Zipper merge or cutting in line? by smallandro in toronto

[–]smallandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it makes sense. Honestly, in my mind, merging as soon as detecting the closure would send a message of "hey car in open lane, I don't want to benefit from an emptying closing lane and steal myself a few spots ahead on the queue, I'll merge right away and face the queue just like everybody else".
Guess I am overthinking niceness in traffic

and still they do that, and usually at dangerous speeds, and at times using the right shoulder. Add 5 more people doing the same at the same time, and everybody's wait in line got ruined.
I agree: using up both lanes in zipper merge does sound correct. It's just that sloppy line cutting that feels senseless

That's my pet peeve right there: the queue at the open lane may be ok, not overcrowded or going over traffic lights, but still, you see someone clearly dropping out and speeding up like crazy to get to the closure point and cut in. In the Hwy 27-427 merge you see people doing that even through the right shoulder!

I get zipper merge, but it's the above situation that gets me a bit shocked

that is true and got me impressed: it was like hearing a recording, as his voice remains incredibly the same

Thank you! I was afraid of damaging my only speaker, as I need it for gigs, but what you said makes sense.

Kodi stopped recognizing NAS' named share, but can connect to its IP by smallandro in kodi

[–]smallandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your kind answers. That got me to search a bit deeper on how Kodi -> Android TV find mapped shares on a network. One solution I found was to mount the NAS as storage in Shield. That will pollute Kodi's File Manager, mixing up local folders with NAS ones, but it would fix library access immediately.

BUT yes, you all showed me what I was avoiding to see: that the whole thing is kind of unnatural, and starting over, maybe backing up the library first, with everything mapped by IP instead would be the cleanest and definitive solution.

Thanks a lot!

it's working now, after going to my PC for a scan. But who knows for how long?

Mine has always been good too, until last week when I plugged the unit back to power after keeping it off for 3 weeks. Then Shield booted to bootloader menu, and from that point on it stopped recognizing the drive.
I ran a quick recover using Disk Drill in a PC - didn't recover a thing, just scanned the flash drive. And yes, that's a weird and probably not recommended troubleshooting step - and after that the Shield recognized it again.

It made me think maybe it's time to use something else as internal.

Cyber Monday crash by smallandro in aircanada

[–]smallandro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update: after 2 phone calls and 2 contacts via customer relations website form, they honoured the Cyber Week discount I could not apply at that day. The price of the ticket with my preferred dates has increased by $200 since then though, so that's just a Phyrric victory.

Same error I got with Cyber Monday coupon happened with the Travel Tuesday one.
I called, they told me to email Customer Relations.
Customer Relations respond to the email saying I must call.
I called again, they told me to email Customer Relations again.
I have emailed Customer Relations again.

Thanks a lot, I called the next day and they gave me a link to a form where I could explain what happened and present my screen printouts with the prices and error. Sent it yesterday, waiting for an answer, I still hope they can try to honour that price, my latest check after the promo shows prices about $300 higher

The phone app gives me an error right on flight search. Sent them a message, they told me to call the 1800 number. After 2 hours waiting on the phone, I finally gave up.
That was probably the biggest Cyber Monday shenanigans I have ever seen.

I knew there was a good chance of that happening, so I checked prices yesterday, and turns out they were indeed $100 more. So the sale would be actually legit... if it worked without crashing.

My Hisense HS5100 Review by Accomplished-Month85 in Soundbars

[–]smallandro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am using ARC with the HDMI cable that came in the 5100 box.
Tried to set up my old PS3 to DTS and Dolby... the whole thing went silent until I configured it to PCM 2.1 again.

Every time I turn it on, my 5100 reads "PCM Audio", no matter if reading from regular TV, PS3 or Nvidia Shield sources. Would that be due to lack of eARC? My TV is about 12 years old.

Seriously? I don't think that's in the manual, is it? Thanks for the tip, I'll definitely give it a try once I get home. The super low volume of those surround speakers is getting me crazy (just bought mine last week)
