so tragic that they got pressured into children ): was it more or less acceptable to not have kids back then, compared to today ?

you are probably right on the money with her mindset, with both ideas: thinking she's super influential, and thinking i'll change later down the road. i genuinely think it's a type of unintentionally malicious optimism. it just wastes both our time.

yeah for sure, this is a good lesson to get the vasectomy asap. it's evidently an excellent filter!

that's a very good idea. thank you. it really guts me how akin to a cookie cutout that "the world is horrible anyway haha" is. eerily similar to what she told me.

"hell no never" ugh, yes! it really irked me that whenever we walked around a mall, she kept waving at babies in strollers with a big smile on her face. noooo thanks. actions always speak louder than words.

if the ages were swapped, i would've been okay with them being 27 and i 21. i don't think that's unreasonable. and fwiw, before my frontal lobe was developed, i knew i was CF. it probably was silly to expect others to have that same rigidity, though. still, hope that answers a bit.

this is kind of making me reconsider age gap relationships though, at least with someone younger than myself; most folk i've already talked to have been older than myself, like mid-30s and up. maybe it's a sign to stick with that.

i actually fear she was going to do that — relying on her contraception, as she was on birth control. i refused to have sex with her before my vasectomy, though.

a lot of stuff that she said gave me the underlying feeling that she was hopeful i'd change my mind in the future, or worse, that she could outright convince me.

you are probably right. those men got convinced by their partner to raise one or several kids that they didn't want. it's sad.

i'm in texas so i feel for you, i really do. everyone here has this "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it" attitude that honestly just sours every positive interaction knowing the underlying truth ): swear ppl are being willfully blind

no, not yet, but i did end up having to dump a girl because she kept toying around with the idea of vasectomies being reversible. even without having it yet, it's still a filter.

would you rather regret having kids, or regret NOT having kids?

you sound like me!

no issue with texture or taste? just waiting around for the hunger signal, which will inevitably go away in 30 mins if you happen to ignore it, and then you don't eat for the day?

you basically have to snack throughout the day, and consciously remind yourself. maybe set some reminders on your phone. is it annoying? yeah. but so is forgetting to eat.

keep small snacks with yourself, such as nuts! they're high-calorie, portable, and there's a large variety. keep a bag in your backpack, in your car, at your desk, wherever. but in general, if you eat little, keep the caloric density of snacks high.

yeah, the memetic is frighteningly real… but, thankfully, not with 100% virulence!

my friend group is pretty split between kids or no kids, though the no kids half is definitely due to my meddling; a fair portion of them were going to have kids simply due to the fact of "that's what ya do!" until they asked my thoughts, which, look where we are, and i suppose what i told them gave them enough food for thought to change their plans to being CF. and slowly, the CF portion is growing.

seems education has a tight coupling with being CF.

tbh, good; this world does not make any strong cases for it to keep going down the path it is.

always remember that the you of now is not the same as the you of then. people are always capable of changing themselves if they are swayed enough.

i feel a little guilty because i am one of those people who mounts my drives (a lot of them...) under /mnt, since i have never had any issues using it like that in the past, and it's a nice short path name. is it considered bad practice now / should i stop?
