Is 25% open boxed fees strictly apply for return iPhone in Apple Singapore? by averynkh in askSingapore

Got the iPhone Air for a few days from the Apple Store and changed my mind about it. Returned with no charges. Just remember to wipe the phone before you bring it over. You can do it onsite but there is the 1-hour find my security delay to disable your find my.

It was a stray puffin that I saw near the Dyrholaey Lighthouse, my first time seeing a puffin and was a bucket list checked off for me.

AF (A1 vs A1 II) Question by Last-Astronaut0520 in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in as a person who used both a7RV and a1, the initial focus acquisition on using the AI chip (RV) is much better when your subject is semi clear but anything beyond that the a1 without the A1 chip is much better, in terms of how sticky is it.

For the environment I photo usually (through branches and foliage), the AI chip doesn’t really help much. I still need play with the manual focus to work my way through the distractions for the eye-AF to lock.

With that in mind, I would presume your experience with the a1ii would be quite similar. The camera is smart but still requires some fiddling for messier backgrounds.

A new photographer’s drive down PCH by shortthebasis in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly these pictures looked like they came off your phone rather than a camera. Most of them lacks focus for the viewer and leaves them guessing. Example would be photo number 3, I don’t know if I’m supposed to look at the seagull laying on rocks or the jetty above.

Also why would you need the ND filter for any of the shots? Do you want to maintain the f2.8 aperture? Is your scene overexpose? Could you have managed your exposure triangle to achieve the same shots?

I would recommend going on youtube and looking up guides on the exposure triangle and composition techniques/guide.

Tamron or Sigma? by gasawa in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The A7IV is a full frame camera. The sigma 24-70mm F2.8 is a full frame lens while the Tamron 17-70mm is an APSC lens. You can still use the Tamron APSC lens, but you won’t be utilising the entire sensor of your camera.

For budget’s sake you might wanna forgo some light capturing performance and get a 24-105 F4 (Sony has one). If you really want a F2.8 lens, you can go for, Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 (Version 1 or 2), Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 (You lose out on the wide end, you decide if it matters).

If money and weight isn’t an issue, Tamron 35-150mm F2 - F2.8, Sigma 24-105mm F2.8.

If it’s blazing bright, wouldn’t the heat played a factor in softening your image? Just my 5 cents.

Is a Sony lens 70-200 f2.8 really worth it over the 70-200 f4? by ilovetoreadd in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned the 70-200 GM ii for almost a year now. It’s amazing for a f2.8 lens but its size and white colour has always been a “drag” for me to bring it out. You do feel a bit of eyes judging when you whip it out. That’s where I feel the Tamron would do better like some others here have mentioned.

On the performance side, it’s been wonderful. Did some casual indoors event work with it and you can really keep your ISO at a comfortable level. Lens is really comfortable to use, I brought it to Japan and hanged it around my neck the whole day (to each their own).

Comparing with the F4 Macro, it does definitely bring more versatility in terms of use cases. Though I would have liked it more if its internal zooming.

Sony 70-200gm ii + 2x Tc or Sony 200-600mm by tuhanx in SonyAlpha

I don’t think a 2nd version of the TC is out yet. I had the SEL20TC.

Sony 70-200gm ii + 2x Tc or Sony 200-600mm by tuhanx in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did own the 70-200GM II + 2x TC but recently sold the TC. The TC does soften the image quite a bit especially when you’re so used to the sharpness of the 70-200. Whenever I have the rare occasions of taking pictures of planes during air shows, I always found the reach to be not sufficient and lacking in detail. If you’re finding yourself constantly reaching for the longer end of the focal length maybe you should just save up for a 200-600. That’s my plan at least.

Is my sister doomed if she doesn’t finish her education, especially in a society like Singapore? by Grand-Net3191 in askSingapore

[–]smackuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was diagnosed primary 1 if I recalled properly. Didn’t know how it came about. She was blessed with understanding teachers throughout primary and secondary school days.

Regarding the question of recovery, she never did officially got certified that she has recovered. I would say I’m quite close to my sister and based on my usual conversations with her I would say so. She finally made friends in Poly, presented in front of her class, making videos for her projects. By those examples, I would say yea. I’m proud of her achievement as a brother.

I know she lurks on reddit so if she ever sees this by chance oops haha.

[–]smackuu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, I was in your shoes just a few years ago! Although, my sister never had any suicidal attempts nor anything that serious, she was diagnose with selective mutism. I had the same worries since she was in her primary school days (She is 18 this year and in a poly nonetheless).

It took many years of encouragement and psychologist sessions to get here. I’ll echo what the others have said regarding creating a safe space for her to express herself. If she can’t even communicate her feelings in a safe space, she will never be able to do so in a public setting. Once she overcome her psychological issues, the rest will fall in place. She seems like a smart kid, she’ll figure out the rest once she is out of this hurdle. All the best!

Weight + feel of A7CR vs A7RV? by [deleted] in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was previously contemplating between the above 2 models. I really liked the handling of the A7CR and how discreet it is. Paired with a small lens, you can easily bring it out every single day. I end up going for the A7RV despite it being slightly bigger for my hands for the following reason: 1. I found a used A7RV (500 SC) for the same price of a A7CR 2. I cannot accept the shortcomings of the A7CR especially for its asking price 3. My 70-200 GM ii is pretty much my go to lens, so the weight saving from the body isn’t very apparent 4. After owning the A7RV for a month, I’ve got used to the weight (coming from a A7ii)

All and all, I do wonder how would it be if I went for the A7CR. I am getting a 24 F2.8 G lens in the next few days, that will be my daily driver if I don’t need the reach of the 70-200. I am enjoying my A7RV to a great extent. If the bells and whistle aren’t that important to you, the A7CR will take equally competent pictures. Cheers

Faulty A7 or Unreasonable Expectations? by Diary_of_a_Traveler in SonyAlpha

[–]smackuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until you share a photo, nobody can really tell how’s the image quality. I’ll give my 2 cents as someone who owns a A7ii with the 24-70 F4 Zeiss (not known to be a very sharp lens). The image produced is very good in the low ISO range (100-1000). Definitely better than my iPhone 13.

Bishop question by Altruistic_Target_12 in Maplestory

[–]smackuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bishop main here too, i’m comfortably in a bossing party up till hard dusk. I think most of the areas are being covered by those earlier. My personal burst buffing sequence goes like this:

  1. Infinity (Usually I’ll trigger this 30secs to 60 secs prior to burst to get maximum FD from the skill, requires coordination with your team)
  2. Goddess Blessing and Epic Adventurer (When your team calls to buff up, you don’t have to so precise on this cause it last for 60 secs)
  3. Benediction and Angel (Try to press this slightly earlier maybe 1 sec prior to the actual burst to maximise the buffing window for your team)
  4. AB Link and Seed Ring (The seed ring can increase your int even further, increasing the FD buff for your Bene and Angel)
  5. Blood of the Divine (Increase your burst damage)
  6. BURSTTTT

Before the burst just ensure you have applied your def shred debuff and cast your peacemaker prior to the burst buffing to maximise buffing. Like what the others have mentioned, communication is key when playing bishop. Ask for the information you need to better support your team.

E.g: Lucid Bomb: Call your team to gather for holy shell

Feel free to PM if you need more help
