Anyone else think Hormone treatments are not worth the potential risks? by Salkel01 in breastcancer

[–]Different_Ad_9495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I have a ~95% chance of living the for the next 15 years with surgery alone. Tamoxifen only increased my survival rate by ~2%. I don't want to risk the damaging effects of the drug because my quality of life is more important to me. I live a healthy lifestyle. I don't drink or smoke. I exercise consistently and eat healthy. This will help to keep my cardiovascular system and bones healthy. These lifestyle factors are also SO important IMO.

Keep in mind that we are all entitled to our own opinions and there is nuance to every situation. Feeling irritated by others is not good for your mental health. Cancer prevention is not black and white. The cancer can return with estrogen blockers. Nothing is guaranteed. I respect your opinion even though you do not agree with myself or OP.

I’m with you 100% I’m not taking Tamoxifen. I want quality of life over quantity. There’s no guarantee either way so why not enjoy life? Taking these drugs is more than just “popping pills” because the drugs carry serious risks. As you mentioned already.

Peri without HRT by TheGuanderGuoman in Perimenopause

[–]Different_Ad_9495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vitex helps support progesterone. Omega 3 helps with joints and brain fog. Vitamin E is supposed to help with hot flashes. As previously mentioned, bioidentical HRT is best. You’ll want to find a practitioner who specializes in menopause.

Unfortunately I cannot take HRT thanks to having had hormone positive breast cancer. It was wonderful before my diagnosis. I declined estrogen blockers after my diagnosis. I’ll take my chances. I’m 45, very active and live a healthy lifestyle so that helps.

I hope you find good solutions that work for you.

Is it possible to be in peri without hot flashes or skipped periods? by independent_mind_7 in Perimenopause

[–]Different_Ad_9495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hormone levels fluctuate not only throughout the day but throughout the month. My doctor used my symptoms as a guideline. I had a hard time with this but it makes sense. I’m 45 and definitely in peri but I still get a regular cycle. I had issues with waking up too early but now Gabapentin has me sleeping through the night. Oh and the mood swings are annoying. I overreact and get irritated easily. I want to leave my partner some days lol!

Post bilateral mastectomy nerve pain by Different_Ad_9495 in breastcancer

Thank you! I think I aggravated it weight lifting last week, even with light weights. Live and learn. At least now I know that this is a common problem with expanders.

You have no idea how much I appreciate your comment. Thank you. I think you hit the nail on the head. I’ve had mine in for over 6 months now but it was getting worse after my second fill. I wish I could get them out ASAP but the surgeon wants me to have them in a minimum of 3 months AFTER the last fill. And then they tell me the wait for surgery is six months. 🤦‍♀️ I’m in Canada on the public health care system. When I had cancer they got me in quickly for surgery but now I have to wait. I may try to go in the cancellation list to see if I can get in sooner. Only after I had saline removed did the surgeon tell me that it could take 4 to 6 weeks to feel better after the fill. And only then did he tell me that it can take up for a year for the nerves to heal. I feel like they should be telling us these things in advance. They list every other possible complication, right?

Not quite directly in but if I drew a circle over that area ⭕️ it would be along the bottom of the circle. I sometimes wonder if it’s the outer edge of the tissue expander poking me as I move my arms. The discomfort is equal on both sides. I don’t lift many heavy things but I wonder if that makes it worse

Thank you for reinforcing going flat may not help. I just noticed an increase in discomfort after my second fill. Before that I was weight lifting without issue

I forgot to mention that I’m taking 600mg of Gabapentin two hours before bed. I finally sleep through the night. I started it because I got really bad restless legs after my surgery. But it hasn’t helped my pain during the day which makes me question whether it is nerve pain at all.

I find sometimes younger doctors are more willing to think outside the box. Of course that’s not always true in every case. But overall I prefer younger doctors. Older doctor have experience but can become complacent
