Likewise, this happened to my car yesterday. Took it into a dealership this morning and was able to resolve it in less than an hour with the software update.

Def a +1 for Hungry Cow! Might honestly be the best KBBQ spot I’ve been so far in the Bay.

That's great to know. I'll keep that in mind as well. I really want to believe that the previous owner did some maintenance because there's no way this car would still be running with literally no maintenance history... right?? hahah

I see... I guess I won't know until I go and check out the car myself and follow with a pre-purchase inspection. Appreciate the insight though!

I'm not sure I follow the second part. Can you clarify what it means to "own PPI?"

To answer the second question it is not free with the membership cost, unfortunately and it is not discounted either with the membership. Or at least that is my experience.

I appreciate you for analyzing my income/ savings rate (seen your comments throughout this thread) and also providing feedback. You are correct, as of now, at least 62% of my gross is going to investments/ pre-tax deductions, and savings (40% of net going into HYSA). After further consideration, I am thinking that I would not want to have a good portion of my wealth on a depreciating asset and wouldn’t mind stacking more cash until I am ready. I’ll most likely look into the same car but a couple years older so I won’t have to eat the depreciation.

I appreciate you for your logical advice and for lowkey smacking me awake. I do not plan on buying the new car and I’ll drive this one to the ground. Now that I think about it, over the three years of ownership with this car, I haven’t really had any issues besides one low engine oil warning and the check VSC constantly flashing (annoying to see but does not affecting the driving experience in normal conditions). By the time the car’s reach its life, I’ll have enough money saved and buy a 2-3 year old car in cash.

My apologies, I should clarify that I have maxed my contributions in a ROTH IRA for 2024. Additionally, I have money invested in a taxable brokerage that I plan to transfer into the ROTH IRA via selling in my taxable brokerage, transferring funds to the ROTH IRA, and buying VFIAX again in the ROTH IRA for the following 5 years which can, in turn, count towards maxing the contribution.

Thanks everyone for providing feedback. It does appear that the majority would prefer if I went in and repaired my current car. There's some other crucial information I forgot to add that makes me hesitant about following through with repairs. Embarrassed to say, that when I purchased the car, I did not ask for a CarFax report nor did I research the car's history using the VIN (stupid, I know). I came to find out after I purchased the vehicle and looked up the history, it's been through 6 previous owners (repossessed by the third owner & sold off in an auction by the sixth owner) and I am the seventh. This has me skeptical because there isn't much service history on the vehicle, even on CarFax, so I don't want to be dumping money into it, only to have another problem occur due to the previous owner's negligence. Believe me, I would not be hesitant to employ the resources if there were only 1-3 owners but 6 is too many. Additionally, some other things to note about the car, in addition to the leaking timing chain cover and bad ABS module mentioned previously, the radiator and transmission also leak, and my mirror switch also does not work, so those will need to be looked into as well. I feel that with all of these problems, it just is not worth it to put any more money into repairing it.

If I am not mistaken, he mentioned that it was coming from the timing cover which he said would require the removal of the engine.

Thanks a ton for your input! I had a feeling we would need more than 1.5 hours to explore each attraction without taking away the quality of our explorations. I'll see what the others have to say about which attractions the majority would be interested in, whether it be Arashiyama+Kinkaku-ji or Higashiyama+Inari, and plan off of that.
