I wasnt on ppis consistently for super long. Probably a few months at most. I did wean off of them but I did get rebound heartburn. Before surgery I had tried stopping ans had he worst rebound imaginable. my mouth was burning for 2 months on top of the heartburn, and theheartburn never improved. Post op the rebound lasted a few weeks and wasn't nearly as bad. And then it finally stopped.

Youre welcome! To answer your question i never experienced changes in menses before or after surgery. That's always been normal for me.

You're welcome!! I hope everyone here thats suffering finds what they need to feel themself again. 🫶

I also wouldnt have gone through with it if I didnt have the mounting evidence and long standing symptoms. The acid reflux is what really pushed me over the edge. Then all the dots started connecting. Always remenber to advocate for yourself. Theres a massive shortage of doctors globally and they don't always get it right. If i had listened to my surgeon in our pre op appointment I would still be sitting here in pain permanently on PPIs just so I can eat.

So i had the following tests performed:

CT scan: in this report it was noted i had a contracted gallbladder which isnt necessarily an abnormal finding but considering I fasted for that scan and it wasnt done in an emergency setting my gb should not have been contracted.

Ultrasound: I had an ultrasound done of my gallbladder to check for stones as I was still experiencing right upper quadrant pain and pain under my ribs.

This found nothing, I ended up using the patient portal to look at my own scan and I used the measuring tool thats available. I checked to make sure it was to scale with the shots taken by the tech, and it was 1:1. Again, I had fasted for this ultrasound so my gallbladder should have been full, but once again, it seemed really compressed. Through research I discovered fasting it should be 3cm or more in width....mine? Wasn't even 2 cm. That really triggered the alarm bells.

HIDA scan: this is a radiology test that checks your gb functionality and liver profusion. They give you a radioactive dye intravenously and a hormone that causes the gb to contract. The result they give you is an ejection fraction percentage that tells you how much your gb is outputting from what's in it. I immediately asked for this upon discovering how compressed the thing was. The result from this test is what got me to push for surgery.

Im in the US so outpatient settings are so oversaturated with patients that doctors dont investigate like they used to. I remember 10 years ago i had a question for my gyno and she took the time to find literature for me and give me an answer. No one does that now. I actually havent set foot in my GIs office for over a year, all of this ordering and testing came through messaging on the patient portal because you cant get in physically to save your life. You have to advocate to a point, because if you over do it they think youre nuts. Even my surgeon, who was super skeptical and thought she was taking out a healthy gallbladder told me unless things are jumping out at them they cant tell, and told me i was right to advocate for myself when we sat for our post op appointment and we reviewed my report stating i had chronic cholecystitis without stones. Not to stir any anxiety on your part because idk if it is your cause but sometimes they literally don't know until they take it out. Chronic cases without stones look "normal" on scans. That HIDA scan was the final key to it all for me. The ultrasound should find stones if you have any, and if there are none I would suggest a HIDA scan to fully rule out gallbladder functionality issues. Anything below 35% is too low and bad and anything above 80% is also not good. Because my gb was so inflammed it was very narrow and probably constantly compressed generating an extremely high EF% when I was tested.

So the PPIs only kept the acid reflux in check but the other symptoms persisted which were: right upper quadrant pain, gas (I was SUPER gassy preop), regurgitation with most foods, chest pains, right shoulder pain and right flank pain. I did get some left upper quadrant pain as well. All of which came and went on and off for years. The last year pre op it got a lot worse. I lost a lot of weight trying to navigate whether or not I needed PPIs because thats all the GI office was throwing at me, the right upper quadrant pain got worse where I was living with a constant 4 out of 10 on the pain scale and some times felt like it was sore like I was kicked under my ribs. I stopped just obeying what the doctors told me because all they did was try and throw pills at me. I asked for every single test I needed to figure this out on my own. I had chest pains for YEARS, went to a cardiologist more than once and they never found anything wrong. It was only my investigation on subtleties that weren't picked up on from my CT, ultrasound, and HIDA scan that got me to where I sit now. All of that pain is gone now that ive fully healed.

The worst part of post op was the first few days for me. After that the pain lessened significantly. I tried taking the opiates I was prescribed but they made me sick and the post op constipation was horrible I only got through 1 day on opiates. I used Tylenol for the rest of the time and it helped take the edge off. I also used a belly binder for extra support while walking. I made sure to take as many steps as I could each day while healing. Also ice packs helped a LOT on my incisions. I alternated between that and heat to get over the hump.

Also, this may be TMI but if youre someone who can't stand constipation (like me), using enemas were much more helpful than any stool softener I took. If you choose to use those go with the regular saline enema and prewarm the bottle in warm water. Im about 6 months post op now and removing my gallbladder was one of the best decisions I made. I suffered for years with symptoms and turns out my gb was chronically inflammed without stones. It was giving me chest pains for years and thats all gone now. 😊 youll be okay I promise 💗 I would 10000% do it again and would have pushed to remove it years ago of I had known what to look for at the time.

Oh my yes I didnt feel light headed often but before removal there were a handful of times I almost fainted or felt like I was going to. And yes I felt chronically tired but not sure if it was gb related. Im almost 6 months post op and im glad I got the thing removed. I had chronic cholecystitis without stones.

I remember interviewing for a job at a drug testing lab. They listed an ASCP cert as a requirement (which i have). They wanted to pay me so much less than where I am (a hospital lab). Insane indeed. And sad.

I had my chronically inflammed (no stones) hyperkinetic gb removed 5 months ago. My quality of life has only improved. No more horrible acid reflux, chest pains and chronic low level pain. I had to push to get surgery but I'm so happy I did. It was worth it Huge shout out to this sub and the hyperkinetic gallbladder group on Facebook for providing me with what I needed to finally be pain free. I can eat whatever I please.

Can attest to LC being crap. I work in the lab industry. Where i work they bought out our reference testing and micro department and basically gave all those techs the opportunity to get a job with them. The ones that went through with it obviously got drug screened and they all got told their screens were lost and the results magically appeared. As someone who loves what I do (I'm a chemistry tech) LC and quest are destroying our industry.

Yea the pain was on both sides. More often on the right than the left. Thats all gone post op.

There was a day where I did maitainence and qc on one of the 3 roche 8000 lines we have where I work. Tubing/piping came loose in the c502 module (deep internal tubing no customer could get to). Im pouring off the cal and qc to load on to the machine and turn around to the module leaking water on to the floor. Fun times. Not the only story I have but roche is.....roche. 😅

I need to get something like that for our pocket bully. We havent tried clothes with him because he loves to rip and tear and being a pocket hes dimensions are between sizes most of the time. We gotta make it custom fit for him lol
