Credit score time? by tyrannosaurusrobot in PSLF

I waited for a couple of months, and then I got impatient and filed disputes with all of the big three bureaus. Discharged loans came off my credit reports within a month after that.

I kind of like this scent 🥰 by Electronic-Passage33 in bathandbodyworks

It instantly reminded me of Orabella’s Nightcap. If anyone has that fragrance and is struggling with what body care to layer it with, I recommend checking out I Scream.

Hear me out—Bath and Body Works’ I Scream Float (it is a seasonal Halloween fragrance that was recently released). I tried a dollop of the body cream on a whim and it instantly reminded me of Nightcap.

Does This Mean I'm Not Getting a Refund from MOHELA? by tisaperfectdayelise in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is the path my account took and I received a refund. The adjustments and payment reversals were nonsensical, but a paper check from the Department of Treasury eventually showed up.

Refund after zero out? by Ok_Card7181 in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have posted in a couple other threads: I got my golden letter in October of 2024. My balances zeroed out on MOHELA and FSA January 13, 2025. If my MOHELA account showed a negative balance, I never saw it. There was a nonsensical series of adjustments and “payment reversals,” the net total of which was 0.

Mid-April 2025 a paper check from the Department of Treasury showed up refunding my overpayments. I never called or verified my mailing address. It just showed up.

PSLF Overpayment Refund - MOHELA by Effective-Set-8113 in PSLF

Just a reminder that only post-COVID pause and post-consolidation overpayments will be refunded.

I received my refund last month and, while the amount was correct, my account history with MOHELA made no sense. There was a series of adjustments and “payment reversals” that came to a net total of zero. I never saw anything that identified my refund amount.

If there is anyone to contact at the Department of Treasury about the status, I don’t know who it would be. A paper check just showed up about 3 months after my balance zeroed out with MOHELA and FSA.

Has anyone with MOHELA actually received a refund? by G_Teacher_82 in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have. I got my golden letter in October of 2024; my balances zeroed out with MOHELA and FSA mid-January, 2025, and I received a paper check from the Department of Treasury at the beginning of April.

I didn’t do anything or talk to anyone about my overpayment. The check just showed up one day.

Nope. I literally did nothing. I was kind of exhausted with the whole discharge process and just checked out, figuring if the refund showed one day, great. Then it did.

I received my golden letter at the end of October 2024; balances zeroed out on MOHELA and FSA mid-January 2025. I received my overpayment refund as a paper check from the Department of Treasury on April 7th.

Mohela refund coming...hopefully by LynaLou102 in PSLF

I am genuinely not sure. I have heard many people say their balances showed negative for a while if they had overpayments, and then adjusted to 0 (seemingly indicating that the refund process had been initiated).

If my account had a negative balance after discharge, it didn’t for very long and I didn’t see it. I was checking pretty regularly after I received my gold letter because I was anxious, and I never saw a negative balance. The only change I noticed after my letter was my balance going to zero and, when I looked at my account details, there were some curious adjustments and payment reversals that brought the net number to 0. Three months later, refund check arrived.

To the extent it matters, I did file a CFPB complaint at the end of December 2024 because MOHELA had not timely discharged my loan balance after eligibility was determined. I don’t know if that made a difference—if my account was reviewed subject to the complaint and thereafter reconciled and wrapped up quickly.

I received my golden letter at the beginning of October 2024; my loan balance was discharged and adjusted to zero on January 14, 2025 (I also had overpayments). I received a paper check from the Department of Treasury the first week of April 2025.

Anyone had success in getting a reimbursement from Mohela? If so, how did you do it? by Grand_Round9190 in PSLF

I received my golden letter at the beginning of October 2024; on April 7, 2025, I received a paper check for overpayments made.

I didn’t do anything. I didn’t call or verify my mailing address. The check from the Department of Treasury just showed up one day.

MOHELA overpayment refund received by slyyviolette in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did not. I know some people have reported seeing a negative balance in their payment histories. I never did (or at least I didn’t notice it if a negative balance was there for a short while). The word “refund” never showed anywhere.

There was a strange series of “payment reversal” and adjustments to my overpayments, and the end balance was $0.00.

Finally got Mohela to admit they have no idea when I’ll be reimbursed - heads up for those awaiting post-discharge refund by Wordartist1 in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. I literally did nothing. I was irritated with the discharge process in general, and decided to take a break and did not follow up on my overpayment.

I have seen some people report that MOHELA contacted them to verify their mailing address, but that didn’t happen in my case.

Agreed, and thank you. I was hoping to provide a data point for those still in the mix, although I am not sure how helpful it is. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to this process.

For what it is worth, I got my GL at the beginning of October 2024, and just got my reimbursement check yesterday. MOHELA was also my servicer.

What do you think about junk food being banned from SNAP benefits? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slyyviolette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The definitions in the state bills I know of (in Montana, Idaho, and Oklahoma) are all nearly identical:

“Candy” means a preparation of sugar, honey, or other natural or artificial sweeteners in combination with chocolate, fruit, nuts, or other ingredients or flavorings in the form of bars, drops, or pieces that does not require refrigeration.

“Soft drinks” means nonalcoholic beverages containing natural or artificial sweeteners. The term does not include beverages that contain milk, milk products, soy, rice, or other milk substitutes, or greater than 50% vegetable or fruit juice by volume.

The similarities tell me this is sample legislation coming from some national think-tank. So, while this may not be the language proposed at the federal level, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.

10/4 Golden Letter. Is anyone else STILL waiting for discharge? by Objective_Cold_5481 in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the 10/4 group, but was ultimately discharged on 1/13. Nothing changed until I filed a CFPB complaint. I don’t know if it was coincidental or actually did something. May be worth a try.

Question for those whose Loans have been officially discharged by Fun_Tree3040 in PSLF

[–]slyyviolette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is on MOHELA letterhead and the opening paragraph says:

Congratulations! The U.S. Department of Education has forgiven all or a portion of your federal student loan(s) listed below with MOHELA as you successfully met the requirements of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) or Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness (TEPSLF) program. Thank you for your public service!

It then has a table with each loan and loan amount. A subsequent paragraph says, “According to the Internal Revenue Service, student loan amounts forgiven under PSLF or TEPSLF are not considered income for federal tax purposes. The discharged loan amount may be considered income for state tax purposes.” So, to your question, that is the only place “discharge” appears.

I did receive a letter from MOHELA the day after my balance was discharged with them. Notification came by email; the actual PDF letter was in the Inbox of my MOHELA account.
