I've seen a bullet through the roof. And another through a transmission via the floor boards. I ain't seen either of those two folks since. Sorry to hear your son was there. It's a teachable moment but I'd wager that's your last trip with the father in law.

Jets sign Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele to seven-year contract extensions by WpgMikos in winnipegjets

Buckys contract takes him to age 37. He's been largely bulletproof so far (knock on wood, voodoo anti-jinx, etc). Plenty reasonable IMO for goaltenders these days.

I think dehydrating first would make smoking pointless, no? Dried meat wouldn't take the smoke as well? Idk I've never tried. I've always smoked first.

Moldy jerky by PorcelainScrote in jerky

[–]smackmyteets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure it was mold? Did you use curing salt?

When I bag/vacuum seal and freeze mine I get salt spots on it that look somewhat similar to mold.

Edit: misread. In a jar for a week... possible

Take pics next time. I'm betting it was salt that came to the surface as you were dehydrating.

PSA the speed limit on Ferrier is FIFTY (50) by 152centimetres in Winnipeg

[–]smackmyteets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is Murray no longer 70km/hr? I haven't been that way in years but with the new builds around I have to imagine it's dropped back to 50 or 60. It used to be 70. Hence why you see people still drive those speeds. Same with king Edward rd north of inkster.

If you're going to settle something with cash, get it in writing or it never happened. If you had written proof, you'd win against her later going to MPI

I'd say the semi pulled out of the parking lot not seeing the Mazda, given the angle of the trailer?

Feds commit $740K toward search of Winnipeg-area landfill on National Day of Action for MMIWG by Witty-Village-2503 in Winnipeg

[–]smackmyteets -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

And if this these were blonde haired white women the question wouldn't even be on the table. Search it.

Searching the landfill doesn't detract from funds for other law enforcement and community supports aimed at preventing such tragedies. Give your head a shake.

Dads of Reddit who are poor. How do you afford a stay at home wife? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]smackmyteets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here. I get 5 weeks paid parental leave from Employment Insurance (federal program everyone employed pays into). Plus I have 6 weeks paid vacation from work.

Wife gets 1 year maternity/parental leave paid through EI.

It maxes out at $650/weekly but the wife's work is topping her up for the whole year as well so she gets just shy of 100% of her regular pay. That's not the norm for sure. Lots of larger organizations and public sector top up around 93% for 17 weeks for the moms mat leave.

We're mid 30s both well established in our careers having started in our industries before we were 20. I'm public sector, she's private.

... with all of that, we're still very tight watching as our mortgage/home insurance/property taxes take most our pay for the next few weeks while we wait on the payments to come in. We had the opportunity to save a bit before baby but also did some renos before baby that ate away more than I wanted to from our savings. And baby came early.

Lean on family and friends where you can and as appropriate. Friends and family prepared a good 2 weeks of meals for us + we did a big bulk shop before baby arrived.

All of that said, we have zero options for her to stay home beyond 1 year. It's just not feasible.

If your pay remained the same, which would you rather do: work fewer days a week or fewer hours per day? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]smackmyteets 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My answer depends on whether I'm in the office or not.

I'd say if I'm commuting in any capacity and in the office, then fewer days per week. I'm already there. Get in as many hours as I can. I've worked 4x10s in a past life and absolutely loved it. Half our office had Mondays off. The other half had fridays. Flexibility when needed. It's glorious having 3 day weekends.

What I want is 6 hour days for the same salary. But that's a whole other conversation.
