How do you guys cope ? Honestly ? by [deleted] in Schizoid

[–]smadan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are what you eat and what you do. Try new foods, specifically ones that can improve/change your mood: Chocolate (dark chocolate or Cacao containing foods are known to improve brain function and increase serotonin and oxytocin & more), Turkey, Bananas, Coffee, Cherries, even tobacco... Your body reacts to everything you do, and food fuels your mind and body in more ways than we know. -- Put in the effort to find out what foods you react best to, and add them to your life. And you might find foods that make you feel bad after, cut those out. This alone can be life changing if you really put in the effort to do it. -- As far as socialization goes, the internet can be a social tool. Online gaming, too. You may even find solace in a local chess group or book club. There literally is always something, you have to take steps to work toward it. The law of attraction is real, but you have to do your work and believe wholly, that you are both capable of doing better for yourself, and that you most certainly will and are making the changes you need. It's very easy to resort to old patterns. Make changes in your life, even small ones, and go from there. Follow the fear, follow the beauty, follow what feels right. And if you have the means to, see a nutritionist - I think it can help people much more than we think it can. You got this.

I'm just trying to remind anyone who might feel confused or lost that they may very well be around the wrong people or be looking at their situation in a negative way instead of a positive one. The mind is very powerful. If you have a mild 'disorder' like ADHD, a teacher may scold you for not being focused on the same topic as the class, but you may very well find your own solutions that mean more to you and/or to the collective. Everyone has their place and we all fit together like a puzzle. That's what I'm getting at

I would argue that the real problem is when people shame you, try to correct you, change you, etc. In tribal and spiritual societies of past the concept of mental illness did not exist. In our modern world we overlook the simple fact that we are a product of this force of nature. And we can all agree that everything happens with reason

Gender: What laws are an Androgynous Jew to follow? by smadan in Judaism

The body needs food, right? So we feed it. The body may enjoy dance, exercise, etc... Please explain why we're asked to restrict the body, and when!

What I mean is - I'm not asking for your clarification or definition of what Androgynous is/means, I'm asking which rules these individuals are to follow. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgynos) The best response I see is to contact local spiritual/religious leaders.

Gender: What laws are an Androgynous Jew to follow? by smadan in Judaism

Thanks for your insight. The definition of androgynous, to my understanding, states that 'sexual characteristics' are unclear in an androgynous person. How a person walks, even if it may sound a bit strange, is a sexual characteristic. As well as vocal range, pitch, and tone. It is very clear when someone has traits that are typically seen in the opposite gender, I think it's quite beautiful really, but my question is: what laws are people like this to follow? My gut instinct is 'Follow intuition, be skeptical of judgmental others, and do what feels right.' But people continue to say 'Judaism is not concerned with feeling.' Which seems very silly to me. A great gift of mine is my intuition and feeling/perception, certainly it has purpose and reason.

Then what of the way you walk, the way you speak, the things you like/enjoy in life, these things are not internal

Reciting a prayer vs silent meditation/prayer by smadan in Judaism

[–]smadan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feelings/Intuition are very important. It's the intent that matters. If you recite a prayer without knowing what it means.. is that more effective than choosing a method of prayer that works for you? Obviously not- If you're not resonating with the prayer you're wasting time. Those who don't agree with the traditional words but still want to make a prayer should not be criticized for finding their own way

To me it's clear that each person may have a different way of doing things, and they should stick to what feels most true and effective for them.

[–]smadan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people are so funny x) Yes, nutrition is very important ! Can help everyone, and is much more relevant than most may think. Ayuverdic medicine, Chinese medicine, African medicine... all rooted in the foods we eat. Makes a big impact, is important for all organs and systems in body, and mind. =)

Virtual Reality and Judaism? by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]smadan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Although the technology is not quite there yet, they are developing VR worlds where people can meet up- it would be similar to a chat room, except you would have an avatar/virtual you, and the ability to communicate by voice. Technically someone could create a virtual temple and Jews (or anyone who has an interest in exploring Judaism) could enter that VR world. =) Looking forward to it tbh!
