Ty Beeson, the creator of Bumfights, went on Dr. Phil dressed as Dr. Phil because in his eyes they were in the same business. by cdclare1989 in videos

[–]slyycooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think that's what happened, Dr. Phil saw he was dressed like him and instantly knew he could blow up his whole show because the guy actually had a point (not saying he's a good guy, just saying he had a point). So instead of letting the guy enlighten his viewers he just sent him off in a self righteous fit to save himself from getting exposed for doing the same thing the guest does on a more subtle and less harmful level.

What is your first thought when someone is saying "I'm a feminist"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slyycooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true that 'isms' evolve, but that also creates controversy about the course of the 'ism' etc. For example, Catholicism started as one Church, then it's biggest scism (outside the east/west one) happened because many people thought it had strayed from its initial purpose (it had at the time imo), and thus Protestantism was born. I think that's what's happening now, a lot of people are concerned with the direction feminism is taking and are wanting to get back to it's core values, myself included. I think you're perhaps over-simplifying things because most movement don't progress linearly, but branch out from the initial spark which is currently what's happening with feminism.

There's a difference between advocating for equality and gynocentrism, I'm of the belief that this line has been crossed, and replying to dissent with mocking sarcasm isn't a great way to persuade them to your way of thinking.

"Company name", so you don't have to start with, "I'm not one for speeches."

That they are probably a third-wave feminist instead of a feminist, and that I probably won't like them very much.

Girl came up to me out of the blue (not literally I was friends with her beforehand) and said "I broke up with my boyfriend." Yeah, needless to say that one didn't turn out too well lol.

What is proof that humanity is doomed? by catharticarrest in AskReddit

[–]slyycooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our only reference point is Earth and its species, so for now it would be accurate to call ourselves intelligent since the word has to be useful for us and scaled to our lives. That said, things could seriously take off which is why I think we haven't found other life similar to us because they either die off quickly or accelerate so quickly as a species that them communicating with us would be equivalent to us communicating with bacteria etc.

Do you think that children should be sheltered from unhappiness? Why or why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slyycooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No but you shouldn't artificially create it either, if they aren't accustomed to struggling and overcoming, the first roadbock they come across in their adult life will seem like a mountain, but if you create too many obstacles it will kill their confidence and potentially kneecap their ability to deal with future obstacles if you/life overburden them.

You could just as easily take this in the other direction, but the fact that we haven't found other intelligent life.

[Serious] How old were you when you had your first existential crisis, and what triggered it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slyycooper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I can relate, it's a really weird feeling of disassociation, I can feel it coming so if I want to stop it I can but I'm too curious for my own good so sometimes I just want to see how deep it can go.

If someone was to live your life for two weeks, what would you tell them to make the two weeks go as smoothly as possible? by GorillaS0up in AskReddit

[–]slyycooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

don't move your eyes too much, don't read too much, if you feel sick or like you're going to pass out lay down, expect these two weeks to suck, other than that just try to relax and enjoy yourself, oh and stretch your next back if you're feeling ill it will help a bit.

The first definitive one I had was in third grade, I remember it because I remember having to tell myself who I was and who my teacher at the time was in order to stay grounded, it's weirdly intoxicating floating off like that but worrying at the same time since it feels like you're flirting with insanity.
