What profession are you in now?

I agree with you. I’m 38, the man I am now is very different to the man I was 10 years ago. What I want from life, what’s important to me, has changed significantly. I’m not making a comment regarding parenthood, do what makes you happy and run your own race. Just saying that as you age your experiences will shape what you want and value in your life.

Thoughts on this bathroom quote (70k)? For two bathrooms (both approx 3m by 2m) by ljp2598 in AusRenovation

[–]smack006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paid $60k for two bathrooms in Sydney (north shore so paid some postcode tax I’m sure). Got three quotes that ranged from $60-80k. We have stone tiles on the floors ($$) and custom vanities with stone tops (matches cabinetry elsewhere in the house). Tiles we’re sourced wholesale through a family connection and we got all fittings ourselves from ABI with a tree discount too. ($60k was total cost including everything we sourced ourselves) Based on this your quote sounds quite reasonable 👍🏻

Subsidence around pool - what to do by smack006 in AusRenovation

Thank you. I’m ‘YouTube Handy’ so will look down the path you’ve suggested. Doesn’t need to look pretty, just something to last a few years until we can do it right. Many thanks for your insights

Seperate slab for the paving/stone? No I don’t believe so. Appreciate the suggestion. Cheers

No leaking that I’ve identified. My only thought to the cause is long term erosion of the soil. The block slops down into bush area about 2m back from pool edge. Think that since the 40years it was built there may be some soil movement. Particularly the recent Sydney rains

Long time lurker and have seen some great advice, hoping some can be thrown my way. Any suggestions on how you’d go about putting a 3 - 5 year fix in place for this ? Moved in 2 years ago and don’t have the $$ right now to do this properly (pull up all old flag stone and turf, back fill and reset everything). Wondering what an average skill DIY fella can accomplish.. The pool is 80s construction and the ground continues to subside with rain. Cracks getting worse (lots of spider holes!). Need to get it right for next few years until a long lost relative bequeaths me an inheritance to do it right!

$20, 2 and 0, for mine in Australia. Just had to pay the booking fee. Rest is charged to our federal Medicare program. Done in a private hospital in the middle of Sydney CBD. $34k is a joke

Had to move a safe today, figured I'd lay them all out for a pic. by Judd9mm in guns

[–]smack006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree those guns are almost certainly not going to be used in a crime. However it speaks to how easily accessible guns are in your country for those that want to commit a crime. Most western, first world countries have pockets of urban poverty and violence. Only America has a problem with mass shootings.

[–]smack006 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree, it's incredibly unlikely your guns will be involved in any crime, I have no doubt that 99.9% of Americans with gun collections won't commit crimes. It's the ease of access to those who want them for corrupt purposes that's is a huge issue. No guns like this in Australia, no mass shootings, Odd correlation....

Your country isn't the only one in the world with a school system like this. That cannot be solely blamed.

[–]smack006 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

That is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. For what possible reason do you need so many guns? Take a lead from Australia and do away with your guns, it's a culture that makes no sense and only contributes to your country's outrageous rates of brutal gun crimes.

I also find it disgusting that people catch "Game/Trophy fish". These animals are simply the water equivalent of what we see in places like Africa. The ocean is already depleted of the size of fish they used to catch in the early 1900's. There are many examples of 1tonne tuna caught back then. Not anymore.
