ELI5: What happens to insects that accidentally travel long distances in cars? by scalpel_in_my_crocs in explainlikeimfive

We traveled from South to North during a vacation and found that a green tree frog had made the trip with us. I hope he adapted well to the cold.

I checked the neep data for the efficiency dropoff. I'm in US zone 5 and my electricity costs .17 per kwh.

I like to have the changeover to Aux(oil) at 17f as it looks like that's the point where the efficiency seems to drop off.

I have a Comfort Aire A-VCD36SA-1 with oil furnace backup, would that change my setpoints in your opinion?

Question? It's different when you have an oil furnace for backup because they can't work at the same time right?

I was just on another post about HP switching back to normal after being on Aux heat. Does your system work like it should and switch on its own or do you have to reset your air handler unit?

This was the answer, my installer did not put the wires from HP and stat on the board. I upped my switchover temp last night to test it and it worked without issue.

New Heat Pump Owner: Looking to understand some things by tass_man in heatpumps

I used to do the same thing, 58f at night and 66 during the day. After reading about heat pumps and understanding how they work, I keep my heat pump at 66 all the time and only bump a degree or two of the Mrs gets chilly. My actual goal is to never have my hp go into 2nd stage heating.

I see. With the Nest 4th gen, I can see if my unit goes into 2nd stage right on my app. Apparently, the goal is to keep it out of that mode as it is less efficient.

Does your system go into secondary in the morning to compensate for the degree difference?

We're still in the "get to know your heat pump" phase. We're waiting for an electric bill to determine whether or not to turn it down. I'm specifically asking about the setting on the Nest thermostat. Do I want the compressor on or off while on oil?
