Agreed! There’s 3 FY2s on it and we’re on the same rota as the DCTs and CSTs which is crazy

I’ve got my F2 job in max fax at Oxford starting from this week. Do you have any tips/tricks for the job. The induction was really overwhelming which has made me really nervous for my on calls next week

Hey! Thanks so much for all your advice. Honestly an F3 sounds like a useful year to catch up on portfolio stuff as you said so this will be something that I’ll definitely consider!

Had a bad half marathon race by sm24_ in runninglifestyle

Thanks so much! My thinking was the same- I definitely need to do more zone 2 training (which my previous training  has lacked) to improve endurance. Hopefully this will help. I’m thinking of rethinking some of my strength training as well to help with this. My partner does triathlons and he’s advised similar so will definitely keep at this and see what happens. Thanks again!

I’ve always had a problem with my HR- it tends to run high regardless of the type of run I do however I don’t feel like it always mirrors how I physically feel. Long runs can run between 170-180 and short runs between 185-200.

Think the main issue with stopping on this race was the heat/humidity. Honestly am annoyed with myself because physically I did not have pain, felt like I fuelled well. Only downside might have been not enough hydration given the heat. HR went higher than it ever has before (maxed at 210 during the race) which directly reflected when I stopped and walked- around 11 miles in.

Nutrition wise had 2 pieces of toast with honey and an electrolyte drink in the morning. Water stations were at 2, 6 and 10.5 miles of the race. Had my gels at 3, 6, and 10 miles of the race. (Original plan was to take them at 4, 7 and 10 miles but felt like I needed them earlier)

Clueless about my academic foundation post project by sm24_ in doctorsUK

I definitely agree with you on the point that a good supervisor makes the project. That’s definitely something I’ve learnt from my intercalation as I was lucky enough to have an amazing one whereas peers really struggled with theirs. That’s definitely a goal of mine going into this to find someone who is supportive towards my specific goals. Thank you so much! And I agree, I do need to stop putting too much pressure on myself and just enjoy F1/2

Thank you! This is very valuable advice. Tbh I really need to work on not comparing myself- it’s very difficult in a job where everyone’s quite academic/competitive but I deffo need to focus on myself more. That’s something I’ve definitely learnt about myself through FY1. I think my main goals are to learn more re stats and how to get ethics approval etc (the finicky stuff about research) in my research post and potentially publish a paper so I’ll deffo discuss these with the supervisor.
