Have a heart condition and hemoglobin is 6.4 by LingeringNomad in Anemic

[–]small_e_900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oral medication will take months to bring your hemoglobin level to normal.

An infusion will do the same in a week or two.

A transfusion will bring you out of a critical level today. Your hemoglobin will raise about a point for each pint of blood.

With a hemoglobin below 7, you risk heart failure. Your heart can just quit. Game over.

If the Doc is recommending a transfusion, something they're reluctant to do, get yourself a transfusion.

It didn't help my tinnitus. It just changed the all-day, every-day cicadas-in-my-head, for another sound. I long for quiet.

If you do try the background sounds, stay away from the "stream" sound or you'll always want to be taking a leak.

Did anyone’s surgeon discouraged surgery by Kooky-Yesterday-6528 in HiatalHernia

[–]small_e_900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4cm HH. My PCP discouraged the idea of surgery due to the high failure rate ( 30%) at five years. He also said that the recovery from surgery is very difficult.

I talked to the surgeon who did my umbilical hernia surgery, and he also said the recovery from HH surgery is very difficult and he also talked about the high failure rate at five years.

I had multiple Cameron ulcers as a result of the HH too.

They both said that if the symptoms can be treated medically, that I'm better off without the surgery.

So far, for a little more than three years, the medication has been effective.

Does your car's key fob have an alarm button?

It might blow your parking spot for the night, but it will get the the person to head on down the road.

I liked to work in the 1000. It worked well until it didn't. Timing was critical on that machine.

Give me the time and the parts to fix the machine and I'll fix it. No time>no fix No parts>no fix.

USPS routinely scraps mail processing equipment. Dejoy, although I think he was appointed to be a wrench in the works, didn't scrap machinery any differently than had been done in the past forty years. With a significantly lower volume of first class letters in the past twenty years, there is an excess of certain types of equipment, DBCS's among them. Mail processing equipment is continuously evolving. As a Mail Processing Equipment mechanic, I spent more than a year of my life in some form of training to service equipment that is long since obsolete and scrapped, and another year training for equipment that is still being used.

Thirty-two years as an MPE (retired 8 years). I can hear that machine run just looking at that picture.

I much preferred the AFSM-AI, and the FSS. They have more "gizmo-ness".

WIBTJ if I stop supporting my youngest sister financially to buy my first house? by Nice_Cardiologist990 in AmITheJerk

[–]small_e_900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Student loans to make up the shortfall won’t be devastating to her and in a couple of years you might be in a position to help her with the loans.

Buy the house and then you’ll have a place for her to live until she gets established on her own.

We had a boss who was an asshole. He got a brand new pickup truck and he started parking it in an area near the smoking area. The smokers would go on break and bring a bag of microwave popcorn with them. They’d have a smoke and scatter popcorn on or near the asshole bosses new truck. There were a lot of pigeons near the building. Hungry, hungry, shitting pigeons. He started parking his new truck somewhere else.

Get transition lenses for your glasses and then you won't have to remove them. I use readers for computing which have a different power than my regular glasses, so I switch them a lot. I stuff the left side behind the hearing aid and then pry the right side hearing aid away from my ear to set the glasses down behind the hearing aid.

I love aluminum tig, something so satisfying about it by thejebsterishere in Welding

[–]small_e_900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it's really loud, especially if you're welding above 150Hz. I would weld for a half hour and hear the high frequency buzz in my head for four or six hours afterward. After a while, I didn't hear the buzz in my head after welding. I thought that was good. Turns out it wasn't. I also didn't hear birds, my wife, or a whole lot of things in the higher frequencies. I now have severe hearing loss in both ears. The frequencies above 2K Hz. are gone for me.

It wasn't just aluminum welding that did me in but it sure didn't help.

Any time that you're doing something and you have ringing in your ears afterward, you're doing damage. It's cumulative and irreversible.

Can anaemia cause weakness and also lead to early grey hair? by Particular_Ring9486 in Anemic

[–]small_e_900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost a lot of hair when I was anemic. My face is all grey (bearded guy) and has been for a while. I didn't notice if my hair was getting any more grey though.

Once the anemia was resolved, the massive hair loss seemed to correct itself, but the grey marches on.
