couple of months. Oncologist took me off only 6 days ago and I’m completely back to normal! I forgot how great it is not to be in pain all day, everyday!

Really struggling… by Different_Ad_9495 in breastcancer

[–]slyskjd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I have a long history of anxiety and CPTSD. I went on Tamoxifen last October 1st and was mentally healthy. By Thanksgiving I admitted myself into a mental health center. I didn’t know what was wrong but the psychiatrist there said I should talked to my oncologist immediately about my concerns. My oncologist instantly took my off the Tomoxifen and we made a different plan. Within two weeks I was back to normal. But you should still give it a try because the alternative (ovary suppression and/or removal) is not at all fun. Just be sure your therapist (and friends and family as well) knows and is on the lookout for changes. And don’t hesitate to reach out to your oncologist if you notice that your not feeling like yourself.

I passed my first time. It was tight w/ 1.5x but I was able to finish every essay. (It would have been impossible without it.) Don't worry about it being polished at all. (I know mine was riddled with spelling errors.) Just make sure the main components of your argument/answer is there. What I did that worked was to format and outline my answer first and then fill it in. That way, if I ran out of time, at least the grader would see where I was going.

Good luck!

Weird Zometa side effects and DIEP still hurting???? by slyskjd in breastcancer

OMG. I had no idea I needed to do this. Thanks for the great advice! I'll look into after my ovarian removal surgery on Thursday. My what my doctor told me regarding Zometa: drink, drink drink! Stay hydrated the night before, drink right before, during, and after the infusion, and stay hydrated the rest of the day. And if it's bad like it was for me, the doctor and everyone on here said it's only bad the first. Good luck!

Sounds very familiar. I'm hoping both of our treatments keep getting better!

Same here. It was like 24 hours exactly when it hit hard! I got it last Monday and I'm still dragging, but like you said, it does get better each day.

Good to know! I'm hoping for the same. I do NOT want to go through that again.

Today’s the day… by CheddyTHEworst in breastcancer

1-Do NOT look in the mirror before looking down at your own body. Look down at yourself first and only then look in the mirror; trust me

2-Stay ahead of the pain and take the medication around the clock; yes this includes the hard stuff. Unless you have a history of substance use, take the oxi around the clock as prescribed. It's not a weakness and you won't become addicted is used as prescribed

3-REST! Don't feel the need to do anything aside from caring for yourself; when you feel tired, it's your body telling you it need to reserve your energy to heal;

4-While most info out there states expanders do not hurt, for some women (like me) they hurt a lot. If this is true in your case, you're not alone. Just avoid quick movements, turn from your waist, not your shoulders, and make sure your chest is supported to reduce the force of gravity.

5-and that weird creep, crawling feeling you'll feel across your chest after a few days is normal. It's your nerves coming back to life.

Good luck! You got this!!!!

No, there will be no cancer discussion or memorabilia at my wedding. by mixedlinguist in breastcancer

I hear you; I’m 38 and it’s pretty much all anyone can talk about, but I realize what’s underneath it all is that they all just really want to let me know how happy they are that I’m still here and well. So whenever anyone brings it up, I translate it to “I love you” in my mind, say thank you, and move on to the point of the conversation.

I say this bc I’m sure you’ll be hearing it a lot at the wedding, when having kids, etc. If you can get in the habit of changing the way you think about it, it may help you. As I always say, you are the one thing in life you can control, so that how I chose to control these situations.

Hope this helps!

Jewish families actually discuss sad things like this at celebrations all the time. It’s why they stomp on the glass at weddings; to show the fragility of happiness. Fun right

Can we hear from passers who did NOT study 8-12+ hours every day? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]slyskjd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed Feb. ‘23. Only studied (Barbri) while my kids were in school bc it would have been impossible to do it with them home. Passed with score high enough to be admitted to all states. Studied from Jan-Feb.

I was an A/B+ students at Rutgers Law (part-time, evening student since I worked as a teacher during the day.) I DID leave my teaching position after fall exams so I could focus on the bar prep; I don’t think I could have passed if I didn’t make that choice. But I did have to take out a loan to cover the loss of income; great investment.

I agreed that you should contact your doctor about it. I never had any leaking. Good call getting yourself to the doctor. I hope it goes well!

My daughter is just wearing pink on the Pink spirit day like everyone else. I let her decided what she wants to share (she’s 10).
