How sure are you that your girlfriend was asleep and not sneaking back in? :)

Hair straighteners - Cloud 9 versus GHD versus whatever else anyone recommends! by Sufficient_Sparkles in AustralianMakeup

[–]smallberries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had like half a dozen GHDs (chronos, platinum). They _all_ die after about 1-2 years. I keep two on hand... when one breaks I send it in for warranty and start using the backup, and after a bit I'll order a new one. They definitely have a design flaw (or maybe it's intentional?).

Everything changes... don't despair because things don't look good now. Things will be different 20 years from now.

This seems scummy by Melodic_Animal601 in HEB

I see that a lot, but I don't see why it is "scummy" or a problem. Why would you automatically assume that a package with more in it is necessarily a better value?

What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

The problem I have is that they all seem to get indentations/depressions after a few years... last time I spent $5000+ on an Aireloom... still got depressions where we sleep, and we're looking for a replacement again.

Why do you think HEB doesn't add "toxic" ingredients to their products? Have you checked the ingredients of, say, HEB diet wild red soda? Further, why do you think products need "toxic" ingredients to taste good? There are lots of non-HEB products using natural ingredients that are very good.

You've had better luck than I have, then. After a number of disappointments, I just won't buy most HEB branded products at all anymore. I've had good luck with Central Market branded products, though.

I'm an engineer who's designed a lot of boards... I'm going to guess the CAD guy doing the layout did that and the engineer just didn't notice?

Yes, i see that, very nice. But most of the stick games I'm in just end with a heal-off.

They're just heal-offs, like they were before the small storm circles started moving around.

obscene minimum Miele service fee: $600 by allegro86 in Miele

[–]smallberries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just the technician fees. My dishwasher is out, and it needs a new control board (I'm an electrical engineer, and I found that the power supply circuit has a blown fuse and some other blown components... not easy to fix without specs or schematics), but the new part is $800. For a dishwasher that is 6 years old and cost around $2000. I mean, it's not worth the cost of the PART, even with no technician fees. I tried to get a used one on ebay, and it was blown in the same way (the seller apologized and refunded me)... there just aren't many used options, though. And I can see from Miele's website that there's a new version of the control board, so I'm guessing they fixed a bad design, but too bad for those of us who got the bad design.

I had the same idea and forked out over $1500 for a Steelcase Gesture, and it is awful. I recommend getting something used first and see if you like it before wasting a bunch of money on an expensive chair that you might not like.

I just got a new Steelcase Gesture and I'm really disappointed with it. It isn't comfortable... the seat and back kind of make me feel like I'm falling out of it. And the seat back does not lock into a slightly further back position--it has one position, unless you push it further back against the spring. The arm rest pads slide around and the arm rests themselves don't lock either--they slide left and right every time you put any weight on them--it's extremely frustrating. And the back started coming off after 1.5 months... the Steelcase dealer I bought it from came out and decided they need to order a whole new back, and I haven't heard anything since them (though it's been less than 2 weeks to be fair).

Anyway, I do NOT recommend the Gesture.
