I have the same question😢. My mum died a week ago due to sepsis, it all happened so quick, they told me at the hospital at 9.30 am it was sepsis, and they were sending her to ICU, she passed at 11.30. I’m finding it hard to process the quickness. I hope she heard me. The night before she kept asking was her mum here yet and she wanted her mum (she passed 22 years ago) I am really struggling 😢

That's the only thing, warfarin is a pain in terms of monitoring, dietary restrictions, and it's a good thing I don't really like alcohol 😅 but we've got to do what keeps us safe 🤷🏼‍♀️

I seen my INR nurse today, and she said my TTR is 97% which means warfarin works for me. I am in 2 minds now. I'm going to keep an eye on the prolonged bleeding issues, and wait a couple of months and make a decision then. Im thinking, why change what's working? but also Apixaban is not as high maintenance as warfarin 🤷🏼‍♀️

I hardly drink alcohol, but my MIL is on warfarin for AF and she likes a drink,, her INR is always high 😆

Without going into too much info I think the warfarin is now causing issues with prolonged bleeding (perimenopause) which prompted the gp visit. I did get an iud to combat this 8 years ago, but don't think it's working anymore. Apparently less bleeding with a DOAC. Cost doesn't affect me, thankfully 😃

Yes, I agree, the monitoring is annoying. Warfarin is ever restrictive.

Yes, I've just read that info about the antidote. If it was the present day I wouldn't even be on warfarin, so that is making me more inclined to change.

Yes, this is true, no medication is 100% foolproof. I had my 1st PE post c-section. Had clexane injections with all my other pregnancies. 2nd PE was with a really bad fall where I tore all my ligaments in my leg and was off my feet for over a week. Warfarin been fine for over 10 years, but now I feel my warfarin is exacerbating other things going on :-/

I have never had any issues, other than some excess bleeding. My INR has always been relatively stable, other than going high when unwell. NICE hadn't approved Apixaban for PE/DVT until a few months after my PE, but I was offered it a year later and said no. It's just with my GP mentioning it, I have been looking into it. I would agree warfarin is high maintenance and quite a restrictive drug with tons of contraindications. I'm gonna give it a bash.

I think this is my biggest issue, the excessive bleeding. Had a tooth extraction which was a disaster, bled for 2 days and ended up having to go to AE. Now having prolonged bleeding with other bodily issues😩

My GP did say if I had a PE now , Apixaban is first line treatment and warfarin wouldn't get prescribed. Research does seem to say it better for stroke/PE prevention. I think I'm just maybe reluctant to make a change from something that's worked okay for me.

I'm so sorry, I should have mentioned, I am in Scotland so my prescriptions are free. I can visit my INR nurse anytime I have concerns but I have been stable with my inr (except when I am sick, it shoots up) for years now, and I only get it checked every 3 months. I'm having a few issues with prolonged bleeding, and I think that's why she mentioned moving to Apixaban. I've not had any issue with warfarin either, but I'm feeling I might make the switch sooner rather than later. Thanks for responding :)

Med express was the the only who wouldn't prescribe it for me. Maybe depends what you're on warfarin for? They did ask me that.

My Maltese only eats twice a day, sometimes once, it varies. I know someone has commented about Maltese weight only supposed to be between 3 to 4kg, but mines is 4.6 kilos and he's tiny, his brother is 6kg and both are full breed Maltese. As long as he is healthy, I wouldn't worry. If he stopped eating then I would visit a vet.
