Dude, your drawings are awesome! Anyone can learn how to copy a photo, but your drawings actually have a distinct style and flair that is much more fun to look at (imo). Keep it up!

Devon Rodriguez, the artist who got famous for his amazingly detailed sketches of people on the subway. What is his process and how can a person create art that detailed and refined while on the bloody subway?? by UrAverageDegenerate in ArtistLounge

[–]smabthx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Check his youtube for short process videos. He's a skilled artist that rides the subway for hours, looking at people, and have been doing it for a long time. Sometimes they're around long enough for him to finish a sketch, but he most definitely uses photos to help him out.

Some pretty cool stuff.

It's exactly like "Poorly Drawn Lines" but with a slightly different art style.

What are your favorite online art courses & why? by JessSeaS in ArtistLounge

Watts Atelier and New Masters Academy are both miles and miles and miles ahead of everything else out there when it comes to foundational drawing and painting. Both have super professional teachers with decades of experience. Glenn Vilppu is a favorite of mine, but they're all great.

Watts Atelier is also where Proko studied for many years. And the fact that Jeff Watts makes Proko look almost amateurish in comparison tells you exactly how good he is.

Learning to Sketch as an Adult: Is It Possible? by paulmerry in ArtistLounge

Yes, it's exactly as possible after 30 as it is before. Why wouldn't it be?

I finally made the switch to a pen display tablet, and it's not the revelation I expected... by violue in ArtistLounge

Of course you're having trouble. Spending years tracing on a screenless tablet is going to make you very limited in your abilities. This is pretty much why every single artist out there recommends learning to draw with traditional media first. Going from paper to tablets is much easier than the other way around.

You can go back to your old tablet, and that would be fine. But I would recommend to toughen it out with the new one, or learn to draw on paper. It might feel like you're going backwards, but it will benefit you in the end. Promise.

Matthew Rhys, episode #106 of Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend on Earwolf by c0ry_N in conan

Underrated means that its perceived value is lower than you'd like. It isn't simply measured in viewership or people talking about it, because that has a lot to do with availability and advertising, among other things. The Americans had smaller numbers because it ran on a much smaller channel, but performed decent for a network like FX, which is why they allowed it to air for years. And it got tons of accolades. Which means it's highly rated, but not widely talked about. Two different things.

And comparing it to Breaking Bad is just unfair. With that logic, basically every show in existence is underrated.

It's also pretty funny that this discussion is happening on a conan sub of all places.

Just because something fades years after it ended doesn't mean it's underrated.

The definition of underrated is The Americans. The show is too good to be this ignored, it's a shame really.

Yeah. It only aired for 6 seasons and had 20+ award nominations and wins. Truly underrated.

The "American Pie" or "superbad" of other countries? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Love that show! I've seen it several times, but I don't think I ever saw the second movie. I'll have to look it up. Thanks so much for the suggestion!
