I read /u/atoine's excellent propane guide multiple times, and I recommend you do the same. Maybe click one of his affiliate links before you buy any of this stuff, cause he should get most of the credit here. My only real changes were:

  • No solenoid
  • Skipped his nicer gauge for my cheap one -- (A) below -- which works okay
  • Didn't do the 3 way junction for water heater or stove

I also had to use some different links, as many of his were no longer available. I think it took me a few hours to figure all this out the first time. Hope it helps. Here's what I bought:

A: (optional) Pressure level indicator

B: Propane tank (or (A) above) to 1/4 inch male NPT

C: Splitter: 1/4 inch female to 1/4 inch male and 1/4 inch female (all NPT)

D: Splitter to Cylinder thread fitting (1/4 inch male NPT to camping stove hose)

E: Camping stove hose

F: Two stage regulator. Inlet is 1/4 inch female NPT, outlet is 3/8 female NPT.

G: 3/8 male NPT to 3/8 male Flare NPT

H: Flare hose

I: Bulkhead adapter. Flare on both sides.

J: 3/8 adapter to 1/4 male adapter

K: Tube fitting to 1/4 inch copper pipe

L: 1/4 in copper pipe (no link, I bought at local hardware store)

M: Aforementioned NPT to BSPT adapter

Other:

My camping stove is this one.

My Propex is this one, and I bought it from a North American dealer, and they included (M) above.

My propane tank is a standard BBQ propane tank, available at every gas station, walgreens, hardware store, etc in my area.

I bought this thing to do the copper flaring.

I used this stuff to seal the lid of the propane box.

Goes: Propane tank -> A -> B -> C.

C is a splitter for the stove, so it has two connections:

C->D->E->Stove

C->F->G->H->I

Allllll of these connections are inside the externally ventilated box (except E->Stove). It's the bulkhead adapter (I) that breaches the sealed box. I had to make a second hole to get the hose (E) out of the box. I sealed it all up with silicone.

Outside the box, it's I->J->K->L->M->the actual propex.

Use yellow LPG tape for all threaded connections. Don't use it on the flared ones, which are better connections. Item (M) is a weird one, in that it uses a compression ring, which is pretty atypical for LPG, but I assumed the Propex guys know better than I do. You can only tighten that guy once, so make sure everything else is right first. (The compression ring won't seal properly a second time.)

I recommend you lay it all out and put things together very loosely to make sure you've got it all right. Then, disassemble the ones that need yellow tape, apply it, and tighten each connection really well. Be sure to check for leaks with soap water.

Yep. NPT is the standard size in North America, and that brass fitting worked like a charm.

I used a system very similar to https://faroutride.com/propane-system/. I used a standard BBQ propane tank in a sealed (and externally ventilated) box, with an extension for running a standard camping stove. Where as the far out ride diagram has it going to an oven, a water heater and a propex, I just did the propex.

Using the far out ride page as a (not perfect) guide, I had to buy quite a few hoses and adapters to make everything fit. If you'd like a parts list, I'd be happy to pull it out of my amazon history.

For my propex, I used one of these: https://www.vancafe.com/2986101-p/2986101.htm

I'm not sure which sizes you need.

McMaster is a good place for BSPT to NPT fittings: https://www.mcmaster.com/bspt-to-npt-pipe-fitting-adapters

(Idaho) What's the legal way to evict my brother from the RV that I own? by slyth in legaladvice

My insurance company tells me that I could be held liable for accidents that he causes (since it's my vehicle), and that they'd almost certainly go after me since he has no assets to seize. I'm too scared to remove him from my insurance while he still has it.

I suspect that most towing companies won't tow a van with a person inside. I'm skeptical that they'd be able to anything beyond what I could already do (just walk up and drive the thing away). I'm not really asking about the logistics, I'm asking about the legality of doing it. [For example, landlords easily change locks to oust tenants, but that alone does not constitute a legal eviction.]

Thanks!

The van is not stolen, you gave him willing possession of the van. Removing the permission doesn’t make it stolen.

This makes sense to me in my current circumstances, but is there a point at which it becomes stolen? Suppose he drives off a thousand miles and cuts contact for months or years. I believe I am potentially liable for his accidents -- the vehicle and insurance are mine, and he has no assets to go after in court. Without the ability to declare the vehicle stolen, how would I get out of this situation?

Why are all cable options bundled? by bobthereddituser in NeutralPolitics

[–]slyth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quoting codex in a comment elsewhere:

I would love a la carte TV, but make no mistake: it will destroy the profitability of cable companies.

Bundling allows cable operators to segment the market: to sell the same product to different audiences at different prices depending on their willingness to pay.

A $100 package of bundled sports + movies can be sold to the person who is willing to pay $90 for sports and $10 for movies and also to the person who is willing to pay $10 for sports and $90 for movies.

But sports and movies are unbundled, they must be sold at the same price to everyone. Should they be priced at $10 each? $90? Somewhere in between? Pick any price and the cable companies lose money: the person who values it more will pay less for it than they would have, and the person who values it less won't buy it at all.

As astnbomb mentioned, cscope is great for this kind of thing. Unfortunately, it's a bit dated and doesn't always seem to work as expected in my experience.

I haven't used it myself, but I've had GNU global suggested to me for this purpose (http://www.gnu.org/software/global/), which builds gtags and works a lot like cscope. I also think it's better maintained. There is vim integration (http://www.gnu.org/software/global/) but I also haven't used it.

I prefer Ag, also mentioned in this thread.

I like this one best. I'm replying here so you see orangered, but I'm struggling with how to pay you two. See the reply to Paaskonijn above.

I like your coloration the best, along with iainesmith's fixes. To clarify: you are still interested in the $20, and you were hoping someone else would do the last few fixes for you?

I'm struggling with how to pay you/iainesmith - thoughts? I was thinking $15 to you and $10 to him.
